How to unlock the Alive and Planting achievement in Plants vs. Zombies - Definitive Guide

This achievement can be obtained only in Endless Survival mode. To unlock this mode you are required to beat all 10 stages of Survival mode.

Survival more is all about having a good setup to survive as much flags as possible. For those who wonder, 40 flags is 20 levels. This achievement will unlock once you get past 40 flags and get your brains eaten.

So what is a good setup? There are many good setups out there. I will go through some of them to illustrate the finer points of lawn defence. I would advise you have at least 9 slots and unlocked all plants. It would however not hurt to have more slots!

Below you will find the setup I got my idea from. Thanks to wARtist at www.hubpages.com. I tweaked it a bit to suit my needs. Let's first go through it and I will detail the changes when we get there.

- 6 front slots in pool -> Gloom-Shrooms with Pumpkins: They will attack everything around them, obliterating normal zombies that get into the pool and making short work of everything in the two adjacent lanes that is not moving to fast. The only downside is that in levels with massive Dolphin Riders you will be hard pressed on the 3rd column from the right and need to keep an eye on the pumpkins.

- Spikerocks on 3rd column from right (as will be referenced all columns): They will keep out unwanted Zombonis and damage zombies that make it that far. In addition they give you more time to deal with Gargantuars.

- 4th column in the pool: I did not use double magnets. I had enough cash at that point and to be honest I think that the controls are good enough to pick up money yourself. Instead I opted for an Umbrella Leaf and a Twin Sunflower. If you are not in need of more sun power than I suggest having a Winder Melon. They will slow down Dolphin Riders and alleviate the attacks on the Gloom-Shrooms. The Umbrella Leaf is great for protecting against the Bungee Zombies. More on those later!

- 5th column in pool: Cattails. They are your lifeline in levels with Balloon Zombies. In addition they will be able to attack Imps that are thrown by the Gargantuars.

4th and 5th column - Cob Cannons: They pack a serious punch and together with the remaining pool slots, those 8 cannons will form a near seamless rotation and will be able to take out masses of zombies. Two cobs will take out normal Gargantuars while you will still have 2 cobs in reserve on each side (well up and down) should more Gargantuars show up or should the red-eyed ones show. They are also great when waves of Football Zombies keep coming or when you quickly need to clear Dolphin Riders or Digger Zombies that threaten your plants.

Remaining pool slots: See 4th and 5th column.

6th and 7th column: While the outer row (relative to the edge of the screen) is packed with two Winter Melons the inner row (the one near the pool) holds Twin Sunflowers to net you some funds. The Winter Melons will keep the outer row in check since it will not be covered from the Gloom-Shrooms. The area damage comes in handy but the row will need a Cob Cannon shot from time to time.

8th column: I used a different setup. The outer row was identical, having Gloom-Shrooms. In the inner row however I planted Umbrella Leafs. The Gloom-Shrooms will be able to deal with Imps and Digger Zombies. The Pumpkins will need some maintenance but they should be okay as long as you keep an eye on them. The Umbrella Leafs are used to deflect Basketballs and Bungee Zombies. While they are infrequent they can seriously mess up your defences.

9th column: Winter Melons. They slow hordes of zombies and pack a punch. If you should be rushed by Digger Zombies who take out a Winter Melon, plant a Spikerock in it's place. Revert to the original setting if needed on the next level.

With this setup you should be good to go. Focus to get your Cattails up and running in the beginning while setting up Kernel-Pults in the non-pool lanes. Obviously you should have more Sunflowers in the beginning, I recommend the usual two rows, and replace them slowly later on.

Once you have your setup ready you should always choose some explosive power from the plant menu. it will come in handy to deal with incoming hordes. I also recommend having some Ice-Shrooms ready. Activate them with a Coffee Bean if needed. In levels with Zombonis I also recommend choosing Spikeweed and Spikerock to replace damaged defences.

The greatest threats:
- Bungee Zombies: You should be able to deflect nearly all of them with your Umbrella Leafs. If not than only one or two should remain. As they are slowed by your Winter Melons they will suffer heavy damage and usually not be able to pick up any plant. If you want to be absolutely sure they do not get anything, plant an Ice-Shroom as soon as you see the target markers and activate it as quickly as possible. This will freeze the Bungee Zombies for easy pickings. Note that if you do not use that many Umbrella Leafs then two Bungee Zombies might remain in a row. You will only be able to kill one of those and most certainly loose a plant.

