How to unlock the Unsurpassed Rebel achievement in Persona 5 Royal - Definitive Guide

Once you unlock Mementos the Reaper becomes accessible. He jumps your squad after being afk for about 2 minutes in any Memento area that isn't a saferoom, entrance or first floor. Probably doesn't show up in the instanced quest rooms either.

He CANNOT be cheesed like in vanilla Persona 5 during the flu season using despair, you have to beat him mechanically now. Well you can still cheese him.

Mild Spoilers below:

The secondhand shop near your house will eventually sell a broken laptop. Get parts to repair it at Akihabara and then you will be able to access a Black Market website. This site sells different element Magatanas that deal 150 damage. Buy a couple sets of those with the money you earned through natural gameplay and continue the game until your squad is around level 50 and you're in the middle of the CASINO palace. This way your team has enough HP to survive one hit from the Reaper.

The Reaper has insane defense and even your strongest attacks with buffs are only gonna deal 100 damage or so. But now that you have those Magatana items just blitz the Reaper with flat 150 damage using some of the turns to full heal your team either with items or a squad member with party heal. Easy kill did it first try. Good luck, hope this helps.

It's also possible for the Reaper to spawn immediately upon entering an area, though it's very rare.

For those who don't care about difficulty, an easy way to beat him is to put the difficulty on "Safe" because you cannot get a game over and you can keep retrying if a party member dies, so keep attacking the Reaper until you eventually kill it. Please note that once you set the difficulty to "Safe", you cannot change it and are locked to it for the rest of your playthrough.

@Tommy couldn't you set it to safe, get the achievement, then load a previous save?

One trick to make the Reaper easier is to let it ambush you. When it ambushes you it only does 1 action per turn. And since you're in a "surrounded" state you're able to use Thermopylae to buff your party. The only downside is you can't switch out party members if surrounded so make sure you have your preferred party set up ahead of time.

@thatNoseyParker I think so, but I'm not sure. You may want to try creating another save slot as a backup before fighting the Reaper just to be safe.

I'd like to include another detail worth mentioning: If possible wait until after 9/17 to try this. By that point Morgana will hit rank 8 and will have Endure. It should be trivial to get him Mediarama and put him to work as the team healer.

Honestly, to make this a lot easier. Wait until the 3rd semester as you will be significantly higher level and makes this a lot easier. My showtime ability with Joker and Akechi did around 2300 damage in the fight, which was like 80% of the Reaper's health and each character was able to deal around 100 damage with their Persona attacks.

I did it at level 25 I just used the level 89 persona that's free and then had the other 3 party members healing/buffing joker the entire time. Boosted me right to level 45 aswell

The trick about letting it ambush you works, just be aware you can't switch party members if you were ambushed.

My team was (level 48-ish):

Me (Debilitate + Charge + Severe Phys Attack)
Morgana (healer + items)
Makoto (healer)
Ann (concentrate + Fire)

Always have Tetrakajan Shields UP, if not you are risking your luck due to a one-shot kill Hamaon or Mamudon from The Reaper.

Good LUCK!

Is this achievement bugged? I've beaten the Reaper twice and haven't gotten it yet. It worked fine on the PS4, so I'm not sure why it's not working here.

can confirm it can be done on safe difficulty and then loading a previous state to resume the game on your chosen difficulty.

Kudos to the guy with the magatama techniques it's by far the fastest way to finish the fight, just spam them and hope for showtime attacks.

FYI: I had to use 30 Magmatas and one Showtime to defeat it on lvl 92.

I had shinya’s confidant at level 6 where I have cheap shot. I did all 3 and a showtime while decreasing his stats and I don’t think I could have killed him any quicker based on cheap shot and the showtime alone. In context I’m level 96

It seems like this achievement cannot be earned during the Third Semester. You have to defeat the Reaper before the Third Semester begins for it to unlock the achievement.

