Boosting method:
As this is a heavy RNG chievo the chances while low can be increased with the following custom match settings:
1. game length: 180 minutes
2. Global event timer: 3 minutes
3. survivors win on traitor death.
This means that every 3 minutes there is a global event which has a chance of spawning an escape pod, so run to it and escape.
AFTER ESCAPING KILL THE TRAITOR TO FINISH THE MATCH SINCE THE ESCAPE POD ANIMATION FOR ANY SUBSEQUENT PLAYERS WILL CRASH AND VOID THE CHIEVO.

How hard is it to find this in normal games? I've nearly finished every achievement and still have yet to find this one (I still have a few grindy ones but this hasn't popped once yet)

its all rng, on normal games the events comes in around 5-6 mins into the game and there are at least 5 events that I know of, the bunnys, the blizzard, airdrops, the randomizer and the airlift, there might be more but yeah you need a lot of luck.

RNG achievement alert.
There really is no 100% way to trigger the escape pod.
It can be done on custom games or on public. I found the frequency higher on public quick matches to be more on the favorable side. Plus, alot of the games I've been in people seem to not pay attention to when it pops up.
You can set a custom game to the max time limit and decrease global event timer but why do that and wait around being bored when you can have some fun.
When it does show up you will see an orange icon on the side of your screen similar to the escape vehicles icon.
When you get to the pod it will have a 30 sec timer for you to enter.
Now, when you take off, if you're lucky and a traitor hasn't sabotaged it, you will escape. If a traitor has sabotaged it, the pod will explode and achievement won't unlock.
I would say join a quick public match and work on any achievements you need, wait around 15-20 mins if it doesn't spawn then it probably won't.
Sorry, that's all I can give as I've waited dozens of matches for it to spawn. Some people are lucky and get it right away and for some this will be the last achievement you need in the game.
