How to unlock the You Rang? achievement in Prey - Definitive Guide

This achievement is part of the optional quest “Mixed Signals”. You should receive this quest after encountering the Nightmare 2 or 3 times (you can still get this achievement without using any Neuromods, you can also still get this achievement if you don’t kill a Nightmare and just hide from it). However, buying a couple Typhon Abilities will advance how early you can be given this quest.

To guarantee receiving this quest, buy Typhon abilities when you acquire Neuromods, when you encounter your first Nightmare, make sure to kill it and then wait in that area for January to call you. (Also don't kill January!)

You will receive a call to begin this quest, which requires you to retrieve an item to repair a satellite. The item is marked on the map, it is in the Machine Shop in Hardware Labs. You will see the item underneath a glass panel on the floor, to access it you need to go further into the room where you will find a small Panel fairly close to the window which you will need to repair to use. Once repaired you can open The Moon Door, which will allow you to grab the item.

Following the quest you head out to the Talos I Exterior where you will need to approach the small satellite and place the item in a slot (due to low gravity it can be a little tricky, so make sure you’re looking directly at the hole the marker is pointing to and spam cn_X).

Once you complete the quest you will have a new audiolog called "Satellite Signal: Attract Nightmare" (Data > Audio Logs), simply play it to summon a Nightmare and unlock your achievement. I recommend quicksaving before playing the audio to avoid having to deal with the Nightmare.

I never received this quest on my playthrough where I only aired human powers, Even though I killed more than 5 nightmares

It should come as long as you are not rushing through the game extremely fast. I got this quest done on my No Needles playthrough, so possibly glitched?

I will do some testing, it seems buying Typhon Powers can advance this quest earlier, making it easier.

I just finished my no needles playthrough, and I never got the quest in that playthrough either. I loaded an end-game save on my human-only playthrough and received the quest immediately after I installed 3 alien mods and killed the resulting nightmare. It worked out for the best, as I was only one audio log short of the "all audio log" achievement and summon nightmare counted towards it. Also, I logged over 40 hours on my human-only run.

Interesting, I have updated the guide with more details on getting the quest to trigger.

Does anyone know if you repair the panel to open the Moon door in the Hardwire Labs before getting the Mixed Signals quest can cause a glitch where you can't get the Mixed Signals quest? I did that and have not got the quest, despite killing 4 nightmares. I took the part, and went into space to find the satellite but the only thing January said was that it was part of something that needed further studying and killing another nightmare didn't get the quest. Also I've tried getting a few Typhon powers but never got a nightmare to appear.

Buy some Typhon Powers then walk around the Arboretum for about 20-30 minutes. Then enter the Crew Quarters and hopefully a Nightmare should spawn.

tried that and it didn't work, also went to the lobby and the neuromod division, so I think repairing the Moon door before getting the quest does cause a glitch.

It seems specific to picking up Typhon powers since the Nightmares are drawn to them. On no needles have encountered/killed multiple Nightmares and no quest has procced; that said, not doable without repair skill, so no needles was out to begin with (unless I've just had bad luck with chipsets and multiple useless doubles).

You can use Hacking to hack the console to open up the Moon Door, Mimic Mattaer to mimic something small and drop through the hole to pick up the piece or use the bow to shoot the button to open the door.

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to try what Kirkless did.

I recieved the related quest near the end of the game without unlocking typhoon abilities, after 7-8 encounters with Nighmare.

Just to add that I got this mission now with no Typon abilities but probably after 4-5 encounters with the nightmare, scanned it 2-3 times and only actually killed it once. The mission popped after evading the nightmare after I had killed the previous one.

I killed over 10 Nightmares in my human only run, never got the quest. I even did the quest without having it, and January never got back to me with the audio log. Gonna try for it in my no needles run, just gonna make a save before seeing the Nightmare for the first time, and get 3 Typhon abilities and kill it. Then after doing the quest revert back to that save.

Yep, I can confirm that works. Saved before entering the Arboretum, installed as many Typhon abilities as I could, killed the Nightmare, and about 5 minutes later January gave me the Mixed Signal quest. Did the quest, and just reloaded that save.

FYI - the AUDIO LOG name is completely wrong. It's actually called 'Satellite Signal: Attract Nightmare' for those scrolling up and down the list like I did.

Thanks, I haven't played in a while but I'll take your word for it and update the solution.

Weird, I triggered the mission and completed it, on my human only game, but never used it (killed 1 or 2 Nightmares).

Just finished my No Needles game, never triggered it (can't say for Typhon only, I saved before the end on my upgradless run and just reloaded).

It must just be very random, or very glitched.

I also played on Normal and with all Survival Options enabled, on top of only getting human skills.

I don't think there's any trick. The Nightmare first spawned on me in the Arboretum, then again in Neuromod Division, at which point the quest was given to me by January.

Whilst it may be possible to be given this quest on a No Needles run, it wouldn't be possible to complete since you either need Repair 4 to fix the control panel that opens the Moon Door, or Mimic 1 to mimic the fabrication plan on the floor next to the satellite.

