How to unlock the Didn't See That Coming achievement in Phantom Breaker: Omnia - Definitive Guide
If you’re using the default controls, hold the A button down and your character will charge up a devastating slash/slam. You need your enemy to do the exact same move at the same time but yours needs to connect first.
That’s a Cross Counter Burst!
The easiest way to get this out of the way is by popping into a 1P vs. 2P and using two controllers. Hold A on both and nab that achievement.

Phantom Breaker introduces a unique mechanic known as the Counter Burst. This allows players to withstand any attack(s) from their opponents as they unleash a powerful attack to send them away and create distance between the two.
To use a Counter Burst, you will need to press while standing still, you can also hold the button down to unleash a stronger Counter Burst that can result in the opponent being sent to the other side of the stage away from the player before causing a wall bounce (It should be noted that for some characters like Waka, this isn't the case). While this is held, it will also clash with an opponent's attacks while guarding the player from them.
Additionally, any standard attacks that the opponent will do against the player while they're using Counter Burst will result in them being reflected if the Burst starts as soon as it makes contact with the opponent's attack. The timing for this is really strict, though, so be sure to practice it each time you put it to good use. However, if the opponent does a Counter Burst before the player counteracts it with their own, this will result in a Cross Counter Burst.
When the Tension Gauge becomes full, a stronger Counter Burst known as a Critical Burst will be triggered, more information on that can be found in With All My Strength .
This trophy will be unlocked upon triggering a Cross Counter Burst for the first time, you should also stack this with Counter Burst! if you haven't unlocked it yet.