I found the easiest easy to do this in any sort of fashionable time is to have party members at 50, enter mementos, save, then change your difficulty to safety, wait for the reaper to ambush you, then spam as many powerful attacks as possible, you fully regain HP and SP if you die during battle, so don’t even bother healing, if you don’t mind the small reanimating cutscenes, then once he’s beaten, quit the game out and load that save with your original difficulty back up, you’ll have the achievement but not the levels from beating The Reaper! I used Mona, Panther, Skull, and Joker and did it in like 5-10 minutes on NG+, but even in NG with not as strong weapons, it’s impossible to lose this on safety, so just attack away.

I have this achievement on PS4, so let me share my strategy:

1: reach level 65+
2: get Heat Riser's skill card from using the Electric Chair on Magatsu Izanagi Picaro.
3: get Thermopylae's skill card from the request "Man of Many Faces and Debts," unlocked by leveling Moon up to Rank 8.
4: summon Izanagi-no-Okami (not Picaro, as base Izanagi-no-Okami has greater potential for stat gains via Gallows sacrifice during a Fusion Alarm)
5: give Heat Riser and Thermopylae to Izanagi-no-Okami
6: enter Mementos with Noir (at least lv44, has to know Makarakarn), Crow (at lv70, has to know Debilitate), and a third member of your choosing (I picked Violet, but you can use anyone here.)
7: AFK in mementos while driving Morgana. Eventually, the Reaper will spawn. (Note that the Reaper's spawn time won't fluctuate based on what floor youre on, unlike P3, so you can use Chariot's Rank 7 ability to grind XP while you're waiting on the Reaper to spawn.)
8: LET HIM AMBUSH YOU
9: have Joker use Thermopylae first, then Heat Riser on his next turn. Have Crow use Debilitate, and have Noir use Makarakarn. Attack with your fourth member.
10: Once Joker's used both Thermopylae and Heat Riser, have him use Myriad Truths.
11: Repeat step 9 until the Reaper's dead.
12: Achievement popped!

*MISSABLE*

The Reaper is a super-boss that will appear on any floor of Mementos if you sit in the Morgana bus for a total of two minutes without moving. It is recommended that you be around Level 60+ if you plan to fight it for real on the lower difficulties, and increase by 10 Levels for each difficulty you raise the game. However, if you are playing on Safe mode, you can do this the first time you arrive in Mementos and just keep resurrecting your characters when you die. It will take a long time, but you will succeed eventually and gain about 20-30 levels for your trouble, depending on when you do it. Just keep using physical attacks on Safe mode, while Showtime attacks when they appear will be the bulk of your damage.

A legit version of the fight can be seen below. Use buffs on your party couples with your strongest physical attacks. He has no weaknesses and can not be hit with status effects, so it's literally just a boxing match.

*MISSABLE*

The Reaper is a stunningly-difficult optional boss that appears to attack the player's party whenever they stay on a floor of Mementos for too long. It will appear if the player stays stationary in the Morgana car for two minutes or more in an area of Mementos. This includes the bits next to the escalators leading up and down in areas of Mementos, though he won't enter that area and will just camp outside until the player engages him.

This trophy involves defeating the Reaper for the first time.

Notably, the Reaper has access to every element of attack and resists every element as well. Because of this, you'll need to sufficiently prepare. Due to the Reaper's range of attacks, you may benefit from just bringing Joker with an appropriate Persona, as this will avoid the Reaper gaining additional moves from landing critical hits or weaknesses. The Tower Arcana Persona Yoshitsune is ideal for this, as it blocks physical attacks and can learn "Resist X" for every element of attack.

Alternatively, you can use Safe difficulty as a way of bypassing the risk associated with encountering him, as you'll be able to revive the protagonist and party any time the player faints from battle. Basically, you can just enter the battle with the Reaper and press  to enter rush mode, which will speed up the flow of battle and spam physical attacks until he dies.

For players returning from Persona 5, the flu days in November and December no longer work for the Reaper. The Reaper is now immune to all status effects (including Despair), so you'll have to defeat him the legitimate way. The Reaper does not appear in safe areas with good reason, and also does not appear in end areas in Mementos Paths as there isn't enough space to spawn him.

The trophy will unlock as soon as you beat him for the first time.
