How to unlock the Off With Their Heads achievement in RAGE 2 - Definitive Guide

So this is pretty clear from the description, but I thought that I would add my own experience. Throughout the game I was thinking of this and so I was trying to get clean headshots from the Wingstick on a regular basis. As many of you know its not as easy as it sounds. I completed the game and still didn't have this, so I found a meteor that was surrounding by goons (easiest to headshot in my opinion) and just kept throwing the Wingstick to kill all enemies and then reloading the save. My advice would be to avoid the lock on thing and just aim slightly above their head. Works like a charm just make sure you shoot off any armor on the head first. Can confirm that this also works towards the achievement for killing 1337 goons (if you are doing this with goons).

I just wanted to say that the lock on ability is quite useful. When you initially lock it does lock to the chest, but looking up will change the lock to the head.

This achievement is glitched because I just got it and the statistics says only 84 headshots. Not mad, just considering it might not hit at exactly 100.

Hello everybody!

If you’re really in the mood, you can do this the old fashioned way, but there are a couple upgrades you can get using project points and a shop that will seriously boost your speed getting this:
- Go to Gar-illa Gear in Wellspring, and you can buy a Wingstick upgrade, which let's you craft them in the field.
- Go to a junk shop and max out your mechanical and electronic components to make this more effective.
- Go into Capture and Control skill tree, there is a Wingstick tree on the far right. Unlock the first skill and the one connected to it to lock on to enemies with the wingstick.

However, when you first lock on to enemies it will auto lock to their chest. So once you’ve locked on, look up and the lock will change to their head.

The last thing to cover is enemies, and you can do this with any type of enemy, except the Shrouded. All of their armor can be broken, except for the helmet. So you can’t get any headshots on them. Otherwise, just make sure you keep working towards this achievement throughout your playthrough and it can be achieved well before you finish the story.

Good guide. Looking up after lock-on is the trick.

I got this achievement while also going for the Goon De Leet achievement. I have a guide that better describes what I'm doing myself on there if you'd like to check it out.

Basics are that I'm starting a new game on easy and quickly heading over to Doomsayer Peak. Pretty much north from the start past the first road blockade you'll see a dirt road on your left, follow this and it will take you straight to the location. This area has 50-60 goons and they are mostly armorless making it quick and easy to take their heads off. Just don't kill the big guy at the way top and just save/load to start over. Even gives you back your wingsticks that you started with.

What I found to be way easier was to aim in with my AR right at their heads and then throw my wingstick. This actually caused a headshot 90% of the time, sometimes even on armored enemies. Best location to do this on is the bridge area where there are like 5-6 enemies and they stand in the open, making it easy to recover your wingstick before it hits a wall or object. My best run was 11 headshots in one pass before breaking the three wingsticks that I had. If you die, your used wingsticks won't recover so just load up your last saved game and that should work. My achievement popped at about 40 headshots kills. Hope this helps you guys and good luck.

In this video guide I will show you how to quickly get your 100 wingstick head shot kills. Now first off you might want to buy a couple schematics first to help the wingstick overall. Also having one schematic will grant you the ability to craft them on the fly. You can buy most of these in the towns such as Gunbarrel. Once you have that done you might want to go to Wellspring and do Loosum's first mission to get her projects tree unlocked. Once you have her skill tree go into it and start buying the perks related to the wingstick. You will have to get other perks to unlock the next level as well. Get as many as you can to make the achievement easier. You might also want to get Marshall's tree as well because he has a perk where you can increase your throwables capacity.

Once you have all that now you need to find a location. Make sure it has goons in it as they are easy to get head shots on. If you manged to save some of the easier hideouts from the beginning of the game find one of those with goons in it. I used Doomsayer Peak because it has a decent amount of enemies and is also a lower level.

Once you get to the area you want to farm, make sure you make a manual save before going in. Once you do that head in to attack with your wingsticks and make sure to aim for the heads. You will now when it counts when you see the head fly off. Try and make sure if you can help it to throw the wingstick in an open area so it will come back and it doesn't hit a wall. Once you run out just go into your inventory and craft as many as you can. Once those run out as well just reload your manual save. It might take several reloads depending on how much you have worked on this achievement. Once you get that 100th head shot the achievement will pop.

The Wingstick is a usable items that act like a boomerang with bladed tips. They can return to you for reuse, providing they do not hit an object or get pushed away by the enemy. They can be crafted or purchased from vendors to replenish your stock which you can begin using immediately from the start.

A basic non upgraded Wingstick will be extremely luck based to achieve head shots with and you will only be able to carry 3. To make this easier, you will need to upgrade the Wingsticks in the projects tab. In the Capture & Control section get the Lock on and Fast lock abilities. This will create a red flight arc whilst aiming, that shows you where the Wingstick is going to fly and land on the enemy. If you aim above and down onto enemies you will get a headshot, although if they move or dodge then it can miss or hit a different body part.

Other Upgrades to help are the throwable inventory increases, which can be located in the Kill and Destroy project section. This will allows you to carry 8 Wingsticks at once. The Wingstick upgrade schematics that can be purchased from traders will also help, they increase the damage but more importantly gives you the crafting ability. You can grind this out at any outpost. Save the game, kill all but one enemy and then reload. The stats will not reset on a reload so you can use any spot you like. If you are planning on a New Game+ playthrough, you could also carry over the kills to that too.

You will acquire Wingsticks at the very start of the game and can begin using them immediately. They at first will just be thrown with and will track and hit a target if they are in an open enough space. Typically the Wingstick seemed to go through the bodies of enemies and hitting headshots was purely luck based. You can upgrade the Wingsticks via the 'Projects' tab in the menu in the 'Capture & Control' section allowing upgrades such as 'Wingstick Lock-On' and 'Fast Wingstick Lock-On', these will allow you to hold with the Wingstick equipped and you will get a red flight arc that shows you where the Wingstick is going to go, if you aim above and down onto enemies, the lock-on tends to lock onto their heads, though it's not always the case, especially if they're moving.

I personally found this easiest to grind in Mutant Bash TV as the enemies here are weak, but you also get an on-screen prompt saying 'Headshot' when you get a headshot, so you can use this to try and gauge when you are getting successful headshots.

Basically just try to do this over the course of the game. Just keep making and chucking Wingsticks till it's second nature, and certain upgrades could also help as well. I eventually popped this one during the Rise of the Ghosts DLC.

Just as in the case of the trophy for kills with a bazooka, you can farm by reloading the save at any bandit camp convenient for you.

It’s better to farm ghouls in the camp, since they are less evasive and weaker than other enemies. It’s better to throw almost point blank. What is needed is for the bastards' heads to be torn off.

and the lionfish themselves can be created in the equipment menu if they run out

Farm only on scumbags, because... nimble mutants, boars and shrouds in helmets. I advise you to leave it for the end of the game, when you have upgraded all 5 levels of the wingstick. Don't fuss, aim slowly, straight at the head, don't pay attention to what they shoot, just throw for sure - it will save a lot of time

You aim above the victim's head at close range, then the head is torn off even by an enemy wearing a helmet.
Farmed by restarting in the Mountain Fortress outpost in 1 location, at the same time making an achievement for killing the scumbags.
