How to unlock the Be gentle with her achievement in Prince of Persia - Definitive Guide

UPDATE: Apparently, since the game's update, This achievement, along with Speed Demon are given to you for simply beating the game. I no longer have the game, so I can't confirm this. Regardless, here are the guidelines I used to get the achievement before the update.

These are guidelines, not steps, so please read them all at once.

0a. First and foremost, do not attempt this achievement on your first playthrough of the game. It's not impossible, but it will make your experience miserable. Enjoy your first play, it's a fun game.

0b. Secondly, going for the Light Seeds Master achievement in your first play is incredibly good practice for this achievement. By obtaining all of the light seeds in the game, you will be quite well-versed in the layout of each level.

Once you're ready for your Gentle run:

1. Make this a dedicated run. Don't try to get other achievements. If you do, sweet! But don't let yourself get killed 10 times while trying to dodge The Warrior's attacks.

2. Grab a sheet of paper and keep a tally of your deaths. In all reality, you shouldn't be dying too much, but it's best to know where you stand. However, if your significant other sees it, you might have some explaining to do, and explaining notes for video games is never easy, trust me. So be careful with that.

3. Save often. The game remembers your exact location whenever you save, provided you're not in the midst of a boss battle. Do not use the autosave feature at all. Make it your own responsibility to track your progress.

4. Save any time you're ready to enter a new corrupted region. If you've been practicing (ie, got the light seeds from your first play), then you have no excuse to fall victim to your environment. You should be able to get from entrance to fertile ground without dying. On top of that, any run from the entrance of a region to its fertile grounds should never take you any more than three minutes. Should you die, reloading will not waste too much of your time.

5. Save immediately before you fight a boss. You'll know that you're approaching a boss fight when you can see a plain-as-day path to the fertile ground (a blue pillar of light) in any corrupted region. Boss battles can go horribly awry, so it's good to have a quick retry plan.

6. Save immediately after any boss battle. There's no need to fight a boss again because you forgot to hit the Y button for that large gap while you're leaving the region.

7. Be unforgiving toward the beginning of the game. You really shouldn't die at all for the first four regions. You can take any enemy down with the YA-YYY combo, all bosses but The Warrior included. You're technically still in tutorial mode here.

8. Don't get too hard on yourself later on. Toward the end of the game, the random corrupted that spawn can give you some heartache, the bosses take longer to go down, and the green/yellow plates can be downright frustrating. Best practice here is to allow yourself a certain number of deaths for each region. Even though the game gives you infinite lives, force the old school gaming mentality upon yourself: you die 3 or 4 times, then you lose. Reload.

9. Just to be safe, count the first time Elika saves you (crossing the bridge into the desert) and the time she saves you in the final Concubine fight, as well.

All in all, it's a tricky achievement, because it puts you in charge of monitoring how often you die.

If you can keep track of this statistic, and if you save often, then there's really no reason you can't do this. I had about 35 deaths on my run, and I stopped reloading for the last 3-4 regions and the final boss.

Achievement will pop once you've brought the final light seed to Elika.

Good luck!

I think the trick here is to make sure you have the 1000 light seeds before you face the final boss. this way when you exit you can chop down the four trees before going back to chop down the last tree.

With all 1001 light seeds you can complete the game - let the credits role to the very end and there you have it. might be a glitch, might be the game developers rewarding those who let the credits run to the very end.

I only had 778 light seeds and was saved way more than 100 times I'm pretty sure. Just let the credits roll to the end and got it.

Yep, it's an unofficial part of the patch they released, the Be gentle with her and Speed Demon achievements are unlocked if you wait through all of the credits.
Doesn't look like the same is true for the DLC however.

I got it by going through a second time. I never watched the credits, so I didn't realize...

Another confirmation that you now get this and Speed Demon regardless of time take or deaths encountered. I finished the game last night and received Speed Demon after giving Elika the last Light Seed, then received Be Gentle at the end of the 2nd set of credits. I'd died well over 100 times and took around 14 hours to complete it.

Just loaded up a save before the very end of a game I completed without getting the achievement. Upon watching the credits roll, the achievement popped.

do you need to collect all 1001 light seeds before you finish the game in order to unlock this achievement? or can you just play through the game normally, beat the last boss and watch the credits then collect all the light seeds afterwards?

I just played the game normally with a few hundred deaths and only 677 seeds. Just had to wait for the credits after you revive Elika.

Can also confirm that both achievements unlock regardless of how long or how many times you die.

I played Prince of Persia way back in February 2009 and had beaten the storyline, but met the requirements for neither "Speed Demon" nor "Be gentle with her". After picking up the game again today to mop up the missing achievements, I loaded up my save made right before entering the temple for the final fight and completed the game again as suggested here.

I stood still through the credits while carrying Elika and was disappointed to see that I didn't get the achievements, but continued and completed the game, triggering a cinematic and another set of credits. This second credit roll (with the layered artwork shifting around randomly) unlocked both achievements once it finished.

Confirmed to work.

@alokboyWPG: You need to get them all before encountering the final boss. You cannot return from the endgame, nor can you save during it.

