How to unlock the A Day In The Life achievement in Project Cars - Definitive Guide

Ok there is a way to get this from a solo quick race weekend, what you'll need:
1. Your console on for 24hours (Obviously)
2. A micro USB cable to connect to your controller and console (So it doesn't shut off!)
3. To make sure that your console isn't set to auto shutoff in your console settings (Power & Startup, the 'Turn off after' setting).
4. Disable Idle screen notifications under your notification settings.

Firstly take out any batteries you have in your wireless controller and plug the micro USB cable into the top of the controller and then into the console, this should keep the controller on as it makes it a wired controller. If you're using a wired controller you're already set.

Now for the race itself, from the main menu select 'Solo' and pick any short track, I chose Brands Hatch Indy, now scroll to the far right option with the laps on it and edit the following:
~Laps - 1
~Opponents - 1 (Just because)
~Press cn_RB and change the Time Progression to REAL TIME, this is the crutial part.

Back out of the menu and pick a car you want, now start the race and sit your car off the track where it wont move. The AI car will complete one lap and then pit on the second. Now you just leave the game running with your car sat there until 24 hours has passed, you'll know that 24 hours has passed in game as your lap time will have gone passed 1440 minutes now simply complete the lap and the achievement is yours!

Note: The game needs to remain the main open app on your console since if left in the background for a long time your xbox may close it. You can if you wish snap an app but it wont be very fun watching something in a small window whilst your car just sits there. BCFCBristolRed confirms that you can pause/switch to another app briefly without voiding the achievement so long as your lap timer is high enough.

Here's a video showing the setup and the race clock being at 1440minutes

Worked perfectly here too. I had to restart it 3 times because of 1 console update (!!!) and 2 disqualifications.

I figured out why I was disqualified: because while I was idle, my car goes backward. When you go backward, a timeout is triggered, disqualifying you if you do not go forward within the time.

So, there is some quick tips to add to this solution:

- "Brands Hatch Indy" is not the best track because plan sections are difficult to find. When you stop your car anywhere, it can move because of slopes. Prefer a karting track, they are more plan. Or find a track where you can stop in a slope but blocked by something to avoid any movement.

- Use manual gear !!! With manual gear, you can go neutral. So, while you're idle, even if some controller vibrations (they can be hard on this game) trigger some commands, your car doesn't move since it's in neutral position. I also consider the game will not consider any movement in neutral position as a real movement. It may allow to avoid the disqualification.

- Set weather to clean: I've seen my car moved by wind when weather was on random. So, to be safe, just set clean weather smile

Hope this will help someones :)

Will the race continue if I use the TV app or Netflix?

The game must remain the active app. Snapping Netflix would work

I didn't get the achievement at the end and I exactly followed this solution. I'm going to give it another try but nevertheless I'm a bit out of ideas why it didn't pop.

Did the game pause at any time?

By Spilner on 16 May 2015 17:58
No, but I had another issue with this game where I fulfilled the requirements for an achievement and it didn't pop until it magically pop along with a later unlocked achievement in the very game. Maybe it's the same case with this, either way my 2nd attempt on this ends tomorrow morning.

It's still locked after the 2nd attempt. Unlike other games the general achievement progress tracker doesn't seem to work in this game.

Quick question, if for whatever reason you do pause, does this void the session with regards to the achievemen?. My lap timer is currently on 881 as I type but I paused it and went to the dashboard to double check my console wasn't set to auto shutdown....... crysleep

Hey do you have any tips for leaving the console running when going sleeping or doing other stuff? I tried this two times already and each time the game crashed at like 18 to 20 hrs in... and it showed that "something went wrong" popup. facepalm thanks in advance

I can confirm that even if you temporarily pause and go to settings it works. I guess as long as your lap timer is over 1440 minutes, it's good to go. Cheers for this solution dude!! +1

Have you recently hard reset your console ClassyWings ? Sounds like it needs it, try holding the power button until console turns off then turn back on again. (You wont lose anything)

i got a problem:
- the xbox was setted in "always-on" (don't turn off automatically)
- the pad was connected by cable

but during the 24h i checked if everything was going well...
but the gamerprofile was disconnected
and the game has returned to main screen.

why? problem with internet connection or something else?

