How to unlock the The Search for Power achievement in Persona 5 Royal - Definitive Guide

This achievement is obtained in Mementos when you max out one of the Cognition buffs by exchanging stamps with Jose. The fastest way to earn this achievement is to exchange your stamps for the Item Rewards Up as it takes the least amount of stamps to max (30). There will almost always be a stamp that spawns when you enter a new level so if you’ve explored all the levels but haven’t found all the stamps just keep going back and forth between two levels. It popped for me right after I exchanged all my stamps found in the Path of Kaitul (20/20) after already exchanging the ones I found in the previous paths (Qimranut 2/2, Aiyatsbus 8/8, and Chemdah 10/10).

You can also just reset stamps used using flowers to get this easily when you’re near end game

even I max out all cognition, but the achievement not showing up. Has anyone have a same problem ? Is it a bug ?

Stamps are another type of collectible that will show up after meeting Jose in Mementos. These are stands that can be found at the exit of each floor, and sometimes also behind random garage doors or breakable walls. Be sure to search each floor carefully to get as many as possiblle. You will need a minimum of 30 Stamps to change a "cognition" of Mementos, which basically means you have maxed out the bonus from one of three categories. The total stamps for each are as follows:
 
  • Increased XP: 84 Stamps
  • Increased Money: 50 Stamps
  • Increased Items: 30 Stamps

Stamps are a new collectible item in Mementos in Persona 5 Royal. They appear as items collectable from Stamp Machines, stationed throughout Mementos. At least one is available on every floor and every path of Mementos except for the very first starting area and the Path of Iweleth. They glow with a bright yellow light and appear on maps as an equally bright yellow icon, so they're difficult to miss against the dark background of Mementos.

Their locations are a mix of fixed and random. A stamp machine is present just before the exit for every floor, as well as in safe areas and end areas. Stamp machines also somewhat rarely appear hidden behind walls or doors.

Once collected, these stamps can be traded to Jose in exchange for "cognition changes", which give buffs to Mementos permanently, in the categories of increased EXP, money and items. When you have a sufficient amount of stamps, you must enter an area of Mementos in which Jose is running his shop. This is clearly indicated by a cutscene that will play after entering a floor, showing Jose racing down the Mementos tracks in his buggy. Once you've entered a floor with Jose on it, locate him. Even If the map is not uncovered for his location, it will still show his whereabouts with a bright yellow icon.

Unlocking The Phantom Philatelist involves trading stamps to Jose for the first time. 

Unlocking this trophy, however, involves maximizing one category of cognitive change by spending the amount of stamps required to fully unlock all of the changes. Contrary to the trophy's description, you do not have to maximize all three categories as just one will unlock the trophy.

Each Path of Mementos has a different number of stamps to collect. Once the assigned number of stamps has been reached for a Path of Mementos, no more can be collected for that Path. Pressing the map button will allow you to view the total number of findable stamp stations for that Path of Mementos and how many you've collected so far. Otherwise, the locations are procedurally generated, so there is no guide for locations for this one.

Below is a list of each Path and the number of stamps that can be obtained in them.

  • Path of Qimranut: 2 Stamps
  • Path of Aiyatsbus: 8 Stamps
  • Path of Chemdah: 10 Stamps
  • Path of Kaitul: 20 Stamps
  • Path of Akzeriyyuth: 25 Stamps
  • Path of Adyeshach: 30 Stamps
  • Path of Sheriruth: 30 Stamps
  • Path of Iweleth: 0 Stamps
  • Path of Da'at: 40 Stamps

After collecting at least one stamp, locate Jose in a mementos level. You'll know he's present on a floor when you arrive and the cutscene of Jose in his car plays. Select "Change Mementos" and pick any in this list. If you are only concerned with this trophy and no other changes, then the third option, which increases item drops, is recommended as it is the cheapest at 30 stamps total. The earliest you can get this trophy is the Path of Kaitul, which means it'll be after the end of the Pyramid Palace before this trophy is attainable.

The cost in stamps for each upgrade to the cognitive changes are as follows:

  • EXP Up: 5, 5, 7, 7, 9, 9, 10, 10, 11, 11
  • Money Up: 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7
  • Item Drops Up: 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5
