Crafting your first item can come very early in the game. You may start out with enough materials to craft something, but if not, just hack away with your sword at a few trees and you will collect some wood logs.
Press the
button to access your menu screen. Use 
to move over to the Crafting screen (represented by a hand holding a hammer). You can cycle through your available recipes with the 
and 
until you find one that can be built with your current materials. The Workbench (tab 4: Crafting Stations & Furniture) can be crafted with 4 Wood Logs. Press the 
button once you have the recipe selected and your Achievement will soon pop.

This is a very easy trophy and probably doesn't need the guide.
Once you have some items looted from either killing enemies or destroying blocks, press triangle and go into the Crafting section (fourth menu heading). Find anything you can craft and create it for this trophy.
