How to unlock the Nine zeros achievement in Pinball FX3 - Definitive Guide

New Edit 12 Oct 2018

It appears that this achievement is actually possible by repeating the same table over and over. So in theory anyone can get it with enough time and patience. Thanks to multiple TA-ers for clarifying in the comments.

I will leave the old solution below for tips on high scoring tables.

______________________________________________________________

As of the new patch (13 Dec 2017) this achievement now requires you to score 1,000,000,000 points over MULTIPLE tables. These scores will need to be new scores (ie after the patch) to count towards the achievement [thanks to silent 3rd and Exe the Hero for clarifying].

I will leave the old solution below for reference (or if you want a quick method to get the points) but obviously this is now far easier. Thanks to MistaCelestial for confirmation of the change.

The following tables are recommended high scoring ones.

Marvel: Women Of Power - This should be your first stop for a big scoring table. Even without any kind of guide it's very generous indeed, but a helpful tip is to try for the Squirrel Girl Multiball as often as possible. A more thorough walkthrough is contained in the old solution below.

Sorcerer's Lair - The free table is an excellent source of points. If you can make it through to the wizard mode by attempting (you don't have to complete them) each table challenge, you'll be looking at a big score, as the final mode is very generous with points.

Epic Quest (recommended by x Mataeus x) - His full guide can be found in the comments, but suffice to say that this table tracks your level over multiple games, so after a few plays you'll be getting much bigger scores.

Feel free to add your recommendations in the comments and I'll update the solution! :-)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Old Solution

This achievement requires you to score over a billion points (1,000,000,000) on a single table in one attempt (three balls).

It's possible on any table, but you can make this achievement slightly easier by choosing the Champions table, which is part of the Marvel: Women Of Power pack. This is a very forgiving table, but more importantly a high scoring one.

The table guide (credit to ShoryukenToTheChin) can be found here.

https://blog.zenstudios.com/press/assets/table_guides/C....pdf

The trick to big high scores on this table is to boost your multiball power-up as much as possible. Then you'll be trying to perform the Squirrel Girl Multiball as often as you can. This is a big scoring mode where you'll be aiming to hit Jackpot ramps as quickly as you can. Once you hit one you'll get a short window to hit another for a Super Jackpot, and then another short window for a Double Super Jackpot. With your multiball special maxed out, you're looking at around 60 million points for a Double Super Jackpot, and you can get plenty of these per multiball activation.

Video of how to unlock the multiball mode:

Video showing multiball scoring:

If you accidentally start a different mode don't worry, it's all very generous and high scoring so you should hit 1BN without too much difficulty if you're half decent at pinball.

For those people who haven't bought any tables, it is possible (albeit far more difficult) to do this on the free table, Sorcerers Lair. I recommend using the combo time extending power-up, maxed out as much as possible. This makes performing combos more forgiving, and if you can pull off a 6-way combo you'll light the Extra Ball ramp at the top left of the table. Do this first on every ball and you should extend your game pretty significantly, although you'll probably be looking at three or four times through Wizard mode to get to a billion.

Ok so I have another reply from Zen have they have said.

I have an update from Zen I did ask then about mini golf as well just so understand the email. Here is what they said.
Hey Jonathan,
so sorry about that. Of course we are working on both games but the minigolf issue will take more time than the "Nine zeros" issue.
Please stay tuned for the updates!
Kind regards,
Gabor

The devs are the same devs for Infinite Minigolf and they just patched the two glitched achievements in that, so there is hope for this, but thanks for the solution, I am going to try the Women of Power table.

Can anyone share how this popped for them since the update? I have 850 mil on S.Liar, 377 mil on women of power. Have played a few other tables to add to the score across tables, but still nothing is popping, any ideas?

Are those old scores? It may be that you need to attain those scores again after the update.

For those who are really struggling, I recommend Epic Quest. Not only is it a brilliant table (easily my favourite), but it has permanent progression.

The more you do on the table, the higher you can level Max, the table's hero. This level is kept between games, and every time he levels up, the jackpot value is permanently increased.

I recommend doing three mill / forest quests, then going for "add ball, jackpot, jackpot" on the princess spinner. Then just repeatedly shoot the sword and shield ramps to collect the jackpots. Should you hit the cave or mill, you'll collect a super jackpot which is worth double the jackpot value. If you drain a ball, shoot the loot hole below the forest to add another ball, which you can only do a limited number of times.

By the time you've gotten Max to level 70 or so, you'll be earning that many points on the jackpots you'll not know what to do with them. I hit #9 globally on my third full play through of this table.

Note also that if you kill 15 bats, you can get and extra ball at the mill. If you kill 20 skeletons, same deal. These modes are activated by shooting the same sword and shield ramps as for the jackpots, which give you good practice for the multiball.

Is this across multiple attempts, or is is for 3 balls in one round? Sorcerers Lair is the only table I seem to be any good at.

One attempt. Sorry, I'll try to make that a bit clearer in the guide. I've managed over a billion on Sorcerer's Lair on Pinball FX2, so it is possible. Much harder than on Champions though.

EDIT - Actually, you know what, I don't actually know for sure. I know it doesn't pop when you score 1BN over multiple tables, but I'm not sure about playing the same table over and over. I got 790m and 1.1BN on Champions and it popped the second time, so I guess technically it could be over multiple games. Would be nice to get confirmation if anyone fancies trying it out.

It must be on 1 table cause I would be well over 1 billion already.
Hal Solo - 475,000,000
Droids - 236,000,000
Hulk - 222,000,000
Spiderman - 198,000,000
Plus a bunch of other tables.

Yeah, I mentioned multiple tables don't work, we're just not sure if repeated scores on the same table count. If there's any chance you could rule that out for us that would help. smile

Repeated table doesn't work. I've posted a score of 284mil, 377mil, and then 450mil all on the base table. No achievement.