We know dude, we did all that. Current XBox One controllers *WILL SHUT OFF AFTER 15 MINUTES WITHOUT ANY BATTERIES AND PLUGGED IN.* That's what we're saying. I have the XBox One S with new controller, and also an Elite controller which behaves the same. I also tried it with original XBOne controller and it did the same thing. Don't think it matters but I'm part of the MS Preview Program so running newest OS, unlikely tho -- from searching around it looks like current controllers on current firmware are programmed to shut off after 15 min no matter what. Again, we get it, no batteries and connect via cable - THIS IS WHAT WE'RE DOING.

Also to add just incase its said, I too am part of the preview program (its insider program now btw) on the alpha build and nothing with my controllers has ever changed, OG One, S controller and Elite all behave the same.

I'm thinking it could be our cable perhaps, unless its the one that came with the elite controller in which case I use that and its fine

Yes, I can confirm your solution Spilner. It works with my Elite controller and I'm on MS Preview Program .

By DieNadel1 on 28 Feb 2017 20:45
OK guys, I figured it out. It's the cable. I was apparently using an inferior cable, and it's a known issue. It's strange because it can clearly power the controller, as it stays on for 15 minutes w/o batteries in it. I switched to a cable that came with a tablet I have and it now stays on, with any controller.

So I was on track to getting this achievement. All had to do was sleep through the night and then wake up and it would have been 24 hours. I woke up with like a hour left but when I checked the race it had the session complete screen with my race time as just under 21 hours. Any idea to why this happened and why the race just ended when I was asleep??

Worked perfectly. I can confirm the game can pause, as long as the clock goes past 1440 it will work. My game paused a few time with a wired conroleer and I couldn't work out why, then I realised there was another controller plugged in with the battery still in which would occasionally power up and become the main controller. When it powered down after in activity it would pause the game.
This took me 18 hours with all the pausing, but still worked.

Ozymandias, with me it happened exactly the same as you, but there is a way to solve this, goes into settings --- options ----- notifications and turns off the enabled notifications option. Then it goes into ------- options ----- options from idle mode and disables the option to show things when inactive. After doing this just do what says that solution of the achievement that she will release quietly.

Lol thanks for that solution @BundaoLive but I ended up setting my race up in MP rather than a quick race or career because in multiplayer even if your game pauses, the race will go on. Wish I had known about your idea beforehand.

By Vex Twilley on 11 Jan 2018 02:57
Yes, this solution needs updating since Microsoft added the 'Idle Screen Notifications'. You need to disable this in the settings under 'Notifications' then 'Idle Screen' as it will automatically pause the game after around 10 minutes of inactivity.

@Oo NighTbase Oo, If you followed my comment, the achievement was unlocked, yes, because when you deactivated the notifications, you deactivate the notification that you unlocked the achievement, so it will not appear on the screen, but if you open it in your account and see her achievements she will be unlocked.

Great guide, just one thing I found out that you didnt cover. If you controller is still timing out check to make sure you are using a data cable instead of a charging cable. Seems there is a difference. Also plug in a headset to the controller and it will stay on. I started trying to do this and controller keep timing out after 15 mins. Changed cable and added headset worked great. Thanks for your tips.

batteries OFF, and plug USB cable DIRECTLY to XBOX ONE console, not from any other source (router, power adapter from cell phone, attached directly to power). the point is that you connect usb cable directly to xbox one console with your xbox one controller without battery inside! works perfectly.

I don't get what I'm doing wrong. I've tried this solution so many times, different cables, different controllers, and the game pauses after 10 minutes. The controller doesn't shut off but the game just pauses automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity. Is there a setting for this?

