How to unlock the Kilopiece Colossus achievement in Puzzle Arcade - Definitive Guide

I completed a 1008 piece puzzle in 2 hrs 28 mins.

TwistedFate posted in the forums over on xbox360achievements.org on a very good way to get this achievement. You can find it here: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11...

I will however copy and paste it here to save you time.

Before you read below, make sure you pick Picture Puzzle, set it to expert, I used the Dream7 picture as it has 1008 pieces but you can use any puzzle as long as its over 1000 pieces, and I picked the last puzzle style, 4th to the right for setting up my puzzle.

Now for TwistedFate's method:
=================================
Close the Puzzle Preview window (Hit X until it goes away completely) You won't need to actually see the puzzle for this.

Create 3 piles. Corners, Edges and Middles. Make sure you rotate them at least once so they aren't at slightly off angles. Don't just drop the pieces in a random pile, stack them as neatly as you can on top of each other. It will take a little longer, but you will more than make up for that in a little bit. Also make sure you are near the middle of the screen with your piles so you have some room for the next steps.

Rotate the edges so that all of them have the edge facing the same place. Doesn't matter which direction, you just need them all facing the same way.

When you are done with your piles, grab a corner and set it down on the edge pile. The proper piece will snap onto it. Pick up the new piece and do it again, repeating and adding the other corners until you have the entire border built.

Now zoom all the way out. Then take your completed border and drop it on the inside pieces. Since you are zoomed all the way out the "hot zone" for autosnapping the pieces in is increased so you may pick up more than one piece at a time. (I got up to 7 pieces at at time) Go all around the border adding pieces by picking up and dropping the border on the pile. Once you have gone all the way around, rotate the border and repeat the process. Keep rotating the border every so often and you will have it done in no time.
=================================

With the Dream7 puzzle, it took me almost 2 hours to arrange the 3 piles. Make sure to stack the middle pile in the middle of the board. By the time I was done stacking, I had a nice oval going with some pieces that connected when I put them down. So it doesn't have to be perfect but just keep the pile stacking as neat as you can without expanding it too much.

Once I started connecting the middle pieces, I got down to about 24 pieces and just put them in place as it was easy enough to figure it out. I finished the last part up in about 30 minutes.

Yes, take all the middle pieces and stack them all on top of each other in the center of the board.

I was jsut doing this legit and it took me about 25 hours broken up in to little sessions here and there. I really enjoy putting this together, but ehen I got to the very last 75 pieces or so.. man I just wanted it done so I stacked them all on top like this solution and BAM done in a mater of minutes.. Great solution for those that don't want to bother with it.

I've already started mine and I'm well into it. Do you know if the piece shape matters? I'm using the standard jigsaw shape and would love to speed things up. Don't want to mess up what I have sorted already if it won't work with this shape. Does anyone know.

I think when I did it I used the standard shape.

Cool, I've got about 370 pieces left.....all white and wood pieces on the colored pencils. If it works, this will come in handy for piecing together the same colored pieces.

forgot I never upvoted this. took me a little while...about 3 hours...but got it done with this method. Brilliant. Last played in March 2011 with 3 achievements to go. Saw this solution and decided it was time to finish up...2 years later

That's a very clever method, and it definitely works. Took a little over 3 hours for me, as well. For anyone wondering, I used the standard pieces (mostly because I forgot to change it :P). Good find. +1

Took me a little over 5.5 hours. Learned a thing about halfway through where you can use the dpad to move the cursor faster!

Got it done in exactly 2hr 28, same as the guide writer haha. Although I used square pieces and only one pile in the middle.

for this i recommend the "Flowers and Bugs" puzzle. i think it's easiest because it is split up into 9 different segments. separate the inside pieces from the border, and once the border is completed, go thru and split everything into colors (hot pink, yellow, etc). it still took me a while, but i started several different puzzles and thought this was the easiest one.

You missed on the name of the puzzle a little. I was confused a little so I thought I would correct ya a little. The puzzle is called "Flowers and Bugs" by Louise Docker. Good puzzle to get this achievement with though!

I did the Colored Pencils puzzle. Wasn't too bad cuz you could separate the colors for each pencil, but at the end, was left with about 100 pieces that were all white...so finishing up that part at the end was quite tedious and took a lot of trial and error. Took me about 13 hours to finish and I'm pretty decent at puzzles.

somewhat funny story...that's the one originally tried this achievement on, but i had it on the lowest difficulty setting.

so basically, i wasted several hours on the incorrect level. but i DID enjoy that puzzle the first time i did it

Haha nice...yeah, I had that fear too...that I somehow had the settings wrong...was very relieved when the achievement actually did pop when I was done. I love doing puzzles in real life, but trying to move/rotate/flip pieces in this game was just too cumbersome, so I probably won't be playing it again once I get my last achievement.

exactly, it's a nice concept but there seem to just be a few minor kinks in the game that make it frustrating at random

I would have to say coloured pencils is best, easy to sort pieces out.

I thought the Sci-Fi poster was the easiest due to the amount of text

Ya I didn't do it any fancy way, just normal puzzling and it took me 14 hours. I would highly suggest reading the solution before doing what I did. Ya I enjoyed it but to cut out 12 hours would have been nice.

I definitely not suggest the pencils because everything is just color and no symbols/figures. But that's me. I regret my choice now. A bit too late. And I am good at puzzles. But I am good with symbols etc. I think the solution suggest a very good choice.

From the Main Menu select Single Player, then Picture Puzzles. You're going to want to choose a puzzle that has as close to 1,000 pieces as possible. Stay away from puzzles that have large amounts of the same color (white, sky, water, walls)

Here is a list of Puzzles and their piece count:

Albion Brand Oranges Vintage Label: 1054
Amazing Stories - June 1940: 1120
Art Forms in Nature: 1160
Aurora Borealis, Alaska, US: 1107
Band of Brothers: 1140
Big Train, Tittle Train: 1036
Circuit Board: 1014
Classic Car: 1036
Color Tiles: 1036
Colored Pencils: 1014
Downtown Toronto: 1014
Dream7: 1008
Dynamic Stillness II: 792
Flowers and Bugs: 1044
Fresh Vegetables: 1014
Give a Hoot: 1085
Kids on the Grass: 1014
Lara Croft: 1216
Leadenhall Market - London, England: 1148
Leaf Mosaic: 1014
Lift Off: 1025
Lines and Shapes: 1014
Many of Them: 1102
Mom and Her Foal: 1014
Pixeltown: 616
Playground: 1008
Puppies in a Basket: 1014
Quad Bike Racing: 1054
Regenerating: 1024
Seasons: 784
Sleeping Cat: 1148
Stamp Collection: 1014
Sugerloaf Sunset: 1148
The Battle of Colors: 1092
The Black Sea: 1078
The Colosseum in Rome, Italy: 1107
Toledo, Spain: 1012
Waiting for the Bus: 1014
Watch Gears: 1014
I would recommend Amazing Stories - June 1940 because of all the text and variations in colors, even though it has 120 more pieces than needed.

Once you've decided your puzzle choose these settings:

Construction Mode - Classic
Experience Level - Expert
Number of Pieces - (lowest amount passed 1000)
Piece Shape - (fourth option to the right)

When you start your puzzle on expert you'll notice that half of them are turned upside-down and white, simply choose all the white puzzle pieces and press to flip them over.