Jumpers (Dolphin Riders and Pole Vaulting Zombies): While the latter are to weak to really pose any danger, the Dolphin Riders can seriously damage your Gloom-Shroom defences. In those levels I suggest packing double Pumpkins (using the option to clone a plant) and keeping a close eye on that row. You might also want to use a Cob Cannon shot in the vicinity just to be sure.

Diggers: They do not pose a threat if they do not show up in masses. Your lone Gloom-Shroom should be able to take them out fairly quickly. However, the leftmost column will need some maintenance. Double Pumpkin load-out is also recommended on these levels as continuous spawning Diggers might eat through it eventually.

Jack-In-The-Box Zombie: While the zombie poses no threat, his explosives do. In levels with those kind of zombies you might want to have a Cob Cannon rotation in order to blast the incoming zombies and minimise the risk of blowing up your Spikerock or Gloom-Shroom defences. You can also use Cherry Bombs, Ice-Shrooms and the like to get rid of them quickly.

I hope I could give you some details on how to get to at least 40 flags. If you should struggle then feel free to leave a comment or message me directly. Keep in mind that this is not he only setup.

Inspiration and Sources: http://hubpages.com/hub/Plants-Vs-Zombies-Survival-Endless-2...

Update: As reported by Jayour, there is supposed to be a perfect setup which requires very little effort. You should have enough info on zombie types to see why this is working and I suggest you try it should you get desperate or fail with other setups! I have not tried it and would recommend you use the original setting I proposed first!

You do not have to follow my guide to the letter. I included some information on how the different zombies can be handled and why I chose the different plants such that you can modify the strategy to suit your style!

Yes https://www.trueachievements.com/C+Cloudbuster+B.htm! You can wake up mushrooms with coffee beans. You can just plant the coffee bean over the mushroom and it will wake up! I would recommend this only if you have maxed out your space or really need the firepower!

I started out trying the solution that supposedly should be very easy with no effort, but it didnt quite work out against the big guys, so i switched to the corn-bomb method mentioned in the first section, and this worked out for me. I wiped at flag 40, but thankfully the lawnmovers cleared the flag level, and i got the achievement!

I agree, they could be switched to improve umbrella cover. To be honest in situations where a Bungee was threatening some area I did not cover I simply used a cob cannon on him just after freezing them. Often it already sufficed to freeze them for the catapult to take them out.

I have used the updated version as well. And got to Flag 40 before deciding that I was bored and I let it die gradually.

On my xbox, oddly, the game lags a lot after Flag 20 and I found not having to do any management apart from freeze shrooms/cherry bombs and the occasional pumpkin, a blessing.

I did include some minor modifications. I reduced the number of purple shrooms in the back from three to two; and replaced it with an ice watermelon. I also placed spikes (and the upgraded spikes) infront of my defence - these helped a lot against the ice machines.

Good luck!

The Great Legend here stopping by to say thanks to Epsilon Theta. I did almost everything you did in your guide and got the achievement. I forgot to put that Winter Melon down instead of the Gold Magnet. I had a Umbrella Cover and a Double Sun Flower...Should of used that Winter Melon cause those Dolphins did mess up some of my water defenses. None the less great guide and major props go out to you. Peace out and God bless! Oh yeah I also gave you a thumbs up!

Just obtained the achievement using the updated version. From waves 33+ onwards you may want to buy some Spikerocks to help stall the Giga-Gargantuans.

Do not try to upgrade plants in the beginning, except for Sunflowers of course. Focus on getting as many slots up and running as possible, focussing on your back rows first. Then try to build up the front rows of the pool as those will be your first line of defence. Hope this gets you through the first waves without much trouble!

What sort of build routine do you have at the start? Do you place peashooters until you can afford water melons or just save up and go straight to them?

Sorry to be a pain.