By Vex Twilley on 07 Jan 2018 02:22
Nice guide! Works like a charm!

Few extra notes:
The number of laps doesnt matter. So if you wanna play a laps races now and then, do that. Just remember you need to finish all laps.

You can pause, it doesn't affect the achievement (as long as the race time runs over 1440min)

Cabled controller might also shut off after 15 minutes. I used a charging usb cable with no battery and it kept disconnecting, even with a rubber band on L. I changed to a data cable, it stayed on for the hole time.
More on that, when connecting the charging cable, the controller light turned on automatically; with the charging cable I had to hold the button to turn it on and sync.

Ok, this achievement should be done in career mode.
Wait for an invitation event (season 2 or higher at December, 15th)

Turn damage, fuel- and tyre - consumption off.

You can quit the qualifying and can start from the last position.
The first and only thing what you to do is drive into the pit lane. There is an option to change the driver to an AI.
The AI driver is good enough to win the race, but it doesnt matter for the achievement.

From there you can relax and do some other important things, like homework, sleeping or take a little walk.

The 24h race must be done in one sitting. There is no save option in the race.

For wireless controllers i can recommend a wire to avoid the controller shut down. If this happen, the game will paused.

I hope this guide helps.

Good luck.

Sorry, for the bad english;-)

Something to help you 'box' is a 'pit'

Also a tip for the controller, take out the batteries and just plug in any micro usb cable from the controller to the console.

Another point for this solution. Make sure that flags and penalties are off. I had mine on and the AI driver got DQd after 158 laps. Not great to wale up to!

I did a Solo Quick Race Weekend, Lemans 24H, 125cc Shifter Kart, 240 laps.
1 opponent, Same Class, Opponent Skill = Beginner, Grid Position = Player First.
NO Damage, no Mechanical Failures, no Fuel Usage, no Flags & Penalties, no Tire Wear.

Remove the battery from your controller & plug in the mini USB cable.
Go to Dashboard, then Console Settings (press menu button quickly), scroll down to "Settings", then "Power & Startup", then "Turn Off After" & select "Don't turn off automatically",
then press B, & press B again to return to Dashboard.
Return to Project Cars.

MAKE SURE that Time Progression is set to Real Time.
CHECK Time Progression again just before you start the race because sometimes it turns itself off when you change other settings.

Start the Race & as soon as your Kart moves across the starting line, pause the game & select "Simulate Remainder Of Session", then Select "Player Onboard Camera" & press X to select the camera of your liking.
DO NOT pause the game for any reason, DO NOT go to the dashboard, just leave the game & console alone for about 24 hours & 27 minutes or so until the race is finished.
Make sure your console has adequate ventilation!
Enjoy! smile

I did this in career at one of the 24 hour Le Man invitations which I received in my LMP2 season.

Select the event and make sure that session length is set to 100% so that you have the full 24 hour race. I did a few laps and if you are familiar with the Le Man track there is a huge straight with two chicanes at the second chicane, I parked behind the second tyre wall out the way (if you have a safer place to park up then by all means feel free!) and left the game open till the 24 hours elapsed did a final lap which ends the race and the achievement will pop immediately.

Make sure that the console is set that it wont turn off when there is no activity for a long period of time, plug the pad in to the console and remove the batteries.

I had tried some of the other methods, however they did not work for me. For example the first time I did a few laps then pitted in and switched to AI driver (driver swap), I came back a few hours later to find the driver had managed to run out of fuel and the car was in the pit with the petrol light flashing, I left it for the full 24 hours to elapse but the race did not end as it should so it would appear quite buggy...

My second attempt was using the simulate rest of race function, I came back a few hours later and found the AI had smashed the car to bits and the car had been sent to the pits.

So I tried my hassle free version as you do not need to win the race, while it was going through the race I fired up my 360 and changed the channel and played Guitar Hero smile

Hope this helps and good luck !

