How to unlock the Combo Specialist achievement in Prince of Persia - Definitive Guide

Once you have completed everything else, start a new game and do this on the first forms of the Hunter, Alchemist and Concubine. I suggest you do them in order so you know where you stand. This is the order I did them in:

Elika Combo:
Y X X
Y Y X
Y X Y X
Y Y Y
Y X Y Y
Y B
Y Y B
Y X B
Y X Y B
Y A
Y Y A
Y X A
Y X Y A

Gaunlet Combo:
B X
B Y Y X
B Y X X
B Y X Y X
B Y Y Y
B Y X Y Y
B B
B Y B
B Y Y B
B Y X B
B Y X Y B
B A
B Y A
B Y Y A
B Y X A
B Y X Y A

Acrobatic Combo:
A X X X
A Y Y X
A Y X X
A Y X Y X
A Y Y Y
A Y X Y Y
A B
A Y B
A Y Y B
A Y X B
A Y X Y B

Throw Combo:
A B A X
A B A Y X
A B A Y Y
A B A B
A B A Y B

Aerial Combo:
B A X
B A Y X
B A Y Y
B A B
B A Y B

I performed those combos the first time you battle the Concubine, Alchemist, and Hunter (in that order). I then performed the Normal combos on an Ahriman soldier. Use them on the soldier in the following video...

Normal combo:
Y
X Y
X X Y
X X X Y
B
X B
X X B
X X X B
A
X A
X X A
X X X A

Hope this helps!

I wasted two hours trying it on the final boss because he always hit the wall! It was so frustrating. It's cool how you made it work though...

I followed the video and got the Achievement, just one note... on the final combo I hit the enemy into the wall and killed him and the Achievement popped-up. Maybe it's just that you need all the animations of the combo even though you hit them into a wall, just to make sure I'd follow your instructions though. Thanx again!

I finally got the achievement on my third "playthrough". The achievement unlocked after accedently killing the enemy using the A-B-A-B combo. How to explain that?

By Srfsmurf on 01 Jun 2012 20:42
Worth noting: It's said at the end of the video but not in the solution. The achievement will unlock once you complete all of the combos AND the enemy you're currently facing is killed. It won't unlock in combat. I figured that out only after running through the entire combo list a couple of times.

i'm not sure if i'm just dumb or if something is wrong. when you complete the combo, should it not appear in your combo list in the menu? like when you go to start, options, combo list, it gives a list of combos. i'm assuming that once you've done it the combo should show up in the list. is this not right? if this is right, all i have to do are normal combos, but, unless "XY" is supposed to have a button hit before it, something is wrong with my list.
sorry i'm dumb.

The one I had trouble with was:

I had to go back and do it because I wasn't close enough to the edge. I was super lucky I had a save to this spot and didn't have to play the whole thing all over. :]

ok so the order is to do the Concubine, Alchemist and then the Hunter? could you break down the combos as to which ones to use them on whom? it would help out for those confused since you went the opposite order from the beginning paragraph to the later one

Great guide! However, I'd like to mention that this unlocked for me while performing a combo that pushed a soldier enemy into a wall and finished him off, so I'm not sure if only sometimes it counts combos that kill an enemy or what (ubisoft games can certainly be glitchy...)

Bit of advice once you complete your final combo you have to kill the enemies for the achievement to pop.

By SSgtRubberDucky on 18 Mar 2024 06:04
I did this against the final boss, letting 'it' heal as I went, even letting it kill me to get its health up, I worked top to bottom, one by one, pressing once for each button press. I made sure every combo ended on the floor & not in a 'triggered duel' ever against a wall or edge, to make sure it counted.

One problem, is some of the 5 button, or A-starters, or multiple Y's travel a fair bit, and may trigger a duel, so you need to try keep the wall on screen, keeping horizontal to it. just be mindful of how they move through the air

I jsut achvied this and even though i can vouh for the list being solid and complete, a couple things of mention to this solution:

Zale9342 says: I performed those combos the first time you battle the Concubine, Alchemist, and Hunter (in that order). I then performed the Normal combos on an Ahriman soldier. Use them on the soldier in the following video...
I do not understand why he says this and i basically ignored. I did all 63 combos from the list on the same "standard Arhiman soldier" in Sun Temple... exactly like the video. You do NOT need to do anything with any boss that you cannot do with the standard soldier.

