How to unlock the Escape Velocity achievement in Prey - Definitive Guide

You can unlock Mimic Matter by researching Mimics and then purchasing it for 2 Neuromods. You can unlock Kinetic Blast by researching Phantoms and then purchasing it for 3 Neuromods.

A great spot for this is on top of Alex's House in the Arboretum. There is a flat area on top of his house, and you can use this to launch yourself at least 20 meters. In the video below, I show you how to get to this location without unlocking the grav lift, so you can get there early.

You should only need the first version of each ability, but it will be easier if you have a higher level of Kinetic Blast. The video shows that you only need the first level of each though.

I used the metal thermos located inside Alex's house because it was convenient, small, and sturdy. Mugs and glasses sometimes break in the blast or when you hit the ground, and larger objects sometimes don't go as far. So the thermos is perfect! Use Mimic Matter to turn yourself into a thermos, and then use Kinetic Blast to launch yourself off the roof. You need to move forward just a bit after initiating Kinetic Blast so that you launch forward instead of straight up. Also, be sure to have a full 100 Psi points so that you don't change back into a human before you hit the ground.

Don't worry about finding the thermos. Drop and mimic any of your material cubes which are small and indestructible. I used Synthetic.

Great solution! As a side note, if you attempt this after extending the escape pod bridge for the first time, you will not have a clear shot due to the handrail rising.

Therefore I maybe recommend using the same method but going on top of one of the large metal structures (Located on the roof of Alex's office) - This is how I nabbed it.

Just saw comment above, I extended the bridge and thus couldn’t get it at this spot, but great solution nonetheless.

I didn't use it, but I think there is a retract bridge option on Alex's computer.

@cactusine I'm not sure why it would do that. You should be able to use both powers at the same time.

There is probably a much easier way to do this, but I had fun trying to do it this way anyway wink

You will need:

Mimic Matter I (Morph Neuromod)
Kinetic Blast I (Energy Neuromod)

Method:

Final notes:

I was not recording when I unlocked the achievement, so it does not pop in the video, though while I was recording I shot myself way, way, way further than I actually did to get the achievement to pop.

I also have Kinetic Blast II unlocked already, but I am almost certain that Kinetic Blast I will do the trick for you.

Sorry if this is overly complicated and/or frustrating, but this achievement was hilarious for me to get!

This will require two different Typhon powers: Mimic Matter from scanning mimics and Kinetic Blast from scanning phantoms. Then you'll need to find a high location to jump off of. I recommend the roof of Alex's Office in the Arboretum. Then use Mimic Matter to transform into an object that won't break (like a book or thermos) and use Kinetic Blast to propel yourself off the roof as far as you can. You will have to have some forward momentum before the jump, otherwise you'll just jump higher into the air. Make sure you have enough Psi Energy so that you don't return to human before you hit the ground! If you went far enough, the achievement will unlock.
