How to unlock the Forgemaster achievement in Puzzle Quest 3 - Definitive Guide
---Update March 2024---
The requirements for this achievement have changed, as gear levelling has been reworked. You now need to get a Battle Scroll to Level 50 instead of a gear item. This increases the resource requirements significantly. The advice in the solution should still apply, but the number of glyphs required is now much higher. The one crumb of good news is that relics are no longer needed. The fastest route is now weapon glyphs, not accessory glyphs.
From scratch, starting with a level 1 hero, the resource requirements are now:
Offense scroll: 30,576 gold, 27,936 weapon shards, 32 weapon glyphs
Defense scroll: 91,728 gold, 83,808 armor shards, 95 armor glyphs
Utility scroll: 61,152 gold, 55,872 accessory shards, 63 accessory glyphs.
To upgrade a scroll to 50 you need a level 50 hero. If you already had a level 50 hero before the update to 3.0, you probably have scrolls at level 45 after the changes. This reduces the glyph requirement by a third.
------
This will be the last achievement you get, and its not even close. With that in mind, the requirements for this achievement should inform your approach to the rest of the game. In other words, from the very start:
HOARD YOUR GEMS
Some of the required items are very rare drops, so it is much simpler to buy most of them with gems. As a F2P game with microtransactions, the game encourages you to spend gems at every turn. Resist non-essential gem spend as much as possible, and you will probably complete the game more quickly. The exceptions I'd make to this are when you hit the progression bottlenecks at gear level 25 and 35. At this point anything that levels your weapon is worth doing.
Its also worth maintaining a stockpile of keys and loot tickets for reasons I will detail later. Playing the game a lot in your first month when you get a free month of the premium+ pass helps a lot with this.
-----------
To get an item to level 50 you will need the following
Starting from level 1
1 to 15 288 shards 1428 gold
Rare evolution - 2 rare rune 1 rare relic
15 to 25 - 1000 shards, 2460 gold
Epic evolution - 3 epic runes, 2 epic relics.
25 to 35 - 2960 shards, 3660 gold
Legendary evolution - 4 legendary runes, 3 legendary relics, 2 glyphs.
35 to 45 - 5880 shards, 4860 gold
Mythic evolution - 4 mythic runes, 4 mythic relics, 4 glyphs
45 to 50 - 3840 shards, 2880 gold, 10 glyphs
Those requirements are maximums. In practice you will get item drops at higher levels, so you will not need quite as much.
The rarest items are glyphs and mythic relics. The glyphs are divided into item types (weapon, armor or accessory for gear, plus there are also minion and spell glyphs). We need 14 of the same type. The most efficient route is upgrading an accessory to level 50. Why? Because they are cheaper in the shop. Once you are about level 40 glyphs appear in the shop on a weekly rotation. Accessory glyphs are 1125 gems, half the price of weapon glyphs at 2250 gems. By the time you are a high enough level you hopefully have a big enough gem stockpile to buy an accessory glyph from the shop every Wednesday. Then a maximum of 14 weeks later you should have everything you need.
There is also an option to buy a random glyph from the shop for 30,000 gold. This is limited to one purchase a week. Get lucky (a 1 in 5 chance each time) and this can remove a couple of weeks from the wait.
Gold and shards are in every type of chest, making them simple to grind.
-------------
Relics
You need several types of relics to fully upgrade an item. Rare and epic relics are easy to obtain from things like daily challenges and by the endgame you will probably have lots of them. Legendary relics drop a lot less. If you are short of them, the best route is gaining honor by playing PVP. Legendary relics are in the honor shop for 1800 honor.
Then there are the mythic relics. Each gear set has its own relic associated with it. It takes 4 of them to ascend gear to mythic. They drop at a very low rate in the dungeon for that gear set.
Remember I mentioned hoarding keys and loot tickets? This is why. The higher the chest level, the more likely a relic is. By saving tickets and keys until now, you can use them to open lots of high level dungeon chests in the hope of getting relics. The chest level is set by the highest difficulty you have beaten. If you have some high level friends, or fellow kingdom members, getting them to carry you in co-op will help access higher level chests - if you beat a difficulty level in co-op it is unlocked in solo too.
Sometimes you get relics in Adventure mode as rewards or to purchase from the merchant. They seem to be relics associated with seasonal content. This gives a great headstart.
Seasonal content also has its own currency. Buying the highest level reward in the shop for 200 season currency can also drop relics, at a seemingly decent rate. Grinding out ancient coins for old seasons is useful for this purpose. This is the best use for skirmish loot tickets. Skirmish tickets can't drop runes or relics, but when used on archived seasons you get bonus ancient coins, which do give you a shot at relics.
‐--------------
Getting 4 of the same relic:
Between Dungeons, adventures, and season currency you will probably end up with a grab bag of random relics instead of the 4 identical ones you need. They can be converted using the followet Eveline. She needs to be level 40 to convert relics. The craft recipe is
Any 2 level IV relics + 5000 gold + 1500 ore = level IV relic of your choice.
You cannot craft seasonal relics, but you can use them as crafting material.
By the time you have your relics, you should have opened more than enough chests to meet the rune requirements too.
-------------
If you are short on gems
Creating extra characters with different classes to your main is a good source of gems. The campaign and follower side quests become available again, adding up to about 4000 gems per class available in total. Your extra characters can use your existing gear so can one shot low level enemies.
In terms of day to day activities, challenges and PVP events are good sources of gems.
‐------------
The P2W method:
Sometimes there is a (very expensive) flash offer for a level 50 weapon, which means the achievement can be unlocked for $$$. At the time of writing this has only happened once, but will surely happen again for those with money to burn who want to escape the grind.

