Phantasy Star Universe

This achievement is earned at the end of Chapter 5 of the single-player story mode.

Defeating the Onmagoug is a lot like beating the De Ragan; many of the same tips apply here.


1. By the time you go on this mission, you should have replaced a good portion of your weapons/armor with two- or three-star items (or better if you can find/make them).

2. Stock up on Star Atomizers or have a wand/rod with a healing spell handy. Try to keep your teammates alive. You'll earn more points for this mission that way, and if you get a perfect score, you get a bonus reward.

3. Arm yourself with at least three guns or other ranged weapons (handgun, rifle, bow, crossbow). Link the ICE element photon art to each one. Like the De Ragan, the Onmagoug is a fire-type creature, so ice-based attacks will do more damage to it.

4. Free Missions are your friend. Run through a few of them; gain a couple levels and improve your photon arts, and buy the gear and items you'll need. Try to "ace" some of them; you may get nice rewards.

Just before you face him, Karen will faint and Maya will stay behind with her, so it'll be you and Hyuga without them. When you enter the nest, first you'll face off against three Tengohgs, flying fire-type creatures. They're pretty easy if you're prepared. Once they're dead, the Onmagoug appears, and Maya rejoins you.

5. Aim. Just like the De Ragan, the Onmagoug has a weak spot, but for this guy, it's his wings, not his head. When you have a gun equipped, clicking the right stick brings up a first-person aiming mode, allowing you to aim vertically as well as horizontally. This lets you aim up to hit him when he's flying, and he does prefer to stay airborne. You can't move while you're aiming, so be ready to hit B or click the right stick again to exit this mode quickly. Hit his wings a few times and they'll be shredded, and the Onmagoug will crash to the ground and be stunned for a few seconds, giving you a good chance to wallop him with any weapon. Bear in mind, though, that even on the ground, his wings are still vulnerable. After his stun ends, his wings will heal and he'll be able to fly again.

6. Avoid getting hit. The Onmagoug telegraphs nearly every attack he makes, and you can learn to anticipate his moves to avoid taking damage. He'll throw several small fireballs in a spread pattern, which you can avoid by running. Another of his favorite tricks is to fly away, then come back with two huge boulders, which he'll throw at you. You can dodge these too, if you watch for them. When he's on the ground, he'll swipe at you with his arms.

Remember, the faster you kill him, the more points you'll get, so before facing off against the Onmagoug, make sure your weapons are all fully charged. Immediately before the Onmagoug nest is a spot where you can rest and save. Take advantage of this.