By Mike Langlois on 12 Jul 2011 13:22
No worries. I usually build up some Sunflowers and build Kernel-pults where needed. I would also recommend using Tallnuts and the cheap Potato Mine to your advantage. Don't worry to much about positioning in the beginning. It may be wise to try and get a Cattails up as soon as possible as it can shoot everywhere. Sometimes you can also avoid focussing on the rows are each extreme if you place a Garlic.

I myself did prefer my initial setup. The latter setup by Jayour has some flaws that you pointed out. To counter them you would have to make use of explosives or, if you have the funds, plant spikes.

I was able to do it with the picture but it was difficult because of the ice cars. I made to 39 and died...SO pissed. But tried again today and got to 41. It requires you to use a lot of explosives.

Indeed. For those waves I usually cloned some spikes and took explosives! They can be very annoying and large groups are best dealt with catapults and explosives.

Second method worked first time I attempted this Achievement, thanks! Gotta leave a comment, if you have it setup, don't spend any more sun then you need to. I used quite some sun to plant those Spikes and the upgraded version, and I thought I had way too much, 2 waves later I was lacking alot of sun and lost quite some defenses. So don't plant anything that isn't on the map,

I used the second method and it worked really well for me. I changed it slightly to have the spike rocks in the front row and used the cherry bomb and jalapeno almost as soon as they were ready. But very little maintenance was required on the pumpkins. There were two flags were one of the jack in the box zombies got the gloom shrooms in front but that was easily fixable next wave. Excellent guide Epsilon Theta. Thanks for the help. Completed Game stat +1

ok... I've calmed down now hehe. I tried the first setup listed here but it didn't work. I think my biggest problem was I didnt get the gloom shrooms in front of the pool setup fast enough. Those are your first line of defense it seems.

Will try this again soon.

By KillrNut on 04 Apr 2012 12:49
Yes they are. What I can advise you is to focus a bit more on sun energy at first and try and get a Cattails up and running as soon as possible. That will take care of any lanes and then you can just gradually expand by getting a second Cattails up. Only put leaves up if you can immediately put a Pumpkin on in as it will avoid unnecessary loss of money. You need not get Gloom Shrooms up immediately, have their basic version up first and in force which will keep them from getting destroyed and only then upgrade them. Also, focussing on the basic versions first will cost less. Don't neglect the other lanes of course!

I made it with the updated picture. Worked awesome. I only needed two gloomschrooms in the back to cover the diggers so I replayed one on each side with water melons. I also added spikes (and their upgrade) in the front lanes. It helped me alot during the waves with alot of vehicles. But I only started to do this when I have overflowed of sun and everything else under control kindof after flag 20.

used the second picture. instead of frost shrooms use upgraded spikes on the top and bottom rows, and used frost melons on the second column of top and bottom rows, kept chiles and cherry bombs on hand

The first set up only got me to wave 37, but the second one was perfect the only things i had to worry about were the zombonis( I hate those things so much). After I got everything set up the only thing I had to worry about were pumpkins and setting up spikes for vehicles.

I am using the first set up and am currently on wave 24 with no problems, the Key to any of them is to build up your sun funds as early and quickly as possible while the zombies are weakest. for example as in the video solution from Peter S789 solution. the first waves you should select lilly pads, sunflowers, double Sunflower, cattails, sqash, pumpkin, gloom shroom, coffe bean, and the gloom upgrade. (you can also gain some extra time if you purchase a fresh rake item from crazy dave ($200) it will place a rake in front of the first zombie so you dont have to worry about him. anyway get a few sunflowers going, as soon as you can place a lilly pad and a cattail you should, this will take care of the first wave good enough, put sunflowers alll the way out to the 3rd from right column. dont forget to add a 2nd cattail and try to start your gloom shrooms going. (you will need at least 450 sun as you will want to plant the pan, then a pumpkin, then your gloom followed by the coffe bean. if you have enough you can upgrade the gloom too) the sqash is just a cheep way to defend at first if they get too far.

line at least your first row of sunflowers with pumpkins and start popping out twin sunflowers. I didn't get any on my first waves because i was focused on getting the gloom shrooms up to help the cattials. (I also chose to get spikeweeds going instead of twin sun) either way this is what my garden looked like after the first 2 waves

