How to unlock the Bringing the 'A' Game achievement in Powerstar Golf - Definitive Guide

Not necessarily a guide, but some tips to help achieve Elite (golds) for some of the events...

First off, the character I used that I found was the best was Frank with all of his custom clubs equipped. He had the furthest power attribute and it gave him an accuracy boost, plus a tree/rough boost. The caddie I used was Astrid, whose putt preview works wonders, especially putting being a very hard aspect of this game and a key part.

Secondly, tips for the hardest event in the game, Eruption Cup at the Burning Sands course. It is a compilation of all the Par 3 holes at the Burning Sands course, with ridiculous wind and pin placements. It took me about 1,000 tries / close to 12 hours (No Joke). In order to win the event you must score -3 or above. If you score -3 you will tie for the lead and in this game, tying for the lead counts as a win. Therefore in order to win, you must birdie 3 of the 4 toughest par 3's in the game.
For this event, I used Dominique (all custom clubs equipped) and Astrid.
First Hole - 4 Iron, Backspin and aim it just short of the middle of the front sand arch. Hit the shot about 4/5 in the last power bar. As the ball is on its way towards the pin, employ Dominique's spin ability back left toward the hole, this should leave you with a 5 foot putt up-hill to the left. Sink putt, 1 out of 3 Birdies complete
Second Hole - DO NOT TOUCH THE SETUP AT ALL. Only thing you need to do is add backspin. Should leave you an easy uphill putt, but be careful, if you miss ball will run off green. ***NOTE*** I did not Birdie this hole
Third Hole - 3 Wood, put ball cursor on the left to fade the ball into the hole. Aim for the back right tree and hit about 1/3 in the last power bar. This should leave you with an easy uphill putt. 2 out of 3 Birdies.
Forth Hole - 6 Iron, Put cursor on the left side of the ball to fade the ball around the big rock column in front of you and add backspin. Aim as far to the right you can without hitting the rock column in front of you. Check to see if your yellow ball line is safe. This should leave you with an uphill and to the left putt. Use Astrid's putt preview to make sure your lined up perfectly. Sink it for the win. 3rd and Final Birdie and a score of -3, you will end up tied, but in this game the tie goes to the player.
***NOTES*** I was all out of Golfer and Caddie boost add ons. I used, Accuracy, Strike, and Putting. It will be much easier if you have extra Golfer and Caddie skills to use, but it is doable without.

For challenges where you need to 1 putt each green and can't land on the green from more than 10 yards away, overall score par or better. Best thing to do is to land your approach just slightly off missing the green. Meaning tee shot on par 3's, 2nd shot on par 4's, 3rd shot on par 5's. This way when you hit your approach shot to the green it will only be a short chip shot and you can land it very close to not worry about missing the one putt.

Another tough event is the Woods and Putter event only, I believe its the 2nd to last event. Best thing to do here is make sure you don't hit it into the rough, stay on the fairway. Also, make sure you score well on Par 5's, it a huge opportunity so make sure you take advantage. If you end up short of the green in the rough or the sand trap, add back spin to the shot and miss right outside the strike meter. This makes the ball flub out on the green. Another good tool to use is your 90 foot putter when on the fairway or fringe.

I am doing this off the top of my head right now, but if anybody needs clarification or help on other events, please feel free to message me. Good luck and it is doable

I'm begining to think that the achievement unlocks at different points for each user due to the fact that the achievement tracker for these three achievements might be in correct. I'm currently at 88% for pro and 86% for amateur and elite although I have gold medaled everything except two of the 18 hole tournaments on the World Tour.

I hope to hell these unlock for me. I've done some seriously difficult challenges and I hope it wasn't for nothing when I finish these last two tournaments. Anyone else notice a discrepancy for their in game achievement trackers on this game?

Great tips I'm currently working on this one myself and the tip about frank really seems to hold true, I seem to just perform better using him then other golfers thanks to base power

Biggest tip is to not become too frustrated with the game at times, this is a tough achievement and there will be many many retrys when trying to achieve it (you will fail but sometimes you will succeed) so just keep with it

The Woods/putter event is not required for this achievement nor for Amateur or Pro. The last 4 challenges are not classed as Career Events.

HWNDarkside, my silver achievement unlocked after playing the very last event, the one where you play burning sands with no caddie skill, boosters, etc...

Goots 88 - my silver achievement unlocked without playing it. I've still got Bronze on "Pure Golf". Weird.

My bronze variant popped after the 18 at Burning Sands with no perks... so I'd say the last 4 challenges count towards the 3 Achievements.

To follow up, I now have a gold in everything except the very last special rules challenge in which I have no medals as of yet. The Pro achievement popped after the par 5 wood and putter challenge. The amateur and elite achievements are still locked at 97%. This means they will both likely unlock when I compete the last 18 hole challenge in the special rules area.

