I'm at Season 6, still no achievement, anyways, you can see the requirements of each invitation in your Pilot Profile.

I confirm you will get this achievement during the Career main storyline, and it cannot be missed.
The number of Invitations sent out is not based on doing well in races. You get them when you have met the requirements - such as winning a specific Trophy or Cup.

This can be classed as 'story' related and should unlock in Season 3. If you are following the walkthrough this will come naturally.

Invitations are awarded for winning various races, as well as passing mileage and win milestones. There are 52 invitational events possible to receive so you will almost certainly earn this trophy without even trying while simply progressing through the game.