Utility scrolls needed: 63 * 1125 (cost in gems) = 70,875 total gems needed
Defense scrolls needed: 95 * 1688 (cost in gems) = 160,360 total gems needed
Offensive scrolls needed: 32 * 2250 (cost in gems) = 72,000 total gems needed
So if you're a brand new player Utility scrolls are the cheapest way to go. However, I agree with OP and think you should go for Offensive scrolls if you can because you can get done with it so much faster but you need to average over 320 gems a day so that does require more dedicated playing. Another reason to go for the offensive scrolls is because you an buy one random scroll a week for 30,000 coins. If you can get lucky and pull a couple of those that can really reduce the time your grinding this game out.
*** Just a note, I've poked my head into the forums for this game and I do expect things to change. Nobody likes the new system and a lot of things don't make sense like why the defensive scrolls are so awful to upgrade. The devs have already said changes will be coming but nobody knows when. Maybe, in a couple months all this information might be useless again.

excellent guide. I did not even know some of the things you mention here

To get a gear item to level 50 you need a character at level 50. You can only level an item as high as your character is. Weapons, Accessories (Sheild, Rings, Pendants and Belts) and Arnour should all work fine.
There's a chance to get given an item at level 50 but I wouldn't rely on it.
You're going to need a lot of runes, Glyphs, Relics, Gold as well as the armour shards to get an item this high. In addition, you'll need specific Elemental items depending on the element of the gear you're levelling, Glyphs are specific to the gear type and each collection has its own Mythic Relics.
Roughly 15000 Gold and Shards each.
Common 1-5 (1 Uncommon Rune)
Uncommon 6-15 (2 Rare Runes, 1 Rare Relic)
Rare 15-25 (3 Epic Elemental Rune, 2 Epic Relics)
Epic 26- 35 (4 Legendary Elemental Runes, 3 Legendary Relics, 2 Glyphs)
Legendary 36-45 (4 Mythic Elemental Relics, 4 Glyphs, 4 Collection Relics)
Mythic 46+
The item will need to be Mythic rarity, either naturally or evolved to that. Good luck with the grind.
Luckily this grind is made easier as you level as you'll drop higher level and higher rarity items as yourself get higher.

Unfortunately I only recently started this game and I'm only level 18. So that's as high as any of my scrolls would go. 2 were level 16 and 1 was level 17, as none of my gear was level 18 yet. All 3 are 18 now, but. to get each one up the 32 levels needed, first I need to get to my hero to level 50, but I will also need:
Offense Scroll - 26,496 gold, 26,928 weapon shards, and 32 weapon glyphs
Utility Scroll - 52,992 gold, 53,856 accessory shards, and 63 accessory glyphs
Defense Scroll - 79,488 gold, 80,784 armor shards, and 95 armor glyphs
I currently have 1 weapon glyph, not sure what I got it from either.

Going to re-type my comment with factual info since editing did not seem to work:
Something I wanted to note, glyphs will likely be the bottleneck for getting items to level 50. As shown in an in-game tooltip, there is a small chance for them to drop from gold or better chests that are at least level 30. Community best guesses are at it being around 0.1%. Also one can be bought from the shop per day for each type with gems and some extra with crowns i.e $$$. Its Monday - Weapon, Tuesday - Accessory, Wednesday - Spell, Thursday - Minion, Friday - Armour.
Dragon defence in the kingdom menu also provides around a 3% chance for a random glyph should you reach the damage threshold. Finally, one other way I have encountered to receive gylphs is through the adventure battles that happen from time to time. A merchant within the adventure may or may not sell glyphs of some variety.
This is I'll I've found so far, good luck!!