So I absolutely could not get these other solutions to work for me in career mode. I followed everything, used different controllers, different cables, making sure batteries were out of my controller, even tried a different console and I couldn't get the game to not pause after 10 minutes in any race I had set up in single player. So my solution was to set up a race online, setting up a private match with another player (In an MP race if your contoller shuts off, the race doesn't pause). I set up a kart race on the Glencairn West track with a SuperKart, and set the event to public, event length to time and set the time to 1d 00h 00min (24 hours). Invite a friend to the race and start the race. Once the race starts your friend can hop out of the race so its just you. Now its just waiting for the race to end. At the end of the race, I did a quick lap around the track and once the timer is up, you will be on the final lap so just finish the lap and the achievement will pop after you finish.

make sure your xbox console is not on auto switch off and u have a usb cable connected to your controller and console go to quick race mode choose coyote noose circuit choose 1 lap make sure fuel usage is turned off and game is set to real time progresion choose 1 opponent choose any car u like. when the race starts cross the start finish line then reverse the car so its up against the wall and simply leave the console on for 24 hours eg if u started the race at 9 30 am then at 9 30 am the next morning when the timer on the screen says 1440 simply complete the lap and the achievement is yours.

Pick quick race and select a short track. Go to conditions and change laps to time and set time to 24 hours. Scroll down and put time progression on real. Ensure you have a Play & Charge Kit or Micro USB cord so your controller does not go off.

Begin and pull off the line. Come to a complete stand still and leave it for 24 hours. Come back after 24 hours and complete the lap and this should unlock.

0
0
Your first opportunity to complete a 24 hour race will be the LeMans 24H Endurance invitational event, which you will receive an invitation for after having finished on the podium 50 times in your career. The race itself appears on the 15th of December in your Career Calendar once it is available, so it is one of the very last events to complete before a season ends. Should you skip it, the event will always be available on the same date in future seasons for you to retry.

In terms of earning this trophy, before the race begins you will need to make sure that the Session Length slider is scrolled all the way to 100%. This means that the race will actually last 24 hours. You can skip the Practice and Qualifying Sessions if you like, as they are not required for the trophy. When it comes to vehicle selection, you will want to choose the RWD P30LMP1.

You can go about earning this trophy a few ways. The first of which is to drive the entire 24 hours yourself. You can implement the Playstation 4’s Rest Mode feature to effectively pause the race whenever you need a break so that you can do the race in incremental blocks if you like. Just make sure that in your Playstation’s Power Saving Settings, you have Suspend Applications turned On.

The second method is to drive around the track and park your car just before the finish line. Once 24 hours have passed, just drive over the line. The reason being that you do not have to actually win the race, but just need to complete it. Coming dead last will still get you the trophy, however you will not receive a Gold Accolade for doing this. Note: this method can actually be attempted in any race, not just the 24 hour races. As long as the clock reads over 24 hours (1440:00:00) when the race finishes, the trophy will still unlock. So feel free to park your car up before the finish line on a one lap race and wait 24 hours to cross the line if your wish to earn the trophy this way. Credit to VitaRG for discovering this.

Finally, you can take advantage of the A.I. After creating at least a 2 minute lead over second place, you can enter the pits and choose to Swap Driver. Doing this will result in an A.I. driver taking control of your car which will complete the race for you. They generally maintain the gap that you give them pretty well, so you will more than likely win the race and earn yourself a Gold Accolade in the process for doing barely any work.

Just be aware that you can encounter some bugs and errors while completing this race. There have been several reports of cars getting stuck in the pit lane with no way of getting out. If this happens to you, you will unfortunately have to restart the race as there is no known way to fix it. Also, seeing as your Playstation 4 will be on for at least 24 hours, make sure it is well ventilated to avoid any overheating issues.

Despite what the trophy description might lead you to believe, you do not need to stream any of the race.
