How to unlock the Legendary Alchemist achievement in Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator - Definitive Guide
Popularity is gained for fulfilling potion requests. You will gain +4 popularity for a Tier 3 potion.
This achievement took me approximately 1100 potion orders and 128 in game days to complete after farming for ingredients.
Some tips that will make your life significantly easier when going for this (and the rest of the game's achievements):
Popularity cannot go negative, use this to your advantage at the beginning of the game to farm for materials by turning away customers so that you can advance the days to refresh your garden.
Try to make all of your potions using only the basic 4 ingredients. (I used about 1000 of each basic ingredient from 0-15 with buying every ingredient from shopkeepers on sale)
Only make tier 3 potions. Make a recipe before using the bellows (this will allow you to change the tier for the Crystal and Salt recipes later) and one after making the potion so you can quickly recreate them for sale. I would never intentionally change a potion for special requests from customers, there's no negative for not fulfilling additional requests (such as weak potions).
Using a mouse made the controls significantly easier for small movements while making potions. Accuracy matters.
Potion requests seem to be tied to which Chapter you're on. I did my run from 0-15 when I was on chapter 6, and never received orders for potions that weren't part of my chapter progress.
I would suggest leveling up Trading first to max, then map visibility. I used maps found online to make the map discovery significantly easier. (Be aware of old version maps online).
Haggling with vendors will save you/earn you ~40% on medium difficulty and is easy enough to consistently do well. I wouldn't suggest using the higher difficulty haggling.
Don't haggle customers as itll reduce the amount of popularity you gain, and you won't need the money.
You can make significant amounts of materials/money from buying and selling from all vendors when prices are green. (Half price to buy/double selling price). At chapter 6, I was able to buy everything priced green and still surplussed ~250k. Don't be afraid to buy ingredients you need.
Don't buy anything significant until you've got your Trading skill at or near max.

One thing that it took me a painfully long time to realize is that you can add ingredients without following their path! So when customers have a special request to add a completely nonsensical ingredient to a particular potion - just bring up your recipe for said potion, click on "continue brewing from here," throw in the required quantity of their nonsense ingredient, then immediately click "finish potion" without doing any additional cauldron stirring. It still counts as having those ingredients even if you didn't technically use them. It's really easy to do and getting the extra star or two for fulfilling the special requests will add up a lot over time.

This is the grindiest grind in the whole game. It seems like the developers are trying to make it really really hard to get this one. I'm at level 14 and it is a chore. Special requests later in the levels grant you up to +5 when they have RED requirements.
