How to unlock the Take Back the Future achievement in Persona 5 Royal - Definitive Guide

Just wanted to post this here so people don't miss the one missable palace.

Persona 5 Royal: How to unlock the missable final Palace

TL;DR MISSABLE!
Level up the counselor confident to rank 9 before November 18th or you'll miss this and the "Awakening the Phantom Thieves" achievements which means replaying the entire game.

I messed up as I didn't know there were any missable achievements and don't have any saves that go back far enough.

So glad I 100% this game on ps when it released because I completed this not even thinking about it. Would have sucked doing another play through for one achievement. Great guide to share! 🙏

Despite completing the entire game and obtaining all other 51 achievements, this achievement did not become unlocked for me. So frustrating.

I would summarize for the final boss in terms of prep and battle strategy:

Use Joker's Persona as one with no weaknesses to Physical, Nuclear, or Bless attacks, at the very least. If they can Nullify, Repel or Drain any of the types, use them.

The final boss' Personas and Tentacles do most of the work for attacks and spells, the boss itself uses Regeneration to revive all defeated Tentacles every turn.

Ann, Ryuji, Akechi, Haru, and Makoto both have all-foe attacks with the element they can block damage from enemies as it concerns to Repels.

First Persona boss comes in two phases, the latter phase is when the final boss begins issuing restrictions on actions for the player, starting with a ban on magic attacks, then in semi-random order bans on physical attacks+Baton Passes, healing spells+items, guarding, and item+support skill use.

Once first Persona boss is defeated, a stronger second form will follow, with heightened defense to greatly reduce attack damage until using the Revitalizing Soul healing spell. After that it'll take damage normally. You'll technically beat the game after beating this second form, but you'll first need to go through the second and final phase with it where you'll win no matter what actions you take. Both phases they'll use an all-foe attack strong enough to wipe out your party, but they'll always endure the first time. For the first phase it's Grand Palm and for the second phase it's Full Force. Your battle will end in victory after the second use of the latter.

For this achievement you need to complete every palace in the game (Kamoshida's, Madarame's, Kaneshiro's, Futaba's, Okumaru's, Sae's, Shido's, Mementos Depths, and Maruki's). You will earn this achievement on 2/3 after you beat Maruki.

Story related and can not be missed.

Note: This requires completing the Laboratory Palace, which can be missable if you do not follow the path to the true ending (refer to The Path Chosen (60G)).

*MISSABLE*

This new trophy involves completing Royal’s brand-new Laboratory Palace. it is on the path to the new Royal true ending, so while it is connected to the story, it can be missed if you do not meet the requirements of that ending. See The Path Chosen for those requirements. The deadline is described in-game as 2/3, which is the actual deadline unlike the other palaces due to the fact that the protagonist will send the calling card in a mandatory story scene if the treasure has been reached by that date.

The Palace is also unique in that there are several infiltrations with different, story-related objectives leading up to the main infiltration.

10/3: This is the first glimpse of the palace, taking place during the Spaceport Palace. Notably, if you send the Spaceport Palace's owner's calling card on 10/2, which causes you to enter his palace on 10/3, then this first glimpse of the new Palace will be deferred to 10/4. Either way, it cannot be missed.

1/3: This is the first main infiltration. After progressing through a number of rooms, you will encounter a boss and then must spend the next seven days speaking to your Phantom Thieves party members, one per day. It is the only way to spend free time on those days, and the thieves can be done in any order:

  • Ann Takamaki. Locate Ann in the underground mall in Shibuya.
  • Haru Okumura. Locate Haru near the Penguin Sniper in Kichijoji.
  • Ryuji Sakamoto. Locate Ryuji outside the school in Aoyama-Itchome.
  • Makoto Niijima. Locate Makoto in the underground rail station in Shibuya.
  • Yusuke Kitagawa. Locate Yusuke in the art gallery in Ueno.
  • Futaba Sakura. Locate Futaba outside the electronics store in Akihabara.

1/9: You will be forced to enter the Palace again after speaking to the above party members. You will continue until you meet another boss, and some story scenes later you will be instructed to enter Mementos and complete Royal’s new Path, the Path of Da’at.
1/10 onward: Enter Mementos and complete the Path of Da’at. It is 16 floors long.
1/11 onward (after finishing Path of Da’at): You can finally enter the palace for the main infiltration. There is now nothing stopping you from reaching the treasure from here.

The trophy will unlock in the scenes following the dungeon's deadline.
