How to unlock the Technician achievement in Persona 5 Royal - Definitive Guide

Simple enough to get as long as you can get an ailment on an enemy, I ended up getting this in the first palace when I was going for the will seeds, the third will seed to be exact.

You can get there from the Central Tower safe room: exit and circle the room until you find the elevator to the south of the area.

Take the elevator downstairs. Head south and go through Kamoshida’s painting. Then head west to a room up a small flight of stairs.

The switch here activates the elevator. Head back through the painting and down the west elevator to a new area. Defeat the shadow here.

This is where I got the achievement, use Ryuji’s Zio spell to electrocute it, then follow up with a bullet for a Technical to get a Hold Up.

Easy easy.

If for some reason this doesn't trigger, a couple of the glowing, red enemies that roam through the Castle, like when you're getting the eyes for the guillotine puzzle near the top of the castle tower is another place where I got Technicals to trigger as well.

A technical attack occurs after you inflict a status ailment on an enemy, then follow it up with an attack of a matching type that causes bonus damage, which in most cases is a physical attack for the bonus damage. Below is the full list of pairs.

  • Brainwash - Physical
  • Confuse - Wind, Nuclear
  • Despair - Physical
  • Dizzy - Physical
  • Fear - Physical
  • Freeze - Physical, Nuclear
  • Shock - Physical, Nuclear
  • Sleep - Physical
  • Rage - Physical

*MISSABLE*

Technicals are a new battle mechanic in Royal. Simply, the mechanic allows bonus damage and criticals from matching ailments to other elemental moves. It's more broad than just regular elemental damage in that you can effectively give a temporary weakness to an element to shadows that would normally be damaged normally, or resist that type of damage.

Ailments are status effects inflicted by many moves, for example Fire spells are able to rarely inflict the Burn ailment.

This trophy involves following up an ailment inflicted onto an enemy by using a skill that would generate a technical damage on it. For example, using an Electric skill on an enemy may cause it to get the Shock status condition. Using a physical move after this will generate an increased amount of damage, as physical is matched as a technical to Shock status.

Probably the earliest and easiest way to do this is with your starting party members, Ann and Morgana. Use Ann's fire skills on an enemy to give it the Burn status condition, then follow up with Morgana's Wind skills to generate the technical damage. Below is a full list of Technicals and a video demonstrating it in action.

The trophy will unlock as soon as you generate Technical damage for the first time.

  • Brainwash, inflicted by Brain Buster, Brain Jack, Brain Shake and Marin Karin. Follow up with Physical.
  • Burn, inflicted by Fire skills. Follow up with Wind or Nuclear
  • Confuse, inflicted by Mind Slice, Pulinpa, Skull Cracker and Tentarafoo. Follow up with Physical.
  • Despair, inflicted by Abysmal Surge, Bad Beat, Dreadful Scream, Negative Pile and Ominous Words. Also, the flu days on 13/11, 14/11, 15/11, 12/8 and 12/9 automatically afflict enemies with this. Follow up with Physical.
  • Dizzy, inflicted by Dazzler, Flash Bomb, Nocturnal Flash and Sledgehammer. Follow up with any attack.
  • Fear, inflicted by Bloodbath, Evil Smile, Evil Touch, Terror Claw, Titanomachia, Tyrant's Fist. Follow up with Physical.
  • Freeze, inflicted by Ice skills. Follow up with Physical or Nuclear
  • Shock, inflicted by Electric skills. Follow up with Physical or Nuclear. Note Melee attacks will paralyze that party member due to static shock, so refrain from this and use the Persona's physical skills instead.
  • Sleep, inflicted by Dormina, Dormin Rush, Dream Needle and Lullaby. Follow up with any attack.
  • Rage, inflicted by Arm of Destruction, Hysterical Slap, Oni-Kagura, Reverse Rub, Taunt and Wage War. Follow up with Physical.
