This is for finishing a "Grand Tournament" event within the top 20% of the leaderboard. The top 10% rewards Diamond Cup and the top 11-20% awards Gold Cup. You can play in an event by navigating to the "Events" tab, locating one marked "Grand Tournament" (the Challenge ones don't award cups so won't count for this achievement), and playing the listed table from this Events menu. Each event lists how much time is remaining - so far, they've been 14 days long.
After the event ends you have to collect your cup manually; it won't be awarded automatically. Go back into the Events tab, and scroll down to the now-completed (grayed out) event. If you finished high enough to be awarded a cup, there will be a small red circle next to the event, indicating you can collect your award. Simply press A while the Event is highlighted to receive your award.
The first time you collect a Gold or Diamond cup, this achievement will unlock.

Also best to play the free table of it comes back for a grand tournament as the population of the leaderboard makes it much more manageable to place higher. The Addams Family board was a bit tougher and I placed higher on that.

I recommend doing this on a Zen table. The Williams Tables are very unforgiving, imo.

This is not hard like it looks.
To get diamond you need to finish an cup event in top 10% scorer position. And to get gold you need to finish between 11%-20%.
So to get the achievement you just need to play GRAND TOURNAMENT (other tournaments /challenges don't count!) in EVENTS tab and finish in top 20% best place! You can check the score tournament pressing A over it and pressing Y to see your current position in my score.
After the tournament finish, If yoeasyestu stay in the top 20% position, you just need to go over that tournament and CLAIM your reward (your gold or diamond trophy) pressing A button and the achievement gonna pop on your screen.
I got diamond throphy playing West Wild (free table) and I got gold throphy on The Addams Family Grand Tournament. It's important to say you can get this achievement in a paid table too, without need to pay for it! (I didn't bought any table in this game, I played with that free day season ticket).
I think the easyest table to do that is the Wild West free table. You can make easy 7.5000.000 point just hitting the 3 skill shots. First skill shot gives you 2.000.000, second gives 2.500.00 and the third gives you 3.000.000. You can easily get 8.000.000 to 11.000.000 points in the end of the match and reach the 20% top scorer position !! To make the skill shot on Wild West table is pretty easy you just need to launch the ball with maximum force and with the left trigger hit the left or right ramp on top right of the table. Note there are 3 ramps and the middle one don't count for the skill shot. Just pratice a little and you gonna do it easy!
The number of tries in cup events are random. In the first week we had unlimited attempts in the 2 grand tournament tables we're avaliable. This week the Wild West has only 3 attemps a day and the Snoopy table has 5 attemps a day. So I advise this week to pratice a little before trying do the cup events !

There's a way to check your progress. In events tab you press Y over the table you want to check the leaderboard. On the right side you will see your score position like an arrow (my score) showing you where you are. It shows diamond cup (10%), gold cup (11%-20%), silver cup (21%-50%) and bronze cup (51%-90%). Remember to get this achievement you need to stay in top 20% at the end of that tournament event.

Yes, only Grand Tournament events count for the Event Cups and as such the achievement.

In the events tab as part of the 6 events, there are always 2 Grand Tournaments underway - 1 free and 1 premium. To get this trophy, you will need to finish one of them in the top 20% on the leaderboard. You can see where your score stacks up by pressing
while the event is highlighted in the event menu. After the event is closed, you will have to navigate back to it to claim the trophy. Once this is done, your own trophy should pop.
