I was able to earn this achievement after finishing mission 8 (Fortress of ADAN) on hard. I attained an S ranking on the mission and completed the 'Defeat Guilty Rose' and 'All Ships Survive' sub-objectives.
There appears to be some confusion about this achievement. I spent quite a bit of time trying to unlock it on mission 7, as suggested, but to no avail. I gave up and resigned myself to coming back around on an easier difficulty to try again. I then played mission 8 - and to my surprise, got the achievement without actually trying. :-)
The description - "Awarded for bravery beyond the call of duty during withdrawal of the allied fleet" - appears to have absolutely nothing to do with the achievement. After obtaining the achievement, the description changes to "Received for bravery during the enemy's attack on the Alberti System". This is still a bit of a misnomer as your fleet is on the offensive in this mission.

I got a D on easy and only completed the "all ships survived" subobjective. So it's most likely for that one only.

I played mission 8 on easy and recieved the achievement after completing 3 sub objectives and getting a c rating on the misson. I destroyed the Guilty Roses and and all ships survived. Im not entirely sure what the third sub-objective was.

According to the guide on x360a this should be gotten after beating mission 6 on any difficulty, but I got it after doing mission 7. I played the mission on easy, got a C ranking, completed 2/7 sub-objectives (all ships survived and Caliban didn't take damage).

Same. a360p's guide says it requires completing all submissions or an S rank. This is also wrong. Just beating 7 should be fine.

I've completed Stage 7 three times now - once on easy and twice on Hard - fulfilling those sub-objectives and getting S rating - No Achievement!

Clear mission 7 on any difficulty and you should get the achievements.