I can say im having problems with this Achievement and i am on my second playthrough because i thought that when you completed the combo list had the extra slots to make the 63 combos you need for the Achievement. So im trying this.Get the 14 hit combo first do this link its a real easy 14 hit combo video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGVE4P3xgRM once ive have done that ill try the list with the video in the solution above. The only other thing that i noticed in the Video Guide that he does the 14 hit combo at the very end and that unlocks the Achievement but it is not listed in the video he does the B-A-Y-B it will unlock when the enemy is dead thats what had me when i watched it.So im gonna try again.

Great guide the Video is awesome piositive vote...

so does this work on all bosses AND the regular enemies you run into? and in order for it to unlock the last combo can't kill the enemy, correct?

By colostome boy on 10 Aug 2010 21:14
For a combo to be counted it has to not kill the enemy as far as I know.
This works on all bosses and regular enemies yeah, I farmed it on regular enemies.
If you get 'killed' in the fight the enemy will recover their health and you can keep going.

Okay i have some trouble getting this achievement, i have a few issues and i was hoping that you could clear up at least some of them. I just finished my first playthrough. when i look at the combo list of my completed game ( or at least the save right before i completed the game) and compare it to your combo list i will find that a few are missing in my list. when i try to do those on the final boss they won't get added to my combo list which struck me as awkward.

So i tried to make a new game, in this new game i would find the very same combo list as i had on my previous save but the same goes here, the combo's will not get added to my list. Now, i don't know if combo's are supposed to be added to your combo list after you completed them or not? And if they do, do you happen to know a cure for this?

Thank you in advance,

The final boss is about the worst place to get all your combos because he's so tough, you will have a very hard time doing many of these combos.

that's how I got it was on the final boss. It was easy took me 45 min. By the way it is easy to monday quaterback in April after good guides came out. I did this in december, right after i posted the solution. The reason the final boss was best for me was he gains back his health. most die in that game before you can get a long combo in.

I can vouch for this guide, since I did it this way. Pro: you can do them all in one go, if you just let him heal; plus most of the combos can be done first try if you dodge-roll his attack first. Cons: knocking him to the edge of the arena may invalidate the combo; not knowing whether you've done all the combos until the fight ends.

Can confirm this guide works. Haven't confirmed whether or not if Ahriman hitting a wall will negate the combo, but you can perform all combos if you make sure there's plenty of room to perform them, especially the longer combos.

I happened to have an old-ass save right before you meet this boss and decided to give it a go with him and try to avoid making an entirely new game. Excellent suggestion, my friend. Thumbs up.

It's actually really easy to get these combos in on the final boss. Just make sure you let him heal up -- I never hit him when he was below 1/3 health, which takes a little longer but is better than starting all over again. He does not need to be at any specific percentage of health, he will heal at random intervals regardless of how much he has.

A few pointers regarding these combos with this boss in particular:

First and foremost, always lead out with a counter (hit and hold RT as an attack is coming in and not sooner). This boss has the most pronounced attack broadcast (indicated by a huge sweeping arm movement and a grunt) and you can counter his attacks to lead every single combo, like I did. I was even able to counter his attacks with corruption covering my screen because it's impossible to miss his intent to attack.

This boss is adept at countering sword attacks (X button). Be prepared to try any combos with a sword attack not preceded by a lift (B button) several times.

All combos that start with A button are position swaps, meaning the Prince will hop over the guy's head and reverse the direction of the fight. This means that for all the combos that lead with A you want the enemy as close to the edge as possible, while the remainder you want to be close to the edge to avoid an arena border quicktime event.

I don't know if getting to the edge of the arena and triggering the X button mashing still counts the combo or not. I did not count them when it happened.

If you can keep track of it, I highly recommend doing these out of order and not going straight down the list. Because A leading combos reverse the fight direction, you can pull those out when the boss is too close to the edge to do any other combos. In addition, when he is hiding in his corruption shield you can only lead out with Elika (Y button) combos, and there are other situations where you can only lead out with gauntlet or sword attacks. Mix and match as the situation dictates -- the appropriate item will glow when you need to use it to damage him.

Saludos y como siempre digo; Nunca Dejes De Jugar!