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/UIogs/Games/Plants....jpg

as you can see you will be well on your way to a full bank of sun. I had the garden full and first gloom defenses up and still had 2000 sun to start.

on the next waves start to replace sunflowers with your defensive strategy of choice. I started by replacing the back row with winter melons. (dont forget to put twin sunflowers to help recoop the flowers you are replacing. after this remember that your outside lanes are the weakest so feel free to place some more meolons and winter melons as needed. also start turtling in with pumpkins and upgrade to spikerock as soon as you can(it takes so long to place the next spike rock you won't want to be surprized when the zombinis come.

after about wave 8-12 I had 9990 sun, at this point you really only need 3-6 twin sunflowers to keep your sun replenishing. another tip to use and may seem obvious but plan according to the wave, if you have all the sun you need then those flowers arnt doing you any good, put an extra melon in there if you are figting football or gargantuars. if there are bungee zombies then dig them out and add some umbrella leafs, also extra cattails never hurt anyone they are life savers on ballon/miner and the little guys the gargantuars throw.

Heres my set up at about 12 waves. as you can see i am starting to build my cob cannon defences and I just got done defending a wave with bungie zombieson the next wave I will replace the umbrella leafs with either more sun or melons
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/UIogs/Games/Plants....jpg

another little tip that will just save some time and $ is you cannot plant a corn cob on kernel pults with pumpkins on them facepalm so whenever you start putting them up (if you are going that route) then make sure you remove the pumkin before you place the kernel pult

Here is my current and final setup I am currently on wave 26,with 9,160 sun in the bank. I'll let you know how it turns out
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/UIogs/Games/Plants....jpg

(For those of you worried about the "non pumpkin" protected cob cannons next to the pool don't worry, with the glooms hittin that row and the spikes nothing has come close to touching the cobs. the problem with having them any farther back is the little guys that get thrown by the gargantuars land right on them and take them out too quickly. thats why i like to have 4 of them on the pool and the other 2 "up front" just keep your spike weed and rocks tended to and always have a cherry bomb or jalepeno on hand just in case.) also the only spot i've lost anything so far was the farthest left gloom shroom, from a dolphin level. so if you have room keep a lilly on hand for those levels so you can rebuid or at least place explosives

Let me know if you need help or if i can explain something better, hope this helps and like I said i'll update you with how far this gets me.

I used the shroom strategy and got to 42 (cause i deleted all my plants to just end it already) but could easily have kept playing. The key is to plant a shitload of sunflowers in the first stages. the only changes i made was i had 4 double sunflowers on the water instead of six and had 4 cattails. also, using the squash, cherry bomb and jalepenos took care of whatever the shrooms didn't. thanks so much. i just completed the game! ^_^

Used the second method, just added the Spikerocks. I'd like to think that it helped. Using the Freeze Mushrooms, and Cherry Bombs/Jalapeños was a must in some cases.

I was looking for a decent method, as it was difficult to keep aiming the Cob Cannons. Shooting multiple cannons was a challenge for me with all of the lag I was getting.

Very helpful solution, and thanks for the heads up about dashboarding. Had a few instances where there were so many zombies on the screen I wasn't able to see my Gloom Shrooms get destroyed. Definitely a useful tip.

I tried the cobless method, but it started to fall apart in the late 30s (maybe I did something wrong?). Also, if the Gloom Shrooms get taken out, they're VERY expensive to replace since there's so many (I think the last one cost 1000 sun).

The Cob Cannons made it really easy, although they are a bit fiddly to fire sometimes.

Was able to do it with solution posters altered top solution. Was a cake walk all the way through until around 36. The Zombonis were overwhelming and ended up taking out my top 2 cobs. Then my first column of fume shrooms got killed. Since I had so many zombonis all my funds went to spikeweed/rock and I wasn't able to replace the cannons. Luckily though I was able to make it past 40, but man I was stressing lol

Jayours' Setup worked perfectly. even after i got past wave 40 it still kept on defending really well and it took a bunch of flags to get through without me interacting. kudos :)

I used Jayour's method, with the exception of replacing one of the two gloom-shrooms with a winter-melon on the first and last row. Making that switch, plus using plenty of explosives and ice-shrooms, did the trick! Once I got to 40 I had to remove plants because even without my help it kept going too :)

Thx to this guide i got achiev using first setup and honestly i dont know what can it go wrong with it. I made it on first try and completed 42 flags( i got bored so like most ppl here i just sold plants to get killed) and i can say that till 46 or 48 i would still be fine. The only casualties that i had in later waves(30+) was strangely only the bottommost cob cannon, it had been destroyed 3-4 times and only it.

