How to unlock the A Legend Returns achievement in Pinball FX2 - Definitive Guide

This achievement is a little finicky. You may have achieved what seemed like a textbook bang back and not popped the achievement. Exactly what it is the game didn't like is unclear, all I know is, precisely the way I did it (as shown in my attached video) seems to work.

Before watching the video, read the instructions:

1). I highly recommend you go into settings and switch nudge to the D-pad. It's got more punch.
2). Start "The Avengers" table.
3). Select Captain America's ball (it is selected by default).
4). Launch the ball as far as the bumpers.
5). Hold your left flipper up and wait.
6). The ball should come from the right, and go through the flippers onto the left outlane wall. Hopefully it will run up there an inch or two. (This seems to matter to the achievement). Wait for it to come back, and as it reaches the base of the left flipper, nudge up-right on the D-pad.

If done correctly, it will be nudge back into play and there's your b'doop. As you can see in my video, there is no need to flip it back into play as you normally would, you can just drain it. The achievement has already popped. Like I say though, it's finicky, so if you don't get it, keep trying! Mercifully, it's a quick one to do.

Good luck!

Lord Dirt, did you switch the nudge to the D-pad? The analog stick does not have enough nudge for this to work and that is where most people have the problem. The D-pad should work like a charm.

I finally got it after a few hours. I did switch it to the D Pad but it never seemed to have enough to put the ball back into play. Total luck it finally worked! Thanks for the guide.

It makes no sense. Well done for persevering.

The trick is to let it sit on the flipper after the bangback. If you try and hit it as soon as it makes it back onto the flipper it won't pop.

I've been playing this game since release and I just found out there a, in this case anyways, a "North East" ability of the d-pad. I'd have always used the four main directional directions, up, down, left, right. Thanks, got it third try.

I'll thank you here as well! Appreciate the detailed explanation here and on the Zen forums.

I'll note for the folks here two things:

1. The ball save doesn't matter - I got this achievement when it was activated.

2. Even if you bang it back successfully, it doesn't always pop. I had two prior bang backs with this exact method that didn't count.

They weren't as smooth as your video shows, and when it popped it looked more like your video, but hitting the bottom of the table, banging it back, and putting the ball into play isn't guaranteed to get the achievement. I'm guessing it has to do with the length of time in motion below the flippers, or rolling up onto the flippers a certain way (my prior two, I used the flippers to keep the ball in play).

So keep trying!
