How to unlock the I Know Because I Must Know achievement in Prison Architect: Edition - Definitive Guide
I'm only putting this solution up because it took me way longer than it should of to figure out how to do this. For reference, I did this on my personal map, available in World of Wardens called "ta escape", but you can do this in just about any map with a 'staff' door.
- First, you will need skill points in Locksmith. It seems the more ranks you have in this, the quicker you will be able to open doors.
- Second, you will need a screwdriver, typically found in Workshops. I'm not sure if you can Lockpick with other items (drill perhaps?) but this is the one that worked for me.
- Finally, find a 'Staff' door (usually on offices or areas workers can easily get to without needing a guard to open), make sure noone is 'observing you' (check the eyeball in the top left) and take out the screwdriver. You should now see the option to Lockpick the door by holding . A bar will fill as you're holding the button down. Once the bar fills, the door should open (if only momentarily).
There are probably other ways to do this but this was the surefire way I got it. If you're using my custom map, in the bottom-left corner is an 'S' shaped hallway. At the end of the hallway is a staff door. Grab a screwdriver from one of the Workshops (bottom-right) and make your way to the end of the hallway. I made the hallway this way so that you shouldn't have to worry about guards seeing you. You can then take out the screwdriver and lock pick the door 50 times. The door seems to close a second or two after being picked so it shouldn't take very long.
For reference, this was the map that I got most of my achievements in so my inmate was maxed out in Locksmith and Engineer if your results vary. There's a Classroom with a Shop in it near the bottom of the map for getting skill points quickly. Be sure to Recruit an inmate and order them Extort Convicts to get money quickly.
Let me know if you have any questions.

For this you will need the 'Locksmith' skill. When you have a proper tool (again, go for the scissors in the medical area) you will be allowed to pick locks (via button). Even regular doors can be picked. This should come normally while boosting for the snapshots and crew members recruits. If you do not get this normally while going for other achievements, just get to an area of the prison you are allowed in (such as the Chapel) pick the lock, go in, pick the lock, go out, rinse and repeat.
