How to unlock the Operator achievement in Prey - Definitive Guide
Once in the Hardware Labs there is a room off to the right of the Atrium called the Ballistics Lab(If you need help finding these you can download the area map at the security terminal at the start of this area).
You'll need the keycard to get into the labs, but luckily it is on the body directly to the left of the door. Once you enter the ballistics lab turn right and there should be a safe that you can hack in the corner. Just hack the safe and once finished lock the safe using the button and hack it again. Repeat this 20 times and the achievement will unlock.
Edit: I'm pretty sure you can re-lock any safe, so it might not have to be the one in the ballistics labs. That's just the one I did it on.
In order to hack objects you will need to spend a Neuromod on the hacking ability. There are several tiers to this ability, and some objects will require higher tiers than others. Hackable objects include doors, computer terminals, turrets, operators, and safes. On the number pad, in the lower right-hand corner there will be a hacking icon. The number there indicates the tier of hacking ability you will need. There will be a short, easy minigame to complete afterwards. If you happen to fail, you will receive an electrical shock that will do some damage, but you can retry the hacking minigame as many times as you need. Doors that require keycards are not hackable. Hack twenty objects to unlock the achievement.
There are many chances to hack in the game so you shouldn’t have trouble. If you want to get this out of the way quickly, get the Hacking ability early on and use it on doors and computers instead of entering passwords and codes you may have found. I recommend trying to unlock this on your “Human Abilities Only” playthrough, because going for “Typhon Powers Only” or “No Powers/Abilities” will prevent you from having the hacking ability.
