How to unlock the TranStar Gourmand achievement in Prey - Definitive Guide

In Prey you can consume food and drinks to restore health and get rid of negative status effects. When finding a consumable you can either press Triangle-Button to consume it directly, or place it in your inventory for later consumption. Not every consumable has a fixed location. Some are random loot from corpses, meaning every player will find something else when looting bodies or objects. Corpses often have food or drinks that you can loot, so make sure you search everything carefully and loot every body you come across.

Personally, I unlocked this achievement when entering Alex's Room to find a keycard with the Ossetra Caviar. With enough exploration you should have no problem unlocking this achievement well before you complete the game.

For this achievement you need to eat or drink 29 different items, but there are actually 30 items if you include the Growth Formula Superfruit (an optional quest found in the Arboretum).

A few places with a large variety of food:

- Meeting Room in the Bridge

- Alex's Bunker (where you first meet him)

- Second Floor of the Cargo Bay Area (Shipping & Receiving)

Here are all the types of food and drink in Prey and where you can find them (chronological story order):

Methuselah Apple (Location: Talos I Lobby, on the upper floor of the lobby in the office where you must view the video file as part of a main objective)

I knew I had eaten/drank all of these at least once, but the achievement didn't unlock until I finished that one quest for the superfruit and ate it. It unlocked immediately after that.

Which superfruit to be exact, not the Growth Formula?

The one from the growth formula quest, yes.

That one shouldn't be required, I unlocked the achivement without doing that's quest.

I got it without growth formula. This popped for me in the cargo bay during main story. Last one I needed was on the corpse in the left area with blue flames, had to drop down to the ground between the two sets of flames.

Can "Kings & Way Sprinkling Water" only be found in the apartment, before the day reset? I feel like I missed that one somehow...

I found that fairly often, from memory you may be able to find some in the Crew Quarters Cafeteria or Yellow Tulip Bar.

Is that the only place to get the tomata jerky? Because I'm screwed if it is.

Nope, you're good - I found it in the lobby, so the food and drinks do not have fixed locations.

Sunburst Banana is listed twice -- once singular and once plural. Is that a mistake, or are there really two different ones?

Sorry, that is a mistake, I will fix it now.

I popped it when I ate the Superfruit. I had not yet found the Green Beetle Gin. So it appears the achievement requires a certain number of different food/drink, not all of them. There seems to be some room for error (at least 1).

It must be exactly one since I am fairly certain mine popped after eating exactly every item on this list. I'll add it to the guide.

Added more info to the guide about the Superfruit, and also added some places that have a good variety of food in a small area.

I found popstar in the Talos I Bridge briefing room but already popped the achievement with the Superfruit quest before I found it.

There's a single escape capsule floating outside of talos 1 when you first exit the machine labs area (without doing any quests). Inside you can find a box with a lot of unusual food like Glucassist, Sunburst Banana Pudding and so on.

Are you referring to the derelict shuttle?

Ding! Last one(s) for me were on the Bridge. No superfruit quest for me. No Gin for me.

I've found Green Beetle Gin in several places in Crew Quarters, including on shelves in Bellamy's Cabin and the Yellow Tulip Supply Closet.

do you need to regain health when you eat the food for it to count or can you just eat it even when you are at 100 health and it still counts?

It still counts even if your health is full.

Do you have to leave the inventory screen after each item is used?

Here's a spreadsheet so you can mark what you've already got.

I had to eat all 29 regular items plus do the superfruit quest. The achievement popped when I ate it with a final count of 30.
Sometimes if you eat a new item directly from a killed enemy, your count won't go up perhaps because it's random loot. I saved and then ate my first Veggie Blend from a dead Phantom and my count stayed at 16. I quick loaded, took the item into inventory, and then ate it from there. Count went up to 17. Damn this buggy-ass game. My opinion of Arkane really took a hit while playing it.

There are a LOT of different kinds of food and drink to be found around Talos. Look in, over, under, and around everywhere and everything for food and drink items. Some are in set places, but most of what you find will be randomly generated loot:

  • Big Bang Candy
  • Captain Spree's Fish Sticks
  • Cold Mountain Green Tea
  • Crispy Frites
  • Duck Beer
  • Glucassist!
  • Green Beetle Gin
  • Jamon Tomato
  • Jellied Eels
  • Kafe Karsk
  • Kings & Way Sparkling Wine
  • Methuselah Apple
  • Moonshade Lemon
  • Old Sardar Bourbon
  • Ossetra Caviar
  • Pomegranate Moonshine
  • PopStar
  • RanDom Dim Sum
  • Russian Blinis
  • Shaker Lemon Pie
  • Siskak Unagi Rollz
  • Skyking Pomegranate
  • Spiralite Cookies
  • Sunburst Banana
  • Sunburst Banana Pudding
  • Sun-Dried Tomato Jerky
  • Tamizdat Vodka
  • Udon Noodles
  • Veggie Blend

There is also one special food found as a reward for completing the "Gardening Tips" sidequest in the Arboretum:

  • Dr. Howard's Superfruit

Note: There is a slight room for error in getting this achievement. While the Superfruit is not required for the achievement, it can take the place of one of the food/drink items you have not yet found. You only need to eat 39/40 of all the unique items in the game.