Worked today. Between this one and Speed Demon, the one(s) you actually achieved you get before the credits, and the one(s) you only get thanks to the update you get after the credits.

Just allow the credits to run to the end on completion, and this achievement is yours regardless of how many times you actually died.

I've checked this with a few people, and I received it this way, but I can't put a bonafide guarentee on it, I'd appreciate if a few members could confirm this method.

^ same as above, unlocked Speed Demon before the credits, then this one after. Why put the achievement in if you don't actually have to do the requirements for it?

i finished this game well over a year ago, but since i was bored i decided to go get the achievement for waiting 1 minute while holding elika.
i decided i was just gonna finish it again, and at the end of the credits the achievement popped up.
i was clueless as to what had happened, but now i know it's the update.

I can 110% say that all you have to do is let the credits roll. I took my time as i didnt want to have to go back for Light Seeds and once i collected those done the Runner Achievements finished the last fight and as the credits ended the 2 Achievs popped Be Gentle With Her then Speed Demon last. And i can say that i died a LOT and i took way over 12 hours to complete the game. Im glad i did wait cause i was going to do the Glitch but i think that solution should be taken down as its not needed...

As of 5/3/2011, I can confirm this still is the case. After reading this guide and realizing I could not get through this gamer in under 12 hours and w/ less then 100 deaths, I made sure I DID NOT meet the requirements of both achievements and it popped after the end of the credits. On a side note, I hate Ubisoft and their long credits. They do the same thing in the AC series.

I had a save at the end of the game from 2009 before the patch came out. Downloaded the patch and let the credits play out again at the end of the game and the achievement popped. Delighted! Thanks for the info as now I'm finally finished this 100%.

As of late August '10 this still seems to be true. I earned both this achievement and the Speed Demon achievement after waiting through the credits. It's marginally possible I earned Speed Demon, but I died hundreds of times, maybe thousands, since I often died on purpose to avoid having to back track while light seed collecting.

I'd given up on getting this one and Speed Demon, because I didn't feel like playing through the whole game again. But last night I started up the game, downloaded the update, and loaded my very last save from after I'd beaten the final boss. After chopping down the trees, getting the last light orb, and sitting through the seemingly interminable credits, I got both achievements. Less than half an hour.

While it's not really fair that we can get them this way now, we certainly do deserve some kind of achievement for having to endure The. Longest. Credits. Ever.

The glitchy way to doing this:
(It doesn't matter how long you took to beat the game, or how many times you died!)

- Save right after you kill the final boss, when you have to cut down the trees. SAVE before cutting down any tress, but after you put Elikah.

- Delete ALL THE OTHER SAVES apart from the save that you just made, right before cutting down the trees.

- Load, cut down the 4 trees, and LET THE CREDITS ROLL! At the end of the credits, if you haven't already unlocked them, the achievements "be gentle with her" and "speed demon" will unlock.

You don't need to delete any other saves or anything that drastic. There is also an autosave right when you put down the girl for those who completed the game before!

Solution is right, but you don't have to delete your other game saves. I just got the achievement after watching the credits, but kept my other saves intact. Cheap 100 points! (Not complaining)

I wanted to confirm something. It seems that you get this after you complete the game. I definitely died far more than 100 times but I was given this anyway. I didn't notice at first as it unlocked after the credits and well after the other trophies at the end of the game so it seems that this is just a reward.

Indeed, and the same is true for completing the game in under 12 hours. Both trophies have had the same update: If you've earned it, it will unlock before the credits. If you haven't, it will unlock afterwards.

Beat the game with Elika saving you less than 100 times.

Every time you see a short clip of Elika reaching out her hand you have been saved. When this happens you will start at the last piece of solid ground you reached before dying, if you died during a boss battle you will be saved and the boss will regain some health.

If you're about the fall to your death in a area you've already healed you can press the button and teleport to a different healed area without Elika saving you.

You can also save your game after completing any large string of jumps and load if you fail. Doing this practically guarantees you the achievement, but will make the game take significantly longer to complete.

GLITCHED (but in a good way)

You never actually die in Prince of Persia. Every single time you fail a QTE event in a fight, fall from a ledge, wrongly judge a jump or do anything else stupid then Elika will save you. This trophy would be a nightmare if it were not for the glitch mentioned in the Road Map so simply put, do not worry about how many times she saves you. When you install Patch 1.01 before the final boss fight, the save count is reset to zero! You could still feasibly die 100 times during the final boss fight and still miss this this trophy but this should not happen really and even if in the event it did, just reload your save from before you entered the Temple and try again. Note that this will not unlock until the final credits have rolled (which can not be skipped).

If you would rather not use the glitch then saving and reloading is going to become a regular feature of your game. There are no counters to keep tabs on how many times Elika saves you so you will need to do it yourself, I would say keep a running tally written down each time you die and once you reach about 90 'deaths' to then operate a strict save/reload regime just to allow yourself 10 mistakes for carrying on accidentally. One last thing though is if you start a new game to get this trophy, make a separate save as if you overwrite a previous game save, the deaths will carry over. Confirmation of this would be much appreciated on both disc and digital versions.