Thanks EPS.
Well detailed solution. I made it to wave 37 using the cobcannon solution, wave 41 with the other one. I found with the cannon i was so busy aiming and firing cannons i had no time to repair, and was quickly overrun in the high 30s.
A suggestion I can make is to dashboard every 10 flags copy the save over to another drive. This will save a lot of frustration if you die on wave 39.

I used the updated solution with the exact same plants positions, full sunflowers, perfect defenses as said, and I couldn't make it even through wave 30.
Very little effort ?? Talk about nonsense..
I got smashed from every corner by 10 gargantuas at each wave, and even with 3 explosives plants I couldn't control it.

If Gargantuas are your problem, try the original solution. While the canons require you to be more alert, they also give you more responsiveness and greater targeted firepower when needed.

I got to wave 23 and died on purpose because I had to leave. I read above that I only had to get to wave 20 to reach the 40 flag limit. If I needed more I could have simply paused the game. The achievement hasn't tripped yet perhaps it's one of those delay issue. Anyone know if I have to reach wave 40 or do you think the achievement will pop eventually.

You have to complete wave 40.

0
By vZvSephirothvZv on 06 Jan 2016 04:33
Each wave is a flag, hence, you need to reach wave 40. There are two flags, and waves, per level. Note the image in my solution, the bottom right-hand corner shows all waves in a level, hence, two flags. Therefore, you need to fill that bar 20 times!

The updated version is perfect. I had to remove the plants and let the zombies in to end the game and get the achievement, otherwise I quess I would still be playing. The only problem is the waves when you get lots of gargantuars and zombonis at once so it's best to keep the rockgrass(?) and copy cherry bombs to make your life easier during those waves. Also, just keep backing up your save file to save some time if you somehow do get overrun.

I highly recommend the second setup by jayour with a couple tweaks. remove the sunflower and melonpult that are behind the cattails and replace with cob cannons. also, remove the FRONT melonpult from the 2 sets directly above and below the pool and replace with sunflowers. using this setup I had max sun for the majority of the game and got the cheevo with ease. you will have to use the squash and explosives to help take out gigantaurs .

The second setup can be even better if an extra winter melon is put in the row like the 2nd and 5th and slide everything forward and doom shroom the first in the row. Use double cherries once you're all setup with a pumpkin just in case and put spikes in the closest 2 slots. Works great

jayour's setup worked for me but I wouldn't exactly call it comfortable. It was the first and only one I tried though, so I can't compare it to others.

40 was a bit of a mad scramble and I stopped caring from then onwards and just let myself slowly be overrun. Ended up on 44.

Take advantage of the fact the game auto-saves every 2 flags. So if you’re having a bad wave, you can close the game and try again from the last time it saved. I reseted my game about 3 times around wave 36 due to being overwhelmed but once I made it to wave 38 - I knew I could do it

Yes you should. Having both doubles your ability to deal with situations where you run out of cobs. Jalapeños are great for dealing with Diggers or Imps that have made it through your lines. Cherry Bombs are good in the front lines since they clear a 3x3 grid. So planting them next to the pool will clear some of those tiles too.

If you have the space then choose both! Did I reply to your question in the way you intended?

Ok takes two hours.
Plus i used Jayours solution but change the Gloomshroom on the top row (second square in from the left) to a wintermelon and the same on the bottom row to match.
Your biggest threat is red eyed gargantuars on the outside rows. The wintermelon takes care of them, and make sure you keep repairing your pumpkins.

We (my girlfriend and I) tried using the last picture you used, and we got the achievement first time. However, it was very, very close, and we feel that it definitely isn't one that requires very little effort.

