How to unlock the Flawless achievement in Planet of Lana - Definitive Guide

If you have already finished the game then you absolutely MUST start a new game on a fresh save slot for the flawless run achievement. Using chapter select on the same save slot will not work! You must have no deaths BEFORE finishing the game and reaching your sister at the end of chapter 13.

I HIGHLY recommend turning off Quick Time Events in the accessibility menu.

I can confirm that pressing start and reloading check point when you get spotted by an enemy or before you fall to your death does work. If you do happen to die then just dashboard out of the game, completely close/quit game and resume. It will put you right back where you left off. The game doesn't save when you die, it saves when you reach a check point. You can see when the game saves by the icon at the bottom right hand corner. Overall this makes a deathless run relatively stress free.

Good luck!

Well, this achievement is really a challenge, as it is more complicated to unlock, I was only able to unlock it by playing without using any automatic save, as I saw that some people said that they managed to repeat the stages or using the save by pressing start, but for me it did not release zero several times and I just got it like this. the game is sensational and does not get sick is very worth it.

If you dashboard quick enough upon death you can still get this. I died 3 times towards the end of chapter 12 where I couldn’t menu and restart checkpoint. I didn’t want to restart the level so I quickly dashboarded and resumed saved file. It still unlocked. You maybe have <4 seconds to dashboard.

This is actually harder to do than described. The time to quit is very short. The second guide here tells you how to make a cloud save prior to difficult areas so you can reload that save and safely restart without a registered death. I recommend reading that so you are stuck doing another playthrough like me.

On my first run I always dashboarded, but didn't get the achievement. On my second run I dashboarded and started the chapter I died in from the beginning again. Probably a bit of an overkill, but I wanted to be 100% sure to get it this time.

I also attest that any death can be voided with a dashboard-quit if reload checkpoint is not an option postmortem. If you somehow respawn into an area you haven't been, a checkpoint likely triggered and you'll need to reset the chapter.

For the flawless I did die twice in the whole game. Once in like 7 or 8 I fell off the swinging rope and then once in I think 11 when after a cut scene I wasnt paying attention and the robots got me. Both times I just dash boarded out and quit game, loaded the game back up and re started the chapter and i got flawless achievement. Hope that can helps someone with it.

Just confirming you do not need to restart the level if you die or do the save-scumming trick. If you die, just quit the game then reload. I died a couple times and wasn't quick enough to quit and it loaded me back in before I closed the game, but I still got the achievement. I believe that as long as you quit and reload prior to seeing a save icon you'll be fine.

I feel like I have to write this as I have been way too aggravated by this game's mechanics and this particular achievement. I was save scumming all the way through, only to find out at the very end that I didn't get "flawless". What worked for me was to delete my save and reload the last checkpoint before the final "boss". As a matter of fact, when I first finished the game, I thought I didn't reach the switch on time and got killed, yet the cutscene played. The timing is, again, too strict in my opinion.
Reloading and subjecting myself to the neverending cutscene and last bit of walk 'n jump simulation did the trick, and I sincerely hope that it may help some of you.

Before starting the last chapter, can you chapter-select to mop up the ones you've missed? One robot puzzle in Chapter 3 constantly kills me. I've replayed it about 4 times at this point. I'm losing the will to live!

Can I continue and even come back to it in a chapter or two?

@Irishbanshee I doubt it and wouldn't risk it unless you did the "quit to menu - create a cloud savepoint" before getting killed and cautiously reloaded your game after deleting it locally (again, after each death). I loathe the game for that reason.

I got this achievement having started my play through not really fully committing to it.

I started the game and on first death did the pause > main menu > play > load game…but I messed up and hit last checkpoint before then completing the above. I must’ve done this by accident 2 or 3 times. Only later in the game did I start using the dash quit method. I did not restart any levels - I was fully expecting to have to go back for a 2nd play through but by some miracle this unlocked for me.

You can't use chapter select, to replay chapters that you have died on. This is from a q&a I found on reddit.

2.The one for not dying is the hard one, the other one comes for free when you complete this one. I’m sorry to inform that you have to complete the game with no deaths for either Lana or Mui, getting caught by the Village Chef in the beginning counts as dying. You can’t go back and replay a chapter you already died in, but this might be something we can consider to change if a lot of people think this is too hard. We wanted to create a challenge with this achievement.

I was doing a side-by-side run of regular and flawless, so I wouldn't forget solutions, even though it broke the flow of the game. Once I got the last shrine though, I did the guide-quit method whenever I died. I got tired of replaying puzzles and watching the same unskippable cutscenes. I was also glad I did once I got to the fast-paced and limited-movement spaces.

I can absolutely confirm that whenever you die, just dashboarding > quit game > reload game > continue, will absolutely still get you this achievement. I did it around 10 times throughout my play through, and this achievement popped just before the end credits - no need to mess around with cloud saves and deleting local saves on the console etc!

Just make sure that you don’t continue after you die and trigger the next save point - dashboarding and quitting the game needs to be your go to move after dying! I accidentally continued after a death early in the game, but I dashboarded and quit the game after the game loaded me back in and I realised what I’d done, and I still got this achievement to pop, so you can still get this if you accidentally reload your checkpoint after a death.

Also, when I was spotted or was falling to my death, but hadn’t yet actually died, just pausing and reloading checkpoint absolutely works (again, I did this several times through my play through and still popped this achievement)!

Good luck!

Yes, I too can confirm that if you die, hitting Xbox button, pressing Home, then quitting game, restarting game, and selecting Resume does not void achievement. I got a bit nervous when I finished the game because it didn't seem to unlock, but when I checked, Flawless and the 100% Complete achievements had unlocked silently. Phew!

However, I can definitely confirm that chapter select after completing the game does NOT work. On my first playthrough I died in chapter 10 right near the end and decided to replay the chapter after completing the game. I replayed last chapter (The village) to see if it triggered at the end. Nope. I replayed chapter 10 flawlessly a second time and both times, no joy.

Save yourself the frustration and stick with Bryson777's dashboard, quit, restart method. Dare I say, it's Flawless. wink

I'm finishing my "one chievo per day" run of this game and it's really touching and interesting, but having shits like this guy (deathless run) to do that yet locks a god damn "platinum trophy" too is BOOOORING! Worse than this would be or had some "speedrun" shit (it spells "speedruin", with a capital "I" for me), like RE and Shantae games.
It's a simple game, but it had so much more things to push us instead of ask players to "do "everything" and never die in the proccess"...
I get that it's kinda short and can be pretty easy after you already played it - yet more doing reloads when you fail -, but still a stressfull/not fun thing to do.

Just got this achievement. Closed the game when I died just to be sure, because using chapter select would sometimes send me several puzzles back (pretty annoying during the fan level).

Fyi, the creators said in a Reddit Q&A that getting caught by the village chef in the beginning counts as dying. (@TheNickBox maybe that's your issue?)

Finally!!! After almost 12 hours about 9 hours just for this achuevement got it done ! I did replay all chapters when i was unable to reload check point especially with our little friend standing on top of robot ! i did exit the game in the light section at the end and restart the game again with resume option because I gave up and thought to give it at try if it works or not to delete the game since I replayed that chapter a lot !as soon as I reached the end, both of last achievements pop out ! Good luck to you all, and yes exiting the game fully by click on Quit from xbox works at least in last chapter!

I can confirm that going to the dashboard upon dying works,so you don't have to replay the whole chapter. You don't have to dashboard immediately so there's no need to panic. I will also add that each time I went to the dashboard I removed the game from quick resume before I reloaded

I followed Maka's video... Everything was great all the way until Chapter 10 where the fans killed me maybe 2 times. For some reason I was under impression that you can't move at all when these are on (thanks to GRIS most likely) but you just CANNOT jump. Each time I paused and quit to the main menu then resumed the game. In Chapter 11 I panicked that I messed up already because after your death there is a Mui icon on bottom right corner. Its actually just a loading not saving icon (blade is the saving one). I restarted chapter 10 and played al the way till the end. My achievements popped up without issues when I met the sister in the village.

Despite all the great guides/walkthroughs, I cannot get this achievement to pop, I played the game through without dieing (restarting a few chapters/checkpoints on the way) then replayed every chapter starting with the ones I thought it possible that I'd perhaps not restarted a checkpoint in time but still no achievement - really annoying especially considering how much gamerscore this and the last achievement give you and sadly means that I feel a bit dissappointed with the game.

If you have already finished the game then you absolutely MUST start a new game on a fresh save slot for the flawless run achievement. Using chapter select on the same save slot will not work! You must have no deaths BEFORE finishing the game and reaching your sister at the end of chapter 13.

I was also glad I did once I got to the fast-paced and limited-movement spaces.

Just done this on my first play through. Dashboard, quit and restart following a death works without issue. I left the QTE's on - they're pretty easy, and there's only 3 of them I think.

If playing on PC, can confirm force quitting via task manager after dying and reloading the game also works for this achievement.

Can confirm. Just quit out to the main menu and resume whenever you die. Works like a charm.

Dare I say, it's Flawless. wink

This requires you to not die during a playthrough.

It's not as tough as it sounds, though. If you already died, you should restart in a new slot. I suggest using the first slot for this, as reloading will be easier when you die. Restarting a chapter won't "fix" your save. If you die in a save slot AND reach the next checkpoint, that save won't unlock this achievement for you at the end of the game. You just have to exit to the main menu before the game saves, which only happens if you progress.

There is no need to mess with cloud saves or rush to exit to the guide or use Task manager to kill the game if you die either. You CAN die, but every time afterwards you should simply pause the game as soon as you regain control of Lana, exit to the main menu and continue from there. Do NOT use the restart checkpoint option if you die. The reason for this is simple: the game only saves when you make progress (quite regularly), and it shows the symbol resembling a leaf/arrowhead in the lower right when it does (as the game clearly states when booting up). The "running Mui" symbol is for loading, not saving, so don't worry if you die and you see that animation.

Every "failure state" counts as a "death", including being caught by the chef at the beginning of the game or letting Mui fall into water. Being detected by robots does NOT count (unless they also kill you, obviously).

If you are paranoid, you can disable QTEs in the options. I did not, and there are only 3 instances near the last third where there are any QTEs, and they are very easy to do. You can fail these also and return to menu and continue.

It should unlock along with the achievement for completing the game as the credits start rolling.

I wrote this guide because of the other two guides here, and had a hunch based on the replies that the game wasn't forcing a save when you died. I died about every single time you can during a normal playthrough (dozens, at least), and it unlocked for me no problem.

Highly recommend this solution. Simple and to the point. Had to play through a second time in one go since this achievement didn't pop the first time using the other guides. Took a little over 3 hours and I died 14 times. Completed on 9/30/23.

Did this on my first playthrough and it worked perfectly fine! I probably died 10+ times and just backing out to the main menu is enough. No need to dashboard or anything.
Thanks for the solution!

Thank you! This is by far the best/easiest/fastest solution here... I died several times, each time just going back to main menu and "resuming" once I had control again... Achievement popped as expected. So much faster than dashboarding, messing around with saves, etc... thank you!!

You can die. Start. Main menu. Resume. And you can unlock the achievement. Just don't progress after your death.

So simple and easy... it' doesn't need more.

I wanted to make this guide, because I see a lot of people struggling with other guides (dashboarding or restarting checkpoints right before a death etc). For a lot of people it does not seem to work. It also requires very precise timing and your window is very short. I have provided a safer way and a way with a 100% success rate down below.

In order to get this achievement you can not die even once during your playthrough. Getting spotted by enemies is no problem, as long as they don’t catch you or your cat/monkey friend Mui (who also can not die).

I am not going to write a comprehensive guide, but I want to give 2 essential tips which will make your life a breeze, instead of a living hell since the jumping mechanics and controls in this game are pretty finicky and will get you killed often if you are not extremely careful.

1. Turn off Quick Time Events in the accessibility menu! Not having to worry about fast QTE’s is a must and will save you a lot of unnecessary stress.

2. There is a way to bypass the game’s detection of registering a death. Multiple people have made guides and have provided excellent tips how to save yourself from having to start over entire chapters (which I have done way too many times before I found this trick) but this tip is so much better and you don’t have to worry about timing. What you have to do is: as soon as you think you are in a scary/difficult part of the chapter where death lurks around the corner and you see the autosave icon in the bottom right corner press start and exit to the main menu. After that press the guide button and close the game. Restart the game, press play and press resume. Doing this created a cloud save. As soon as you die, press the guide button, hover over Planet of Lana, press start, go to manage games & add-ons, go to save data, click on your profile picture and press delete from console (DO NOT press delete everywhere). As soon as you did that the game will close. Launch the game again and let the game synchronize the cloud save you just made, go to play and press resume. You will start from your most recent auto save and you can continue the game. The game will not register the death since you loaded your most recent cloud save. If you die again, rinse and repeat the steps.

This has helped me a lot and it will only take 1/2 minutes to follow the steps. I have died 10+ times and still unlocked the Flawless achievement this way. I hope this guide will help, it saves you from having to replay entire chapters over and over and over again.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for the solution, it worked perfectly when done right. I had died on an early section and didn't do the trick right so the game saved it and the cheevo didn't unlock when the credits rolled. However, after reading that deaths are chapter specific, I went back using chapter select and redid that entire chapter without dying. Still nothing so I was ready to quit and do a fresh run when I decided to load up the final chapter. As soon as the credits rolled again it unlocked!

So if you're stuck, go back and clean up chapters you're not sure about and watch the ending again. Good luck!

if you die during your playthrough, after you respawn you can just exit to main menu and resume, you don't have to fully close the game. The game does not save when you die. If you die and then progress far enough to hit a checkpoint without quitting/resuming beforehand, then you will have to start over.

*MISSABLE*

As the description says, this achievement requires you to complete the entire game (all 13 chapters) without dying. However, you CANNOT use Chapter Select to mop this up after beating the game. If you beat the final chapter with any deaths on your save file, this achievement is void on that save. You'll need to start a new save file to try again.

There is one minor thing you can do at the start of a playthrough to help slightly, and that's to turn off QTEs in the accessibility options. There are only around three QTE sections in the entire game, and they are very easy if you're paying attention, but turning them off just turns those moments into cutscenes, saving you a bit of worry there.

To be clear, the following things void this achievement:

  • Dying (obviously)
  • Mui dying
  • Getting caught/detected by any enemies
  • Getting caught by the chef in Chapter 1
You'll therefore need to complete the game with none of the above on your save file. However, that being said, this game is quite easy for the majority of it, and you won't even have much risk of dying throughout most of the game. This is especially true for the first half of the game where enemy interactions and hazards are minimal. The second half of the game has some more precarious situations, but nothing is too difficult.

Thankfully, there are a few easy ways to avoid voiding this achievement on your playthrough, making this pretty simple for anyone to unlock. It's important to note that the game only saves when you reach a checkpoint. The game does not auto save when you die. You can therefore exploit this setup as discussed below.

  1. If you get detected by an enemy or miss a jump and are about to die, quickly pause the game. If you're quick enough and can pause, choose to load last checkpoint, and you'll be back before you died without that death counting.
  2. If you aren't quick enough and you do die/get caught, use the guide button on your controller and force close the game app entirely. Relaunch the game and you'll be back at the same checkpoint with no deaths
  3. If you somehow manage to get caught/die AND still progress and get a checkpoint, all hope is not lost. Quit out to the main menu and, using Chapter Select, restart the current chapter from the beginning
With the above options available, the no-death playthrough becomes far more manageable. With enemies, as soon as you get detected just immediately pause and reload. Most of the time though, you'll likely end up dashboarding and relaunching the game. Thankfully it doesn't take long, and as I said, the game isn't very challenging anyway. You're unlikely to need more than one or two reloads per chapter for the first half of the game, and maybe a few more in the later chapters depending on skill and patience and timing. If you need any guidance on completing puzzles or the best ways to get through any areas of the game, refer to the full game walkthrough in Home At Last (40G) above.

There is unfortunately no way to know how many deaths you have on your save file, if any. However, be conservative using the above workarounds and you should be readily able to complete your first playthrough with no deaths and unlock this achievement.

If you die, you don't have to restart the game, just start the chapter again. The trophy drops.