So here's another glitch. I've done the quest, gotten the transcribes. I summon the nightmare and the achievement doesn't unlock. Tried in the arboretum, crew quarters, and talos lobby. I tried summoning and then repelling, summoning and then killing it. I tried summoning and then evading it. Nothing.

For me, I was only able to get the related questline to trigger once I had enough Typhon powers to be targeted by the turrets. Immediately upon getting my third Typhon power, a Nightmare was summoned and January came on to start the series of quests. Once I put the item in the satellite, I went back to the arboretum and triggered the summon at the base of the stairs and got an immediate cheevo pop.

So I killed 8 or 9, did the antenna but no mission from Alex on my human mods only run so will try again on the alien mods only campaign save.

I encountered at least 5 Nightmares without getting the mission. Then I installed my first 3 Typhon powers all at once and got it immediately after the Nightmare which spawned from that.

I wasn't getting this quest after killing 8 nightmares on my human only play through. So I saved my game and then bought 3 Typhon abilities (one being mimic) and then another nightmare popped up. Killed it with my shotgun and walked around for a few minutes. When I moved to a new area, January gave me the quest after the loading screen finished.

Is there a trick to get this mission to spawn on your human only playthrough? I have killed the nightmare 8 times, I have even found the part and installed it on the Satellite, but January just said he needs to do some research, and hasn't started the quest yet :(

EDIT: Typhon Playthrough I left the part alone and got the quest the first time I met the Nightmare in battle.

I'm writing this guide primarily for people like myself who saved this achievement for their typhoon powers only play through and didn't want to buy any human powers to do this.

You can actually use the mimic object ability to transform yourself into a small ball shape that can roll into a hole on the door.

I personally used a material ball. If you have too many materials you can keep splitting them in your inventory until you have an amount of materials less than one.

The hole is on the bottom left corner when you're facing the door from the console you would need to repair.

I hope this helped anyone in a position like myself.

I up-voted this solution as it's the only one that mentions how to do this with a Typhon-only play-through.

You Rang? Achievement?Trophy Guide

While using and upgrading your Typhon skills you start having a creature called a "Nightmare" chase you around the map. After a few encounters with the Nightmare you will get a call from January who will give you a mission called "Mixed Signals" which will require you to head to the Hardware Labs and find a piece of equipment for a satellite in space. You will the item you need under a locked glass panel which will require you to fix the controls with the REPAIR III skill.

Once fixed activate it and grab the part. Now head out into space and you'll have to attach the part to the satellite. When done you can head inside again, open your transcribe and go to DATA then select AUDIO LOG then you'll see two options, summon the nightmare or send it away. Summon it and this will unlock.

Apparently some of these nightmares are scripted events like when you remove the lockdown of the neuromods crafting from the director guys computer a nightmare shows up

The mission never popped for me on my my no needles playthrough or my human only playthrough. I realoaded an early save and this is how i completed it.

1. Save all neuromods until you have all of daniella sho's voice clips
2. Make sure to scan enemies to get their powers unlocked
3. I fought 1 nightmare when i entered crew quarters. (Unsure if you need to fight one early or not)
4. Installed cheapest typhon mods (make sure to install the first level of morph. I bought 6 abilities, however other guides say you need a minimum of 3. Safe bet is to install enough mods so that turrets find you hostile)
5. I went to lobby and was hunted by a nightmare.
6. January called me during being hunted
7. Hide or kill nightmare
8. January will give mission.
9. Head to hardware labs to sattelite location
10. Theres a small gap in the floor. Morph into the chipset inside to fit inside
11. Take sattelite peice
12. Head outside and fix sattelite
13. Head back inside and go into audio logs and summon nightmare and achievement will unlock

Hopefully this helps, let me know if it needs updating.

When you complete the side quest "Mixed Signals", you receive two new audio logs: "Satellite Signal: Repel Nightmare" and "Satellite Signal: Attract Nightmare". Use one of those from the menu ("repel" when you want to get rid of a Nightmare creature, "attract" when there is none) and the trophy is yours.

Beware, however, the logs have limited usage. You might want to reload the save afterwards.

Once you progress far enough in the game, you will start to be hunted by a giant Typhon called a Nightmare. Once you have either defeated or escaped the Nightmare a few times, January will give you a side quest to get rid of the beast. Return to the Hardware Labs and find the large panel on the floor. If you have Repair III you can fix the terminal to open the panel, if not you can mimic a small item (such as an apple) and drop into the small opening and click the override button. Remove the part from the satellite, and then travel outside to the Talos I Exterior. Search around for the orbiting satellite with the blinking blue light. Fly up alongside it and insert it into the slot. Once you return, January will give you an Audio Log you can manually use to Summon or Dismiss the Nightmare. Use it to unlock the achievement.

Note: While the Nightmare shows up throughout the game regardless if you've been using powers or not, January will only give you the side quest if you have been installing Typhon Powers.
