How to unlock the A new Hope achievement in Railway Empire 2 - Definitive Guide
I decided to write a guide for this chapter because I almost failed one of the last tasks, but luckily finished with less than 10 days to spare. It's important to be cognizant of the task at the end where you need six cities with a population of 80,000 and start planning for it early otherwise you will fail after hours of gameplay and I don't want you to do that.
Most of these are pretty straight forward so they don't need any tips, but I'll add some tips where I think it might help.
Chapter 4 - The Sunset Route
From the Ashes
A Texas Railroad
Most of these are pretty straight forward so they don't need any tips, but I'll add some tips where I think it might help.
Chapter 4 - The Sunset Route
From the Ashes
- Jun 1874 Connect 5 rural businesses to your rail network
- Dec 1874 Reach 90k citizens in the East Texas region (Austin, Houston, and Beaumont)
- Dec 1875 Reach 60k citizens in Houston
- Jun 1876 Make 10 different goods available in Austin at the same time - getting the last two goods in Austin is a bit tricky. Start planning for this one early and build warehouses in Houston and Beaumont. Note that you cannot build a second factory in Houston because the computer automatically builds a tool factory for you. Don't demolish the tool factory in Houston or the steel factory in Austin when they show up! You need these later. Also build a wooden plank factory which you'll need for future tasks and maybe a cheese factory since there is milk nearby. Also it's a pain to build textiles and clothing in this section. Wait until you get to Jackson and New Orleans for that and build a long track around the swamp from Beaumont and Austin as you will need that as well.
A Texas Railroad
- Dec 1876 Produce 14 loads of Wooden Planks in your factories
- Jun 1877 Buy 3 private routes
- Jun 1877 Achieve an express status on a rail line between Dallas and Brownsville
- Deliver tools to Austin - you have to deliver steel from Austin to Houston and then send the tools back to Austin. The thing that sucks about making steel is that the coal is far away to the north. I chose the coal in the northwest corner
- Establish an express line from Dallas to Memphis
- Establish an express line from Memphis to New Orleans
- Reach 40k citizens in New Orleans
- Deliver 24 Wooden Planks to Beaumont
- Deliver 24 Wooden Planks to New Orleans
- Deliver 12 Steel to Beaumont
- Deliver 12 Steel to New Orleans - for this one, make sure you bypass Beaumont. Just build a line directly past it to link up with your longer line to New Orleans. Do NOT change your warehouse in Beaumont to accept steel as I believe, based on my game, that Beaumont will still be absorbing steel even if you complete the previous task
- Dec 1881 Achieve 6 cities with 80k or more citizens in your rail network - This is the dangerous task that can make you fail! You need to start working on this as soon as possible and plan out which cities you want to get to 80k. Obviously Houston, Austin and Beamont will be no problem. You should also be focused on New Orleans for this. The other ones I worked on was Corpus Cristi in the southwest as it's close to the other big cities, and Jackson, directly north of New Orleans but that was a bad choice as there aren't a lot of resources around. I suggest that early on you pick a couple of cities west or north of Austin and build them early. Don't ignore this area like I did
- Dec 1881 Buy General Donovan's company
- Dec 1881 Establish a connection from Beaumont to New Orleans that is shorter than 430km
- Dec 1881 Put all competitors out of business
- Dec 1881 Have a balance of 500k per week
- Dec 1881 Connect 19 cities to your rail network

For the last task, the 80k in 6 cities, it is much easier to just connect some big cities of your main competitor to your network. One of them even was already above 80k.