I am a little bit confused, because the achievement shows a clear rate of 79.24 % at the moment on my xbox:

https://i.imgur.com/Ngpvkcx.png (Screenshot is in German, but you should see my point).

Did the requirement of the achivement change recently?

Edit: I just have placed a supportcall at Zen Studios to get some more information about this. I will keep you updated.

Yeah, I think that's an error on Microsoft's end. TA shows less than 1% which seems more accurate. It's only ever been possible by scoring 1BN on one table.

It says combined in the description. So the way I see it, is that its combined scores. Could well be wrong though.

0
By FullMoonBeaver on 01 Oct 2017 20:13
Well it definitely doesn't work with combined table scores, I personally have confirmed that as have many other people. Currently the only way to unlock it is to score 1BN on one table. They may well change the requirement in a future patch though.

You have to do it in one game. I have more attempts between 75mill-660mills, but no achievement. Finally i got a 1,094bill score and got it!

On Sorcerer's lair try to focus on minigames (cellar in middle). You don't have to win the game/obsidian, just enter is enough. After 6 you can enter to the Midnight. 2 was never enough for me, but when I entered 3rd times in Midnight mode, then I got 1billion score...

What a flat out horrible achievement description. Either the person making up the descriptions was mis informed or this achievement was meant to be combined.

I emailed zen about this last night and this is what they said.
Hey Jonathan,
thank you for contacting us!
You just had to reach the sufficient score!
Hope this helps!

So, then I asked them again do you need to do it on the same table with 3 balls and had nothing back yet, I will update.

That is one fantastically awful email reply. laugh

Mind you, at least you got a reply. I've contacted them a few times about the removal of DLC from Pinball FX2, and never had any kind of response. Zen have pretty poor customer service, and a real lack of empathy for the achievement community.

I know tell me about it, I did ask them if it needs to be done on 1 table with 3 balls in the first place and that's all they said, which does not really help. So I emailed them back asking the same Q. We will see what they say, I'm not saying your solution is wrong by any means. Is it really easy on that table?

By J ROLLER 1979 on 11 Nov 2017 15:03
I wouldn't say it was easy, but if you're halfway decent at pinball it shouldn't take more than a couple of attempts. It's definitely the easiest table to score big on though.

I am pretty sure this is now cumulative. I was playing women of power and got 222mill and got 100mill a few times and I was on 76% as it's tracking now too.
I played women of power again and got 80mill or so and my tracker now says 80%.
Now I'm absolutely sure I've not got anywhere near 80% in total across all my tables as I'm not that good.
I'm gonna just keep playing same table and see if it pops before this gets patched out.

I can confirm that it is cumulative over the same table.
I popped this achievement today on the Doom table, doing the 5 minute challenge over and over again. Progress increased after each time the table was played, and the achievement unlocked once I passed the required total.

The free Fish Tales table - Challenges - Survival - I earned 123 million on my first play on this table. I was only getting 7-15 million on Sorcerer's Lair because I'm pretty terrible at pinball. So you'd only need to play this around 7-10 times if you are crap.

Thumbs up from me. If they had ms. splosion man this would be a breeze. Easier than shit to get 200 mill or so in that game. This site is tracking and says I am 16/100 and I have no where near 160mill on any one table. I just started this game and it must also track from challenges cause I am working on them and my #`s are going up.

By SimonWyeJR on 30 Sep 2017 21:50
This is doable on the free table, trick is to get to midnight as soon as possible. Shoot the celler lights 3 times to make it come up, enter the celler and complete the mini game for a obsidias stone. Every stone held at midnight multiplies score by 0.5. It is possible to get 1.000.000.000 with 2 midnights, but most likely you will need 3. Midnight starts after the 6 main missions ar triggerd, do not get more then 12 stones or they will reset to 0, so fail missions after 12 to get to midnight. Upgrades I used ar rewind, multiball and trick shot.

Just want to confirm that the billion points must earned fresh as of the patch. I easily had over a billion before, so I went and played a quick round on each table to see if it would sync my highest score, but no such luck.

Very frustrated that all the time I put into getting high scores pre-patch does not help me in any way. In fact, I wish I didn't have those high scores because now I don't have a way of seeing my progress towards the billion unless I plan on beating all of my old scores angry

Heatlight's solution is good, but I want to offer a very simple alternative that is a much shorter read.

If you download the WILLIAMS Pinball Volume 2 pack and play the ATTACK FROM MARS TABLE you can unlock this achievement very quickly - likely on your first try and likely in less than 5 to 10 minutes. This is because this table gives out Millions of points like candy at a Halloween. And the goal of this achievement is to earn 1,000,000,000 points. I tried various other Tables and could never get it but on my first attempt on the ATTACK FROM MARS TABLE I earned it. I actually scored over 3 billion points and that was without doing anything special other than keeping the ball active. So if you want another option, this DLC is worth it for this 150 points of gamerscore!!!

Happy Hunting Everyone.

A free alternative, Fish Tales from Williams. Even if you stink you can score 7-8 million at a go, it’ll be slow, but you’ll get there.

To add to the other suggestions, Theatre of Magic (one of the Williams packs, can't remember which) gives out 20+ million bonuses like candy. One time I got over 50M on one hit. I hit 800M on my first game, and 1,287,000,000 on my second game, and I'm really just a hit-the-ball-and-pray player. Achievement unlocked!

Keep playing tables, as this score can be achieved with cumulative scores across all your tables. You could choose to play a lot of tables to increase your cumulative score or replay tables and better your previously achieved score in order to work towards this trophy. Some easy high scoring tables are: Star Wars: Rebels, The Avengers and Women of Power: Champions.