Get any gear item (weapon, accessory, shield etc) to LV50.
You know the deal, just simply upgrade the item to LV50 and this is it.
Problem with this is, you need a lot of stuff (gold, glyphs, runes). This is "simple", but takes a lot of time to grind. As Nomstuff said (in guide 1), there is a lot of thigs to collect, still you can skip some of it and make it a bit faster, but not so much really...
As I notice:
beat the story mode. Once you will complete the story mode, you will get an item.
I complete the story mode 3 times so far, and always I get the same item:
- BLOODFANG SHIELD (LEGENDARY) LV30
You can upgrade this item to LV45 by GOLD and ACCESSORY SHARD,
skipping all the "runes" stuff, and even "save up" 2 glyphs (since you will not need them to LV up on 35).
Also, ACCESSORY GLYPHS as I notice have the lowest price in the shop.
But still you will need to collect GLYPS for LV45, 46 ... 50 (and this takes time),
as well as RELIC (in this case: BLOODFANG RELIC x 4)
So, basic questions that will help you:
Q#1: How to get GLYPHS?
A#1: Buy them in SHOP. You can buy them by real money (pay to win, sure...) or by GEMS. Focus on 1 GLYPH, my advice: ACCESSORY one. Each day, you will notice in the shop different glyph, so, once per week I believe you will be able to get it.
You can collect GLYPHS in ADVENTURE, if you are lucky, some merchant might have it on sale.
There is also possible to get GLYPHS from chests... yeah... well I believe you will faster buying them with GEMS rather than collect from chests.
Q#2: Can I buy GLYPHS with gold?
A#2: GLYPH that you are interested in? No. Glyphs you can buy in shop, paying with GEMS (as I believe in adventure, merchants also will give it to you if you pay by GEMS). But! In shop every week, there is RANDOM GLYPH for 30 000 GOLD, so you might want to give it a shot since it is not that much...
Q#3: How to get more GEMS?
A#3: GEMS you will earn by completing various tasks, and you will not get them much.
- Log in each day, you will get 10 GEMS (go to shop for free bundle).
- Connect with some kingdom, fight with the dragon; if your kingdom will win, you will get 50, if not then 5.
- If someone will buy gifts from the kingdom, you will get 50 gems.
- Complete story mode, for each fight you will get a 25 GEMS, and for finishing chapter 50 GEMS.
- Complete quests of your followers, you will also get 25-50 gems
- Complete various quests like LV hero to LV10, 20, LV gears, LV followers etc. for the list just go to the TAVERN and take a look at GOALS, you will get the point.
Some another tips:
- If You had completed story mode, and quests, etc., just make a new hero and do the same (again story mode, followers quests etc.) this way you will get more GEMS, and it is easier with each new hero since you are starting with your gear that you have collected so far, just equip your best stuff and go (you will notice that each battle will be "easy lemon squizze")
- LV up followers:
* AURI (LV25 - bigger better); so you can have more gold, and buy random GLYPHS in shop
* NORTHELM (LV25 - bigger better); so you can collect more stuff in your inventory
* EVELINE (LV45); so you can exchange relics with her, and here again you will need GEMS for that. I would not bet relics to pop out from chests you know, it will be faster to collect gems, let EVELINE exchange LV3 relics (that look like a yellow dragon) into some other random item relics. Then if you have 2 relics, you can exchange with her to a relic that you need (this case BLOODFANG RELIC)
- CHESTS:
Go each day for a battle, quest, or something, so you can collect CHESTS. Do not waste time on the wood, iron, blue chest, you have the key for them OK, good, do not have key: then throw it away, do not waste space... Aim for RUBY (red chest), and DIAMOND one. If possible, collect only DIAMOND ones, let your minions open it.
- Double items, spells, minions:
If you do not have any reason to keep them, SALVAGE them so you will get shards and gold instead.
Not sure if I had miss something, but yes,
it takes time, a lot of grind.
Summary: Complete story mode, get LEGENDARY item, and focus on that item to upgrade it to LV50.
Sorry for long post, hope my tips will help.

Thanks for the tip about the Bloodfang Shield at the end of the campaign. That really helps for planning in advance before you even get to the endgame.