GLITCHED

For this trophy, you must perform all 63 standard combos in the game. They don't have to be on the same enemy and you can do them in any order you like but there are widespread issues with people reporting that they have performed all the combos required and it has not unlocked for them. In order to maximise your chances of unlocking this trophy, ensure you follow a few golden rules as set out below:

  • Each hit must connect, If any part of the combo is blocked or deflected then you must re-do it.
  • Any combo which results in an enemy death, even with the final blow of a combo, will not register.
  • You must kill the enemy you have performed combos on for them to register to your total.
  • This trophy will unlock after you defeat the enemy you performed your last required combo on, it will not suddenly pop mid-fight.
  • Each combo must not be interrupted by scenery, that is to say that you enter into a mini-game because you were performing the combo too near a wall or the edge of a platform. This includes the final hit which may propel your enemy backwards and initiate the small cutscene of them almost falling.

Thanks to Xander45 for the tips.

Since there is no way of tracking the combos that are registered as being performed in-game, you will need to track them yourself. Below is a list of all of the combos so I recommend printing them out before attempting this trophy and tick them off as you go:

Normal Combo Set:

Elika Combo Set:

Lift Combo Set:

Acrobatic Combo Set:

Throw Combo Set:

Aerial Combo Set:

Now you're prepped and ready, don't waste your time on the general enemies. Instead, save the combos for the sub-bosses who can sustain a lot more damage, have large surface areas to perform combos on and in the early fights, hardly ever block or parry your attacks. Note that the Warrior boss can not be attacked by normal means of combat so you are looking to perform these on the Alchemist, the Hunter and the Concubine as these are the first fights in a series of six each that gradually get harder. You need to take advantage of the early encounters where enemy blocking and deflecting is almost non existent. In your very first boss battle, unload with as many combos as you can until the bosses health gauge is close to being depleted, pausing after every successful one to cross it off the list. Now you should let yourself get attacked and fail the QTE, this will restore some of the bosses health and allow you to get in some more combos. Gradually this effect will get weaker and replace less energy the more times it happens so when it is no longer worth doing, finish off the boss and remember that the killing blow, if it was part of a combo, will not count. Repeat this for your first encounter with the other 2 sub-bosses.

You should not have many left (if any) to do after 3 boss battles but if you have, perform the last few on your second encounter with any of the bosses to clean up and hopefully, if you've been careful to watch for what will not register and been methodical with crossing them off, your trophy should unlock.

If it does not, then what you should do next is continue on but in each boss fight you should concentrate on repeating the same set of combos from the list e.g. like Elika's attacks for example. Do just these and repeat them over and over, letting your mark regain health like in the early fights just to be triple sure before finishing them off and marking that little sub-group of combos off your list. When you encounter the next boss fight, do likewise but obviously with a different set of combos. There are six 'sets' as per the list above so hopefully at some point after the next six sub boss fights, your trophy should unlock (as mine did).

Should this step fail to unlock your trophy, you should forget about it for now as you will be running out of boss fights to perform the criteria for the 'Special Action' trophies and the bosses will be blocking much more now anyway. You should hopefully not be in this position but as a last resort, complete the rest of the game, ensuring you do the Patch 1.01 trick for the other trophies. Once that's all done, start up a brand new game and progress up to where you are outside of the temple with Elika. Head to the Sun Temple and defeat the Hunter and heal the fertile ground. Now head down to the generic enemy found in this area off to the right (you should remember where this is from your earlier playthrough) and allow time for it to fully spawn. Now perform each and every combo on this enemy. His health will degrade way faster than a boss but unlike bosses, when you fail a QTE with a generic enemy, their health replenishes in full every time. You may only be able to make 1, maybe 2 combos before you will need to stand still and get beaten up before you can resume your list. This method is tedious and with the relatively small platform you are on, some of the longer combos which also involve a throw will quite often trigger a QTE meaning it will not count and you will have to do it again. Upon landing the final blow of the last combo on the list, proceed to defeat the enemy and your trophy should pop.

Just for ease of use, below is a video of all combos being performed so you can see the animation sequences to double check you did it correctly. Credit to PringlesForAidan:

The final thing to mention is that people all over the internet have asked whether or not the 14 hit combo required for the Sword Master trophy is needed for Combo Specialist, I can confirm that it is not required because I have seen timestamps displaying this trophy earned before the 14 hit combo trophy.

The best of luck with this and please post here if you need any further help with it.
