How to unlock the Montgolfier achievement in Race The Sun - Definitive Guide
So, not an easy achievement by any means, but I would say it's more doable than the ratio might suggest, provided that you have a couple of powerups unlocked - the magnet and the jump storage.
You'll need to do a couple of quick runs through the first 1-2 regions of whatever the map of the day is to scout out the ramps, but generally try to stick to a similar, fairly central path to make it easy to rememeber.
You should be able to get this without needing a super long run (I think it popped early in region 4 for me, after getting most of them by the end of region 2).
For ones on platforms (the long thin pathways), use the ramp, land on the platform, and then drop off to the side just before you get to the tris, and the magnet should help you to pick them up anyway, and as you're no longer on the platform they'll count as "in-air". Another way is to avoid the ramp entirely, go near to the part of the platform that has the tris, and then use a jump to pick them up just as you lift into the air (provided you have a spare jump at that point of course).
Key notes:
1) Look for any kind of ramps - these always lead to tris that can be counted as in-air if done as explained above
2) Unsurprisingly, hunt down those jump pickups, especially if you have the upgraded jump storage that allows 3 rather than 3 to be stored
3) Using a jump at the end region section (where the bird thing drops a bunch of tris) is an easy way to get at least 4 in-air tris - if you do it for the second group of four you shouldn't miss out on anything, especially as you can get the bonus pickup just by being directly above it
4) The "fork" platforms (ramp, followed by platform, before it splits off into two platforms) are also an easy target as per instructions before the key notes.
If you follow these tips it shouldn't be too much of a struggle - I am max level so have the upgraded magnet and jump storage (as well as using the sharp turn upgrade), but I did manage to get 32 in 1 run within about 5 minutes of giving this a go! Good luck getting 50 though...that might be a bit tougher to say the least!