The level you can increase your gear to is directly linked to your player level, so you won't be able to get this until you've also unlocked High and Mighty (100G). As you level and work through the story you'll get equipment near your own level, so don't spend too much on leveling up existing gear unless you're hard stuck on a story quest and aren't having luck getting new equipment from chests. This game is one of patience, so sometimes it is better to earn a gold or diamond chest and simply wait a day for it to unlock to see what you get rather than grinding a ton of battles for materials to level up existing gear. Regardless, once you get to Level 50 you'll be able to also increase a piece of gear to Level 50 for this achievement.
You'll need plenty of gold, equipment shards, and unique items (glyphs, runes, and relics) for this process - I won't go over how to obtain every single one as the game does a good job of allowing you to click on the item you need and then it shows any possible way to obtain it. Just follow the story to complete it and then target the different game types. You can of course spend real money to purchase bundles for upgrading certain things, but that's up to you.
Update: As of April 2, 2024, the requirement for this achievement changed, but only slightly. There was a large gear rework introduced with Season 3.0 and rather than upgrading individual pieces of equipment, there are now "Battle Scrolls" for defense, offense, and utility. If you already had achievement it will obviously stay unlocked, but if you were working toward it, your grind likely got longer. While this gear rework has simplified the process and allows all gear to share the same power boosts, the number of items required to get a scroll to Level 50 significantly increased over what a single item may have required. Regardless, the process remains the same as above.

The longest and most tedious trophy in the game.
I’ll write some tips on how to speed up receiving it:
1) Crystals (blue) - the most important resource for this trophy. Because Symbols are bought for them.
Therefore, during the first playthrough of the story campaign by each class (there are 7 of them in total), there is no need to spend Crystals left and right - save them for future use or buy the necessary symbols in advance once a week. You have to buy slots for new classes, of course!
2) When we have more or less decided on the class of the main character and have compiled a decent build, we will need to decide which item we will upgrade to level 50:
- The quality of weapons and spells is the longest way. And it is mainly for hardcore players who want to continue playing after Platinum. Because the Symbols for them cost 2250 crystals. The Weapon symbol is sold on Mondays. In a week of active play, it is quite possible to gain one such Symbol, even when you have already completed the main campaign with all classes, and the crystals are not flowing like a river
- Armor. If you love local multiplayer and go through all 3 Tournaments (Open, Limited and Elite), then it would be better to download it until the 50th. I myself received Platinum by upgrading an armor item by 50.
The Armor symbol sells for 1,700 crystals on Tuesdays.
And if you have accumulated 2000 Honor in Tournaments, you can buy another Armor Symbol once a week.
Two Symbols per week is much better than one. That is why for active multiplayer fighters getting this trophy on Armor is preferable.
- Accessories. One Accessory Symbol is sold in the store one day a week for 1125 crystals. A good way for not very active players who still want to get Platinum. It’s especially convenient if you farmed a ton of crystals for completing the story in 7th grade, but didn’t buy seasons. However, keep in mind that only 1 symbol is sold per week...
3) For Mythic Relics required for Mythic Evolution at level 45:
- You need to level up Evelina to level 45, using Evelina’s Crystals and bread. She will be able (for a decent amount of Crystals) to produce random Mythical Relics from Legendary ones.
- She will be able to combine two random Mythical Relics and make one of them, but exactly the one we need for the evolution of our item.
4) Where can you farm Crystals to buy Symbols:
- Complete the campaign and companion side missions with all 7 classes.
- Rewards for daily Challenges often include Crystals
- Don’t be lazy to jump around the kingdoms, join the one that is higher in the ranking and has more people. Since for defeating the daily Dragon, everyone is given a decent amount of Crystals.
Also at the bazaar, as a reward for general purchases, they give everyone 400 krist.
- Crystals are given for completing Adventures, for three-day Dungeons (not enough), based on the results of weekly Tournaments, as a reward for daily entry (once a week), for completing Subscription tasks, for various temporary events and 10 - daily freebies in the store.
5) One random Symbol can be bought in the store on Sundays for 30,000 gold. There is really only a 20% chance that we will get exactly the one we need. But there is always a lot of gold in the game (sometimes you don’t even know where to put it), I think it’s worth playing this lottery!

At the moment, the game is being actively updated and the fastest way to upgrade, scroll, and not armor as it was before the update, is to ferociously farm weapon symbols at the first stage of the game, since the least amount of them is needed. You can buy them in the store for crystals 1 time per week for 2x tail + 1 time per week randomly knocking out in the store for 30k gold coins, what an adventure. There are also exceptions, such as pushing developers, anniversaries or short events with simple conditions. Now you don’t need to upgrade your armor to 50) although I don’t even know what’s better, it just doesn’t make any difference to beginners, but players like me who are close to platinum were, so to speak, very hurt by the Update. In general, in total, it’s realistic to farm 2 pieces a week, well, if you’re lucky, even 3-4, but don’t really count on it)
