How to unlock the Beam Me Up! achievement in R-Type Dimensions - Definitive Guide

Credits goes to Aphrodite1 on xbox360achievements forum.

Here's a list of guidelines for this achievement :

1) Play it on R Type-1 as there are some issues wrt the Beam in R-Type 2.

2) Pick up the force pod before entering the base to soak up enemy bullets and to use as a battering ram to clear enemies out of the way (useful for between checkpoint 1 and 2 in the enemy base).

3) Do not pick up any other powerups for the force pod.

4) Do not pick up the shield powerup.

5) You can pick up the speed up powerup.

6) Make sure that every beam shot fired is 100% fully powered up.

7) The initial single shot that is fired when charging the beam up does not affect the achievement if it hits an enemy.

8) If you mess up do not press START and restart level. Instead quit to main menu and restart the game

If you follow strictly all of this guidelines and play in a CLASSIC mode, the achievement will unlocked as soon as the boss is killed.

In the video the player pick up a shield powerup near the end of the level, and the achievement is still unlocked. Maybe just the weapon powerups are forbidden?

Ok, just got this after MANY attempts.

Here are some of my notes on the above guidelines:

1) Other than the force pod, the speed up and bit are okay to pick up and use.

2) The initial shot before the charge DOES seem to affect the achievement. Shoot it into a wall or space.

3) And DO NOT restart the level from the pause menu. Go back to the main menu.

You can get the shield and still get the achievement, it shows it in that video and i just got it.

As for the initial shot its a bit confusing i had to do the level twice before the achievement unlocked but i'm fairly certain the second time i hit some enemies with the inital shot, but might not have destroyed them with it.

i only got the first power up in the video and killed 3 enemies with my single shot and still got the achievement.

I recommend not getting the 2nd powerup, it worked for me

You can get the speed up and the shield but don't pick up any power ups that add different weapons or firing modes to the ship. Which makes sense, once the ship is firing lasers or guided rockets you are no longer using full beam shots only.
I don't think getting kills with the intial single shot when going to charge up the beam hurts anything either.

Not as difficult as it sounds...

Tips:
1.Choose R-Type because its first stage is easier.
2.*Important*Make sure that your charged shots are *fully* charged before you shoot them- anything less will void the trophy.
3.Another thing you can do to make this much easier is grab the very first power up in the stage to get the Force- use this to block bullets and to ram into enemies to kill them which helps tremendously.
4. During the boss battle, keep the Force attached to your ship and after you release a fully charged shot into the weak point, move towards the top of the screen to shoot one bullet into the boss' head and hold to recharge (doesnt count against the trophy), let it charge, then center yourself back down inline to the weak spot and let it go. Its tempting to shoot the force into the boss' weak point but if do that, every time you charge a shot the Force will shoot one regular bullet into the boss, voiding the trophy.

Hope this helps.

I found this easiest on R-Type. You can only kill enemies using charged shots. Be careful when charging as when you press the button a single normal shot will fire, if this shot kills something then you will need to restart:

This is an incredibly difficult achievement to obtain, there is little advice I can give except try to memorize the stage, try to get into the habit of catching large groups of enemies with your full beam shots as well.

This might take a few hundred tries but it's not impossible.

A couple of things you can do to make it easier on yourself is to hit enemies with the shot you fire when starting to charge the beam shot, and pickup the orange pod and use it to block bullets and plow through enemies.

The boss should be one of the easier parts of the stage, simple charge up a shot and move in when his tail goes down then move up again to avoid the curving projectile he uses.
