How to unlock the Mata Hari Manners achievement in RAGE 2 - Definitive Guide
If you don't know what spy drones look like, hit , go to the Projects tab, select "Search & Recover" (which you might need to unlock first), hit , then highlight the 2nd perk of the 3rd tier; "Spy-Drone Tracking". This is the most important perk when going for this achievement, and the perk-related video shows you exactly what spy drones look like.
I found spy drones at any kind of location: bandit dens, arks, pit stops, exploration spots, repowering stations. They're always outside, usually (not always) several meters above the ground, and upon aiming at a spy drone, its blue light turns red, and then it flies away. I used the assault rifle to take them out. Also, you can hear them when you are close to them; they make a whirring sound. Therefore, I would clear a location of possible enemies, search for items indicated on my compass, and as soon as I heard/spotted a spy drone, I would save the game. If you can't destroy one before it flies away, just reload your most recent save.
Now, the big "mistake" I had made prior to going for this achievement, which later made searching for the spy drones a time-consuming nightmare, was purchasing the perks "Embedded-Feltrite Tracking", "Storage-Container Tracking" & "Ark-Chest Tracking" pretty early on in the game (with some of them being mandatory purchases if you want to unlock the tracking for spy drones). The non-mandatory purchases turned out to have been a serious mistake, as all items use the same signal-strength indicator on the compass.
I don't know how many spy drones there are in Rage 2, but upon finding my final one and unlocking this achievement, I had visited every single location on the map and I literally had no idea where else I could search. The highest spy-drone log I unlocked for destroying a drone was #0034, meaning there could be 34+ drones in the game.
You can check how many drones you've found by hitting > Log > Info > Lore > Spy Drones.
Edit May 16th, 2019: I found a YouTube video uploaded by PS4Trophies a few hours ago, which provides further assistance. According to this video, the drones spawn randomized.
Edit August 29th, 2019: Upon replaying this game months after its release, I noticed the devs recently implemented several improvements in order to make obtaining this achievement way easier. Players are now able to see collectibles by holding down , and even the signal-strength indicator has been patched to now show what collectible you are looking for, making this solution near-redundant. I'm not removing it, though. It will stay as a reminder on how annoying and time-consuming this achievement was pre-patch. 😂
Adding to other solutions, the PowerPyx guide has been absolutely invaluable (see below). It lists 88 potential locations for the spy drones with screenshots. I recommend checking the locations against those completed on your map and taking your Icarus to those found to be incomplete or undiscovered. Your Icarus can travel in a straight path, saving you a substantial amount of time.
BE SURE TO SAVE ON ARRIVAL. Check the local screenshot and if possible go in after the drone first and hit it with a direct single shot from your rocket launcher. One shot, one kill. Note, the drones can zip off in battle and it's easy to not hear or see them do it depending on their location.
Hope this helps!

I unlocked my achievement early into the fourth of six regions, despite failing to destroy multiple drones and clearing a significant amount of locations. There's still hope for you if you were in my boat.
Big thanks to Skate 323 for linking the page in the comments.
My achievement popped at 27 drones located. I'd searched for the final drone as I only had 3-4 locations left.
One suggestion for those using the guide: I strongly recommend getting a map of each location and marking all locations the PowerPyx guide has drones for … they creating your own ordering for how you visit them. The order listed in the PowerPyx guide seem random and will have you visiting opposite ends of the map on subsequent searches … and then have you go right back to a location very near where you had been. It made an otherwise excellent guide a bit less fun to use.
As you may have heard from around the internet, this achievement is terrible because of how ridiculously random it is. Because of this, unfortunately this won’t be a collectibles guide, but more of a tips and tricks video.
Now, while they do spawn randomly, there are a few rules it looks like they need to adhere to:
- They have to be at a location. They won’t just randomly be on some rock in the wasteland.
- They will never be inside buildings or underground.
- And from what I’ve been able to gather, they can’t be at:
- trade towns
- Mutant Bash TV
- the Chazcar racetrack
- authority sentries
- bounties
- feltrite meteors
But they can appear anywhere else, even the locations of interest with the white icon on the map.
Here's a couple things that should help you find these drones. First and foremost, they make a pulsating noise when you get close to them. If you look at them for a couple seconds they will fly away. For that reason I would suggest using the rocket launcher so nothing is left to chance, but if they do still manage to fly off, save your game immediately, and load that save. This will load you in right in front of whatever place you found the drone at, and it will be right back where it was before it left.
There is also a skill in the search and recovery project tree that will show a signal tracker that hones in on spy drones from much further away than their sound cue can be heard. You will have to also unlock the signal tracker skills for data pads and storage containers before you can get the drone skill, and all of these will be shown through the same proximity meter. For this reason, I wouldn’t suggest getting the feltrite sensor skill, because feltrite is also often on walls and has a blue glow, so it can get your hopes up pretty often. Plus it’s one more signal to track which slows down the whole process.
The last thing is that the the Icarus is instrumental in speeding up the process of tracking down drones. You unlock this by getting Dr Kvasir to level 7, which you can accomplish by doing fallen rangers, arks, feltrite meteors, and data pads.
This one took me about 5 hours, so be ready for a grind.
Also if you let one get away quickly reload your quick save to make sure you don't miss it. It seems from my experience if you let too many get away it could mean you would need to start a new game. Now I did this and only needed one more. I got it one the new game and it worked. So the starts track from game to game which is good. You can see how many you have when going into the logs info. The stats also seem off, so don't go off it entirely. Once you get that 30th the achievement will pop.