For one, it isn't effective against the zombies driving that white car thingy - they move quickly, in packs, together with countless Gargantuars, and they're immuned to the effects of the freeze shroom. We got hurt really badly by them, more than the Gargantaurs.

By the 30-odd flags, we were always rebuilding because of them. Halfway through the 40th flag, we had two rows (the top and bottom-most) wiped out, lawnmowers used, no plants left. We thought we were toasted, but strangely, zombies didn't appear in the bottom-most row at all after it said "a large wave of zombies are approaching, etc.". Thanking our luck, we focused our attention on clearing the top-most row, and managed to survived, barely. On the 41st flag, we promptly died and the achievement popped.

I also followed the update solution and it worked perfectly for me. I just planted sun and used the squashes until i had about 5000 sun then planted exactly as in the screenshot, then just used cherry bombs and jalapenos until i got to flag 50 then got bored. Apart from having to maintain the pumpkins now and again it was easy, even for me.

An effective method to take out the miner zombies is explosives. You will loose the last plant in the line due to having to wait till there is enough room to plant an explosive but then you can clear all adjacent rows as well. If you keep getting this scenario reliably then you might want to leave the last spot on each row blank from the start and until this phase has been dealt with.

An alternative, the way I remember doing it is that I used Pumpkins to protect my plants while the Cat-Tails took the Miner Zombies out. If you still have trouble with the second method, try the first! wink

I also used Jayour's setup. Instead, I placed 2 corn cobs in the back on the water (where the flowers are), and I took out the 2 watermelons on the water and replaced them with flowers. You can also make a backup save on a different drive in case you screw up. Placing spikes on the front also helps a lot with the mowers.

Jayour's setup really helped the most. I did the same thing that Eric Fitro (above me did) late in the game. It was honestly necessary during waves 37-40 just to get past the large red zombies (sometimes I'd need two cob cannon shots and a cherry bomb ... plus my usual placements ... just to kill one). I'm so glad that I finally got this. The first time I used the guide I died at 39, mostly out of boredom.

PRO TIP: If you start feeling like you had a really bad round, dashboard. The game only saves after you clear 2 flags. Take advantage of that. It's better to lose minutes of your time by dashboarding than hours of your time by having your brains eaten a round too early.

Gave the first setup a shot and made it to the mid-20s...nothing wrong with the setup, really, just didn't work out for me mostly because I had zero experience with the cob cannons and found I didn't like how they worked well enough to try the same setup again. The second layout worked MUCH better for me...wound up selling stuff off at 43 so I could finally be done with this. Like Ryn0 mentions above, though, swapping out one of those shrooms for a melon is extremely handy toward the end. I actually had enough money to just alternate out the Umbrellas on the waves I didn't need them just to give myself more long range firepower. Dropping spikerocks out front does a good job of taking care of the zamboni guys and it really slows down the gargantuars since it takes them a few hits to destroy it.

Odd thing was, even with the setup completed and everything where it should be, the bottom row took way more of a beating than anything else...maybe it just gets more zombies...

Either way, with a couple of attempts, anyone should be able to make either guide work...and backing out and copying the save to another location can't hurt...I wound up doing that after waves 28 and 34.

Jayour's method is the best method by far. The only plants I ever lost were the front fume shrooms of the top and bottom row. Lost maybe 5-6 pumpkins total from thrown zombies and dolphin rider zombies and the only time I ever needed to pay attention was wave 39. I tried the first image and I thought it was less effective for me only because I had to rely on myself to use the cob cannons. I lost a lot of plants and only made it to level 30. I'd give Jayour's setup a try first only because you can purchase the plants used in the store faster than the first setup.

Got it using a similar layout to the first picture but instead of the 1st and 6th row cob cannons, I had some more winter melons and I swapped out the cattail for sunflowers. Just a heads up: nearing the 40th wave, the digger zombies may dig directly towards your 2nd and 5th row cob cannons, making it a bit of a struggle to micromanage and rebuild. Also ensure that you keep 1 or 2 cob cannons at the ready in waves that have bungee zombies as they can very quickly disrupt your flow by snatching high value plants

Thought I could upgrade the "perfect" setup by adding by adding more winter melons on the outer row and my idiotic engineering managed to get me killed halfway through wave 39 so if you want a good piece of advice don't stray too much from the path.

