Mellowstone is the 4th area that you will unlock in the game

*There was no wiki when I wrote this so some of the specifics here are fuzzy but this solution should still work for you. Please leave more info in the comments if you can.

-You can unlock the Mellowstone area on the overworld map by completing the earlier areas Objectives which are viewed from the Main Menu. Leave the area when the Objectives are complete and return to complete more until the area is unlocked.

*It could be that completing certain objectives on a certain level will unlock Mellowstone. I am not sure.

Unlocking all of the times of day for a level
As far as I know you unlock all of the "Times of day" by completing more Objectives, confirmed in some cases. Certain levels seemed to have all of the times unlocked immediately and others didn't. If you are having trouble completing an objective, try going to another stage and making progress there, then come back.

-You can see if a certain time of day has Objectives by checking to see if it has an orange dot over the graphic you see when selecting the level from the map, and the orange dot will disappear once all are finished for that time of day. Complete all of the objectives for every unlocked time of day and the other times should unlock.

Taking the close up pictures
-Once all of the times of day are unlocked, get close to a dog (you can crouch to be sure) and take a close up picture of their face

-Do this for every time of day on the level, leaving the area via main menu after getting the picture

-TA user @nagameister says "Don't save or upload them just take one or 2 and leave the area, I sometimes crouched to get a close up to might help"

-After the last photo the achievement should pop almost immediately.

Is anyone having trouble with the “Three Dogs and the Moon” objective? It’s the last one I need to unlock the last time of day but I can’t find the three dogs.

@NerdyAndr3 - Here are the screenshots of where I got the challenge done on the Mellowstone level:

You need to pet some dogs to make them follow you to the back area near the fallen pine tree, then crouch and get a shot of them and a little bit of the moon if you can. It's possible!

Hopefully this unlocks the time slot for you. Some people are having difficulty getting new time slots to unlock.

Might be randomly assigned when you unlock it, but I completed the 'Theater Hat Trope' mission in the city (morning) and it unlocked; could've been for the mission or all morning completions there idk

Train to dreamland in muttropolis unlock mellowstone sunset for me.
Muttroplis foggy(1st icon) dog hidden in a tree unlocked mellowstone morning

The final lighthouse area opened with no notification when I finished all muttropolis quests. Quests show they are available with a little orange dot next to time of day.

im having trouble with Nature Explorer achievement have taken close ups in each time zone 100,s of times but the achievement staying stuck on 75% and no matter what i do it wont unlock any suggestions ?????

I was having trouble unlocking this. I was able to get all 4 times of day unlocked no problem but I was taking picture after picture and no achievement. The tracker said 75%. I tried not saving and leaving as nagmeister suggested, tried saving to just favorites, tried just uploading to net. Nothing. I changed the camera lens to the basic zoom, changed my film to Blueberry monochroma (neither of which matters I don't think) but then when I took the picture, I turned the camera so that the long section was up and down. After doing that in all 4 areas, the achievement popped. Just wanted to mention that for anyone else that was having the achievement look like it's stuck.

Tried all of Bilbo’s tactics and this did not unlock.
I’ll attempt restarting the game and unlocking all types of day naturally, as opposed to buying any from the vending machine. It’s the only possible difference I can think of that has prevented it from unlocking.

Okay, managed to unlock all areas of Mellowstone by completing objectives before setting foot in any of the times of day for this area.
Once all four times of day were unlocked, I went into foggy, checked the film shuffle setting on and exhausted fifteen photos switched to portrait mode for half.
Completed all four times of day in direct order in one shot and it unlocked for me.

I did notice when doing the other achievements for every time of day the closer to the dog you are the better. I would usually squat and move in as close as possible and had a lot fewer problems.

Bugged for me, I've tried everything except restarting this terrible game. I'm working on completing all the challenges now to see if it would help any but still no luck. Im pretty sure the last one I need is the night time one, and i've already taken 100s of photos in all times. This game drives me insane!

EDIT: Was able to finally unlock this last achievement by deleting the game off of my hard drive and starting a new game from the cloud. Took me less than 30 minutes just rushing to the city level and kept doing challenges until all 4 times unlocked for mellowstone then did a close up for all times. Still felt glitchy because no objectives completed from it but oh well i'm finally done!
