How to unlock the Mimic Massacre achievement in Prey - Definitive Guide

Mimic Massacre

Before you start this you will need the following two items:
- Typhon Lure (Location: Hardware Labs under where you got your flight module)
- Recycler Charge (Location: Security Station in the lobby. Safe code is 0525)

Once you have these items, make your way to the Psychotronics section of Talos I. After you get your new flashy helmet, ride the elevator up and keep going forward until you see a door to your right. Follow the staircase and continue going around the area until you find a section that says "Labs A" and a wall blocked by glue.

Get in the corner next to the glue and destroy it with a wrench, then throw the Typhon Lure into the room to keep the enemies from moving then throw a Recycler Charge at the Mimics to kill them. There are exactly 5 Mimics here and if done right, you will get all 5 easily.

Note: Make sure you make a save beforehand just in case a Mimic jumps the wall before you throw the Typhon Lure.

There are three dead crew members, either make sure you don't recycle them or reload your save so you don't miss them

If you miss the first opportunity in the Psychotronics Labs, there is another handy place to grab this achievement further into the game. After rebooting the the reactor in the Power Plant, ascend to Level B2 and grab a keycard from a corpse (Mattew Connolly) outside a "Maintenance Access Only" inaccessible door. This keycard enables you to enter the Parts Storage on Level B1 (or alternatively hack the door if you have upgraded to level 3). Within are about 7 mimics. A Typhon Lure and a well placed Recycling Charge should get you the achievement. Although I was out of Lures, so I shot one to get their attention and kited them to the walkway outside the store, then threw a Charge into their midst.

This is where I got it. By now everyone should have plenty of recycler charges. I saved before and just threw like 5 of em in the room.

Thanks for this tip. I've been speed-running this PT and forgot about the labs. Big help! +1

Just got the achievement this exact way, although it was quite clumsy and lucky on my part - I threw a typhon lure, glooed all the mimics and hit with the shotgun!

On my playthrough, there was no keycard or door code on the mentioned character. I found the door code on a transcribe carried by Duncan Krassikoff at the "Plant Entrance" area, on the opposite side of the flooded and electrified floor in "Power Plant Monitoring" (create a bridge of GLOO to safely cross and look out for the Poltergeist that doesn't want you there).

You need to kill 5 Mimics in 5 seconds, and I found the perfect spot in Psychotronics.

During the mission Detour you will come to a section with Labs A and B upstairs. Go to the Labs A side (on the right side of your map), and there will be a room with 5 chairs, all of which are mimics.

You can use a Recycler Charge or two and finish off any stragglers very quickly since they are all sitting there waiting to be massacred!

I found a fairly straight forward way of getting this achievement with minimal hassle.

You will need:

A shotgun
2 or more Recycler Charges

Location:

During natural campaign progression you will eventually find yourself in the Psychotronics area of the Talos I. In this area are a couple of labs marked as Labs A, Labs B, etc.

You want to find Labs A. Inside Labs A you will find a Mimic, a Gloo'd up window, and a note next to the window. The note reads: "Warning: I've sealed several Mimics inside. Two casualties, so maybe as many as eight Mimics. -Manion"

Behind the Gloo'd up window are indeed several Mimics. I counted at least 5, just enough to get the achievement.

Method:

Blast the shit out of the Gloo barricade with your shotgun, and quickly switch to your Recycler Charges. Just start tossing those babies through the now exposed window.

I would recommend saving before trying this, as the Mimics can get stuck behind objects and not be dragged into the detonation of the Recycler Charge.

When the smoke - well - mini black hole clears, you should have no Mimics left in the room, and a sweet achievement on your screen!

There is also a video guide for you:

(Sorry for no audio, my recording screwed up due to some settings I had on. Will be all cleared up for future videos!)

Last note: I also tested this by bursting in and dropping a Kinetic Blast in the middle of the Mimics. It killed them all, so I'd assume this will also net you the achievement. At the time of testing I was upgraded to Kinetic Blast II.

If you missed the Mimics in the Psychotronics lab from the above guide, a secondary area is in the Reactor section of the station. When you first arrive you'll be forced to use a maintenance tunnel to crawl past a locked door. Don't immediately go to the opening at the end of the tunnel. First make sure your PSI is full, use Combat focus to slow down the mimic's retreat down the Grav shaft and drop a typhon lure down the opening. Jump down following it, hit them with another combat focus and throw a recycler charge towards the largest grouping of them.

When I did this I counted at least 6 Mimics in the hallway below, so should be more than enough to pop this achievement, but I'd strongly advise making a quick-save prior to attempting this as it took me a few attempts to get them all with one recycler charge.

3rd location for those who missed it in 2 previous mentioned places (just like me).

After I did "Incapacitate Dahl" I went to Psychotronics to find some missing crew members.
So, running forth and back between the security station and Labs A & B at one point you will pass by Atrium on Level 2 approaching sliding doors.
You will have Director's Office on the same floor on your left facing to these sliding doors.
I found suspicious number of mimics there,

** Do quick save here - so you can retry if needed **

so I threw a couple of Typhoon Lures and
once mimics gathered around - I threw 2-3 Recycler Bombs.
That's it.

Killing mimics is easy; finding 5 of them in a group and getting them to stand still for long enough can be tricky. A nice spot for this is in Psychotronics, on the second floor in Lab A. You'll see a window covered in GLOO, and a note nearby warning of the many mimics trapped within. What I did was break the GLOO with my wrench and tossed a Typhon Lure in. The mimics will all be distracted and will stand still, looking at it. Then toss a Recycler Charge among them. If you don't get 5 mimics, switch to your shotgun and mop up whoever is remaining to unlock the achievement. Be careful, there are bodies in there and if they get sucked into the Recycler Charge they will no longer count for "Missing Persons". I recommend saving before you try this, and reload after you get the achievement.