I would recommend saving the game, then loading from save. Once done, you can then travel from location to location on the map rather the advice to just explore the whole map which will take you several hours.
Spy Drones are collectibles that appear at random locations in the world and will fly away as soon as you spot them but each has 3 possible spawning locations, thus making this trophy a pain to get.
First, you will want to unlock the perk Spy Drone Tracking. Which is found in the Search & Recover section of the Projects menu. All the tracking perks are very good and should be unlocked as soon as possible. These will direct you to you target but before you go near it. Save your game just in case, because they will fly off as soon as you aim at them and disappear to the next location. If you do miss it, reload and try again. With the perk and careful tracking at every location you visit afterwards, this is highly achievable but if you are struggling, here is an awesome guide written by PowerPyx with 97 different locations to look at: LINK

The Spy Drones will be present in locations throughout the map and unfortunately, their appearance is completely randomised so a guide for where to find them is useless. First, you will want to unlock a perk, 'Spy Drone Tracking' found in the 'Search & Recover' section of the Projects menu, you will need to purchase either 'Storage Container Tracking' OR 'Datapad Tracking' first as well as unlock tier 3 of these projects. It is important that you don't purchase all of the tracking perks, since you will need to use this tracking to find the Spy Drones and the tracking does not differentiate between what it tracks, so the less your trackers is finding, the better.
Now begins the arduous task of finding 30 Spy Drones. There is no easy or fast way to do this, you will simply need to visit each and every location on the map, see if there is a Spy Drone present, destroy it if there is, then move onto the next location and repeat this until you have found 30. There are thought to be only 34 in the game, which combined with their random chance to spawn in any given location means you will likely need to check almost every single location on the map to get 30.
It is strongly recommended that you make a save before entering a location in case the Spy Drone sees you and flies away, the Spy Drone will see you if you look at it directly for a second or so. It is unknown where they go to, if they come back or if they are gone forever when they fly away so to be safe, make a save before entering a location then head in to find them, then if one of them does fly away, just reload your save to spawn outside the same location and try again to destroy it. I found using the Rocket Launcher was the best approach as it destroys them instantly and you only need to hit somewhere near it to cause enough splash damage to destroy it.

Possible locations marked on the map by me. Confirmed spawns are marked in red, unconfirmed spawns are marked in blue.
— Each drone has several possible spawn points. At the moment, more than 80 drone spawn points are known. If you don't find a drone in one of the locations described in the guide, this is most likely how it should be.
— Drones never appear inside buildings (including underground locations, although they may appear in front of them) or near government towers. It is quite possible that in fact drones can appear in any other locations for clearing, and not just those described in the guide.
— Drones are easily recognized by their characteristic buzzing sound.
- If you are close enough to the drone and look directly at it, it will try to fly away. The safest way to shoot them is with a rocket launcher. If the drone leaves, immediately load the autosave and it will return to its original location. In addition, the drone can fly away if you simply open fire close to it - be careful when clearing camps.
— It makes sense to buy Kvasir’s project to display drones on a locator. At the same time, it is advisable not to buy a project to display felttrite, so that it does not distract you.
— It’s convenient to move from location to location on the Icarus.
— Drones destroyed in subsequent playthroughs also count towards the score. If you have gone through all the points and didn't fall out, start a new game and finish off a few more drones.
Level up your skill:
- mission "to find Dr. Kvasil in the Secreto Swamps." We find it on the northern part of the map of the Swamp Secreto region. Gives the task - "Control Center". we go through it and get the necessary access.
Section in the “projects” menu, then “find and pick up”, pump up to level 3 and open the following two skills: at level 1 of the skill tree “datapad tracking” or “container tracking”, and at level 3 of the skill tree select “tracking” spy drones." That's it, now a special radar shows the degree of approach to them. but in fact, if you pass a location with drones at a distance, then the detector will not show it.
Before this pumping, I myself looked for them on the map; they emit a specific crackling sound when they are present in a location and you approach them. The closer you are to the drogue, the louder the crash.
All locations are personally checked. I have never seen a similar guide with placement on the map on the Internet (and if it suddenly flies away, you will successfully find it in a nearby location - the main thing is to see the direction of its flight). By the way, I found 31 devices.
