How to unlock the Trial by Fire achievement in Powerstar Golf - Definitive Guide

First you need to have 6 different golfers unlocked. You start the game with 2 characters available and the rest are unlocked in career mode. Each area in career mode has a character you can unlock by beating them in a match play challenge. If you go in order, your 6th character will be Dominique who is unlocked in the Burning Sands area.

You then need to finish one of the Burning Sands courses under par with each character. The easiest and quickest way I found is to go to Free Play and do the Burning Sands Par 3 course, which has only 4 holes to play. Select amateur difficulty so you have short tees and easy pins.

These Par 3 holes can be a bit tricky, but the wind is always about the same, so after a few tries you should get a feel for where to aim the ball each time. It also helps to equip each character with the same gear so that their attributes will match and you can use similar shots for each.

If you are having troubles getting under par on the par 3 course, you may have better luck on the par 5 course (credit Krazie x360a).

You get one character and one caddie ability to use so use that to your advantage as well. You can of course always add more perks if needed, but you only need one birdie and then par the rest so it's not too bad.

Clarification from DrCanadianNinja:
"You don't need to do the same round six times. I did the par 5s with Frank, Kiara, Laoshi, and Dominique, par 3s with Reiko, and a career event with Henry and got the achievement that way."

Another quick method from Chunkeh Munkeh:
"Thought I'd add that you can actually get this by getting an under par score against Dominique in the career mode. Only 3 holes and 2 of them are Par 5's. If you win the first 2 you don't even play the third so it is pretty painless and quick. Got it today and took about half hour."

Nice and detailed. Thanks for confirming it's any round, otherwise I'd likely try the full 18 holes.

I would honestly recommend the Par 5's for an easier chance at it. Takes a few more shots, sure, bot the Par 3's on this course can be rough. Much easier to get under par on Par 5's, regardless of the course.

Just in case anyone is having trouble with this.

Thanks, will add that as suggestion.

Anyone else having issues with this? I got under par with each golfer on the Par 5 courses and it didn't pop. I have 0% progress as well (even though I got Jungle Adventurer). I played with Rivals if that makes a difference.

Same here bhaines23. No progress along the bottom of the achievement. I'm doing this on multiple courses on Burning Sands in career.
Granted i've only done 4 out of 6 so hopefully may still pop for me but with no progress shown i'm not sure if it will

A Little late to this party, but my achievement tracker was also not working for this one. So don't worry if you aren't showing any progress.

Also worth noting that if you do the Dominique career meet you don't actually even have to beat her. Just so long as u finish under par

I much prefer the par 5 course. Failed pretty bad at par 3's, but so far 3 for 3 on the par 5 holes.

I have noticed the progress bar not keeping track for other achievements, but did not really look while doing this one. I did have an instance where it was not saving my best score while playing free play, so not sure if something like that happened where it wasn't saving your progress. After I restarted my console, things seemed to be back to normal.

I agree with Krazie, the par 5s are far easier imo. Thanks for the guide.

Par 5's are the way to go, it is much easier.

Thanks for the info on this. I'm another one for the Par 5's. Got a -4 each time except the one time I got my best of -5.
Good way to rank up some coin also. I beat 2 rivals each game and got about 6K in coins.

I'm currently doing this as I write this. The par 5 approach is definitely the way to go. A comfortable -3 or -4 every time.

The aim for this achievement is to play under par on Burning Sands with all 6 of the characters.

Firstly, you need to progress through career to unlock the 4 additional characters, together with the initial 2 you have unlocked.

With all characters unlocked, I then got the achievement using Free Play, Burning Sands, Par 3 Holes and Amateur.

The key here is that the tees and pins are always in identical places, and the wind is almost always nearly the same.

What you can do, with a bit a patience is play as a character, with Kirby as the caddie. Aim where you think is correct, then use B for shot preview. You can then adjust your aim, but more importantly, you know where to aim roughly next time as well. Play the rest of the holes (to get to know the layout), then play again, using Kirby on the next Par 3, and so on. After 4 retries, you then know roughly where to aim every time.

For my next try, I switched caddie to Astrid, so I could use putt preview to birdie one hole and then try to par the rest.

I found using different characters, who hit the ball different distances didn't matter - more important was where you aimed the cursor for the shot.

To help I aimed as follows;

First Par 3 - (15mph head wind right to left) - back middle of the green, with maximum backspin on the ball

Second Par 3 - (20mph back wind) - down 2 clubs and maximum backspin

Third Par 3 - (10 mph left/right wind?) - up one club and aim just into the lava by the bridge, little bit of topspin

Forth Par 3 - (15mph back wind?) - maximum right to left spin (draw spin) aim for middle of the green

This set up gave me about 12ft birdie putts for the first 2 holes and on/around the green for the next two. As you only need to finish 1 under, you only need 1 birdie using Astrid.

Please note this is a guide only, and depending on your perks/clubs this may differ slightly. The Kirby route is the best way to know for you - my guide on shot location is just if you want to speed matters up.

For perks I was using "lucky drop", "10% less wind" and "25% slower swing speed".

Remember who you use - I don't think there is any tracking method and the new XBox One progress didn't seem to track me on this either. I did it in one sitting in about 90 mins. When you know your locations to hit it, future characters are quicker.

PM me if you want to use my caddie to help! Good luck!!
