Just pick one weapon you want to use and stick with that weapon alone from Stage 1 through to the end on Easy. I prefer the Catch Plasma or one of the Vulcan weapons.
The ending you get doesn't matter, and you can continue as much as you need to. A good way to prevent grabbing a different weapon on accident is to wait until a power-up is the same color as your weapon, stop shooting, and let it come to you to grab it.

Pick your weapon of choice, though the Catch Plasma works best. Now beat the game using only that certain weapon. You can't pick up any other weapons as you will have start over all again. This needs to be done on Easy or above. If you are following the Road Map, then you should get this during Step 1.
