First you have to be in an affiliation to change from it. And you have to be level 10 to join an affiliation. (Jakub1471SS says you have to be level 50+ to join the Diamonds.) THEN...

You can change affiliation when you defeat the boss of another affiliation you wish to join. Do this in the single player Underground.
Clubs = Alice 'The Beast' Basham in The Renegade bar.
Hearts = Italia 'The Godmother' Drago in The Kleaners laundromat.
Spades = Yuri "The Hammer" Volkov in Motherland Meats butcher shop.
Diamonds = Mazuchi "The Outlaw" Katsu in The Diamond Suite.

(click Spoiler for a decent strategy to beating AI opponents)

Once you beat the opposite boss, use the Persona menu

and the Affiliation option to change from your first affiliation to another one

using the

button to view choices again.

Ohhh, I hit level 10 when I beat the boss. That's what made me think it was the level. I'll change it and re-post it.

This still isn't right... You have to beat the boss of the affiliation you want to join. This may not be the first boss you beat. For instance, I'm in the Hearts. I beat the Heart boss but I cant join the other affiliation until I beat their boss...

Really should have researched this better before posting on here.

I changed from Hearts to Clubs, then immediately back to Hearts. I didn't lose any progress in Hearts.

I changed Affiliation when i reached Level 110. you do not lose your progress and continue from level current [In my case from 110]. I changed 4/5 times and NEVER lose progress .

Just a quick question on this: does changing affiliations have any effect on ranking up in your first affiliation? I wouldn't want to lose progress on that.

You should add this ^ to your guide. If you do not revert it to your previous affiliation, you will "lose" the level progression which will make the grind to rank 2 longer depending on when you changed it. I had to level up 9 more levels because of this.