But it also means my theory of the achievements not tracking properly in the game could be correct. Keep a close eye on your trackers if you go for this. Redo any challenge if the progress doesn't go up properly after completion. Hopefully these damn things unlock when I finish up with this last challenge.

+1 to you my good sir - not so much for the guide, as whilst I am an avid golf gamer, your guide is about as much use to me as a chocolate teapot - some of these events are so fuckin' controller throwing frustratingly hard!!! No, +1 to you for your total awesomeness in doing this achievement!

FYI for the 1 putt challenges... you can change your club to SW and chip it while on the green. I did it successfully last night and then sunk the putt from about a foot out. Makes those way easier!

Any advice for getting even a silver against Kiara on the par-3 head-to-head? You have to putt less than she does without going off the course, but she cheats by just pitching it in from the bunker or rough. Not only does she almost always 1-putt, but she very often chips it in on the second hole to compensate for her guaranteed water shot off the tee.

Nevermind, I actually just managed it. She tends to putt only 3-4 times in this, but occasionally she will putt as many as 7 times, very rarely. It happened to me just now, and I got 6 putts without going off the course to beat her for gold. Reiko's special can sometimes net you a hole in one, though the time I managed that, Kiara only putted once in the first two courses and I had to start over.

On the ten yards or less challenges you can land on the green further than 10 yards away, as long as you don't putt from there. Just use a chip shot to get closer and then putt. It will still count as an approach shot even though you've already made it on the green.

Well the tracking isnt right. I have all events gold and I am stuck at 97%. The achievements for the ameuter and pro medals were also glitched at 97% and they just randomly popped at some point. I turned my xbox on and they were unlocked. Then I completed my last event I had left for the gold and it didnt pop. So it looks like it didnt track an event right. Glitchy and this should be put in the guide that you should check your achievement tracker after each event to make sure it is going up.
Looks like I will just hope it randomly pops like the other two or wait for a fix. ugh!!!

I am also having issues with this achievement. I just finished off all of the Pro (silver) challenges but nothing popped. I'll update if it does end up appearing at some-point, as well as if/when I get all of the Elite (Gold) challenges.

Thanks for the advice in all the comments and in the guide, great tips. I think the real key, like someone else already stated, is to not get frustrated. I'd be happy to help or give some advice if anyone has any specific events they need help with.

I would like to add that if your achievement doesnt pop. Immediatly before popping any other achievements shut your system off and unplug it. Wait a minute and plug it back in. This clears the cache and may work for those having problems popping any of amateur, pro and elite challenges.

Also would like to add that my achievement popped about 7 days after talking with xbox support and emailing the developer. It popped about 14 days after I earned it. So either it was random or they did something. Since the amateur and pro ones popped randomly who knows.

Achievement just popped. I talked online with someone from xbox support a few days ago for about 5 minutes at the most. They said others were having the issue as well. Today I turned on my xbox, checked the achievements and both the Silver and Gold Medal Achievements had popped. They aren't tracking correctly (It says I unlocked them 2 days after I bought the game....clearly not....) but I'll take it. smile

Again, if anyone is having trouble, feel free to message me. I'd be happy to help in any way.

I had this happen too. It popped a couple weeks later. I have had this happen for multiple achievements in games on Xbox One. I got the achievement and it didnt pop but then a couple weeks later it randomly did. The X1 achievement system is screwy sometimes.

KiR3D kind of mentioned the "chip from the green" strategy being a great way to cheese 10 yard or less app. shot challenges, however I will add that the chip from the green strategy also works for any challenges that specify you need to sink the ball on the "first putt" or similar conditions. Chipping from the green simply doesn't count as putting so you chip it close (or in, that seems to work fine as well) and that shouldn't negate those requirements for elite medals.

Hi guys,

first of all Goots 88 solution is great if you want to do this achievement more legitimately his guide is yours to choose! But if your virtual golf skills are pretty close to mine it means they are almost not existent and even his great solution will not help you much.

The way I got this achievement was first described by hisnameisfrank on xboxachievements.org but so far people there could not really confirm that this method still works so I tried my luck and got rewarded. As of 11/10/2014 this method does still work

I advice you to do this early on in the game to avoid some problems with your regular progression but you can do this basically at any point in the game.

Here is what I did:

I got this achievement by only playing the second level in City Park. When you get your gold medal there (or on any other stage) you will see your achievement tracker go up by 2%. So after that I deleted my local save game (just the local one, not the one in the cloud) and cut off my internet connection. The game will reset the gold medal on this easy event but will not delete the progress in the achievement tracker. Which will give you the opportunity to play the same stage again and get gold on it again. When you have done this simply rinse and repeat as many times as you need to do this to get your achievement.