That bottom image is a hit and miss, I tried it twice reaching wave 38 ( Gutted ), It varies because the enemies on each wave are random and if you get unlucky on a few waves in a row your screwed!!! Defo need the cannons to make it easier. Took me 12 hours to find a decent setup on YouTube even then I had to tweak it myself. Good luck and try attempt the top image first.

Also you have to manually press A on the cannons and direct it, I didn’t realise this until a couple of waves through due to concentrating on all the other stuff 👍🏻

I used Jayour's solution but I changed two things. I moved Leaf plant against bungee zombies 1 row to right from pictures position. And I had freeze melon on top left and bottom left corners. Other than that it was the same setup. I found it easiest to start by buying rake from store to kill first enemy. Then spam sunflowers while kill zombies with potato mine and squashies while planting more sun flowers. Then add Cattail with pumpkin as soon as you can. And then another one. Only put twin sunflowers in to pool to final position. In the beginning I had two columns of sunflowers and later on I replaced them while building final setup. In later levels if there were raged gargantulas I took double cherrys, jalapeno, squash and freeze shroom to slow first and last row enemies. Most of the time I had 9990 sun so it wasn't the issue. If level didn't have raged gargantulas, I took double pumpkin to maintain.

Hey @Epsilon Theta ! I tried the layout from above and put the umbrella leaves where the other guy had two more gloom-shrooms. It worked fine, I got to flag 43. Prolly coulda gotten farther but I kinda lost focus as soon as I was past 40 cos I was pretty much only whoring after the achievement and you don't unlock it until you get your brains eaten :-D I guess you know where I'm coming from there - don't you just love that beautiful achievement-unlocked-sound?! Awesome guide. I've got one suggestion, though. You should switch the cob cannons in the front with the winter melons and twin sunflowers, cos the latter, you can protect with pumpkins whereas the cannons are too big for protection and it doesn't really matter which way you put them martially speaking ;-)
Thanks again and keep up the good work! 49 thumbs-up and 0 downs? - not bad!

Follow this video and make sure you always keep your eyes open for the ballon zombies because this set up will allow you to kill anything on land even those inraged giants really easily but it has no real defense agaisnt air so keep a blower on hand when you see the flying zombies ot push them back. Hope this helps :)

Edit: As stated in the comments by there is a way to fix this plan to defend against air without the need for blowers. In the video there are to gold magnets placed behind some shrroms replace these with cattails and one of the sunflowers as well this will fix any problems. Also this video is not mine all credit goes to IamSooty

i really liked the video in getting me set up. But once I got going I liked the top method better. The umbrella plant taking the place of one of the gloom shrooms in the back really helped. And the more cob plants did as well. One thing that is really nice. If you are in a bind and looks like you wont make it, just quit to dashboard and try the wave over again. That's what I did and finally got this last achievement.

Video completely on point! This is the solution, definitely. Did it first try and managed to get the 40 flags (I could've gone further but just wanted the cheevo LOL).

Just a side note: swap the shrooms from the 2nd column to the first, and in their place put the palms, as it will eventually help with the skydivers on latter flags; also, place 4 cattails instead of the sunflowers and magnets on the pool, and it'll help later with the balloons too. Everything stays the same and plant constantly the boosted spikes to quickly kill those plows.

Watch your pumpkins at the back because of Diggers and 3rd from front in the pool because of Dolphin riders. I'd recommend 4 cattails in the pool because they kick ass, they not only ensure the fall of balloon riders but destroy Gargantuar midgets, and additionally attack diggers and all lanes in front. Always keep some basic firepower like normal Kernel-pults and melon-pults cos you'll be knackered if you lose them.