I was just at the start of the game so I had to do this around 45 times.
The reason I chose this stage, even though it is rather long is just because I found it the easiest to complete with the starting gear. I tried the first level "warm-up" a couple of times but I failed more often than I nailed it. So I just stayed on the second stage. But if you are further in the game and have a better gear I guess you can gold whatever stage is shorter and easier for you personally (BUT make sure never to connect to the internet, otherwise you could delete your progress by accident).

Just a tipp for the second stage: it seems you are good to gold this stage with a -1 score at the end. Since you have 9 stages in total there shouldn't be to much of a problem to get this score on the holes. Most of them are pretty straight forward. And you will probably play them so often that you can play them blindly by the end of the day. Personally I had to restart the stage a couple of times when I started this grind but eventually I finished the stage almost always with a -3 or better.

So here are the steps again:

1. choose a stage you find easy and can get gold on in realatively short time (I strongly advice the 2nd stage of City Park)
2. get gold on this stage and dashboard out
3. go to the game icon push "start" and go to manage game
4. Delete your LOCAL save game
5. make sure you disconnect your X1 from the internet
6. go back to the game and play the stage again and repeat the previous stages
7. Check in the achievement progress from time to time just to make sure it still counts
8. Be happy you saved yourself some hassle with some of the harder stages after you got your achievement this way ;-)

Again this method still takes some time (at least if you do not find a stage with less holes on it) but for me this was the best and quickest way to get it. Chances are you are way deeper into the game and only struggle on specific stages, than this method can really help you out without having to play the same stage like 40+ more times.

I really hope this method helps some of you guys, it clearly did the trick for me.

please let me know in the comments, if this helped you guys, if there have been problems with this method or if this gets patched in the future ;-)

Hey. Thanks for the awesome solution. I will try this in the next two days. Iam sure that your method will work like a charm. Iam not very good in this game but want all the achievements. Short question from me.
Did i have to go online after every step or can i win a single event , clear the local save and repeat?

Hi I am glad you like the solution. I know your problem ( the one with the skill in this game and all the achievements ;).
To your question, no you do not need to go online after every match. Just dashboard, delete the local save and go back in. Good luck !

How do you get the achievement to pop if you are offline?

By PLANET13 on 15 Jan 2015 22:50
@ PLANET13 I think you have to go online for the achievement to pop. Don't all the Xbox one achievements only unlock online?' I am not quite sure about that to be honest with you. If you get it to unlock while being offline please let me know

When your achievement tracker shows 100% and you are offline and did not get the achievement, go online and it should unlock.

Just used this method to finish this damn game. Big thumbs up!
I was above level 60 when I started grinding the medals and can confirm that you will not lose your progress/gear if you are careful. I would always go offline first, then delete my local save just to be sure I didn't delete the cloud one.
Just pay attention when you go back online - you have to choose which save to sync (local or cloud) and I presume if you choose local it will over-write the cloud save. It's pretty clear which is which though.
Each medal advanced the tracker a bit over 2%. On the recommended stage (City Park front 9) you only need -1 to win, so with a bit of practice its not too bad, even with the starting gear.

On the 1 thru 8 guide I would change 5 to 4 to be on the safe side. I started this at 88%, you don't have to dashboard-out every time you get a gold medal just keep playing until. Just make sure you choose cloud instead of local saves when you go back online. I didn't loose any of my clubs etc. doing this laugh.

If you have all the easy stages done with gold medals, you probably should delete your local saves. But be careful I am not sure about loosing your story progress. That's why I advised to do this right after starting the game. This way you needn't to worry about loosing anything. Maybe copy your local saves to a HDD to be on the safe side

use at own risk. You can go delete your offline game save, make sure not to delete your cloud save also. You will have to disconnect from the internet. You will start over again but you can replay the first 9 challenges which are pretty easy and they will count towards your tracker. Log back online achievement will pop if you have completed a total of 45 challenges at gold. Reconnect to internet and achievement should unlock as you start up game. Load your save from cloud and you have everything back.

To delete your save go into My game and apps. Hit the menu button on Powerstar and choose manage game. You will see your game save on the far right select the profile and choose Delete from console.

Getting all the other achievements and saving that for last. Used that method on a different gamertag. Also used the same method for Peggle 2 objectives and also Trials Fusion challenges. Any game where the progress bar moves up in the achievements you can delete save and replay to make it easier

It should tell you that you have 2 saves. Choose to use the cloud save do not sync or you will lose everything you had before you deleted your offline save. I would wait until the career events are the only achievements you have left before attempting it.

So what I understand is, you can play the first 9 challenges, log back online, don't sync, and the counter stays up. You can then delete your local save again and go offline and get another 9 challenges doing the same ones again? You just need to jump online without syncing after each run so that the counter updates?

Good question Fuzz I was thinking you could only do it once cause then it has to sync up so if you get within 9 you could just do the first 9.