I used a guide that I found on a different site for this. The setup is pretty similar to Epsilon Theta's original setup, if not exactly the same. One reason I liked this one is because it kinda gives you step by step on what to plant, and will show you pictures to show you how your setup should be looking like. When you get to a point where you can switch plants you may need to look ahead a little bit to see what kind of stuff you may be planting just in case there's something else you'll need that wasn't being said to be planted yet 'cause you didn't make it that far yet. Definitely don't wanna waste time waiting to pick plants again 'cause you don't the ones you need The only things I do differently is instead of just one Spikerock in front of the Cob Cannons I try to get Spikerocks on all of the remaining rows up there. I'd suggest when everything is planted to always have the Spikeweed and Spikerock because you'll need to be replacing them when they're destroyed by Gargantuans and Zombonis. The other thing is to keep an eye on your Cattails, and maybe the Sunflowers and Winter Melons in the row behind them when there are Bungee Zombies. You will need to use a Cob Cannon to save the Cattails for sure, not entirely sure about the others I mentioned though. I take no credit for the guide, Dian Ara's Quest I believe is the person that made it. All credit goes to them, I just wanted to share it in case someone likes to kinda have a little bit of a step by step to building your defenses like me. Now that I said all of that. here is the link to the guide.

Just a suggestion, but once you reach the point where sun is no longer an issue, replace the back two sunflowers with umbrella leaves. I had both my cattails stolen at the same time on a balloon wave. I lost 3 lawnmowers, but was able to hold them off with the cob cannons. These 2 umbrella leaves should protect your cattails as well as your winter melons.

This was the one for me because the guy in that wrote the piece spelled it all out for a dummy like me. i failed a couple times but it was because i had a few items in spots where i thought it was "close enough to the image"... but gucked me. when i followed his steps more strictly, got it first attempt. you know you are doing it right if by round 20 you aren't losing any items and just clearing waves easily.

since you have to let the zombies win in order to end/lose the game and pop the achievement, the easy way out is to just stop firing your cobs rockets. zombies will eat everything quickly...

thanks for sharing this one!

Here I'm showing the updated setup doing the last two flags (39 & 40) so you guys can see it in action an also see what you need to do while using it.
One of the Twin Sunflower is missing because a bungee zombie took it, you need to freeze them to avoid that in some cases. Didn't have the twin sunflower equipped at the moment so i planted a gloom shroom instead, did the job.
The most annoying zombies are Giga Gargantuars, you need to help your plants to beat them using Cherry bombs, Squashes and Jalapenos.
Save money for repairs, this is important since pumpkins deteriorate as flags go by, also as you can see in the video below some Giga Gargantuars get far enough to smash the Fume shrooms on the outside lanes so keep an eye on that.
This setup holds pretty well without too much effort.

This is the best strategy i found for this achievement, follow this video this and you should be good

Btw, this achievement glitched out for me, where it popped ingame but was locked in my profile, if that happens to you, try to unlock an achievement in some other game, from what i could tell, if you get some other achievement, the Xbox will "realize" that you should have had some other achievement in your account and will unlock it for you. If that doesn't work, then you'll be forced to wait around 72 hours for it to unlock, this happens with a lot of 360 titles, so just pointing that out there since it happened to me

This will take the most time to complete. You will first need to unlock Survival Endless which is done by doing all the other survival challenges first. Once you do this you will need to last till wave 40.
The video below shows someone getting to flag 76+ Just watch it carefully and follow the same principles and it hopefully should take too long to complete.

YouTube - Plants vs Zombies Survival Endless Flag 76 and Beyond

Just to note you need to die once you have 40+ flags for the achievement to unlock.
Also If you dont want to use cob cannons, for whatever reason, you can try this setup. Just remember to use Spikerock for all the zombonis. Thanks to Brambledamble for this setup.

To unlock this trophy you must first unlock the Endless Survival mode. To unlock it you must first finish Adventure mode to unlock Survival and than you must complete all Survival missions.

Go to the More ways to play section from the main menu and click survival. Here's a video taken from the original Plants vs. Zombies guide showing how it's done:

To obtain this trophy you need to play the Endless Survival mode.

To unlock the Endless Survival mode you need to:

- Finish the games Adventure Mode to unlock the survival challenges
- Complete all of the survival challenges

From the main menu go to More Ways To Play and then go to Survival to find the survival challenges.

Once you have unlocked Endless Survival Mode, simply survive 40 waves of zombies. Just die during wave 41 to unlock the trophy.

Here is a picture of the setup that I used. Made it to Flag 41 with no issues or close calls.

Here is a video by exitmusic123, on how to set up for Endless Survival Mode:
