Railway Empire 2

Apparently buying up private railways no longer works for this achievement. A recent patch made sure of that so my original solution no longer works. Apologies to those who tried that without success.

Good news is that you can still cheese this achievement. During any campaign, scenario or free game (must set up with AI players), you can buy out your competitors. Hold and select the icon with the top hat (top right). This will bring up the Company screen. Hit until you get to Competitors where you can buy shares in their companies. Occasionally the computer won't let you do so until you've finished some tasks, but if you are going for campaign completion, this will be required so I suggest NOT going out of your way to buy someone out. Wait until you need to, however if you want to continue a Campaign Chapter after you won, you can do that and it still counts towards the achievement.

Here are your options in campaign:

• Chapter 1: "Dec 1839 Buy Barti Shiloh's company" shows up as an optional task
• Chapter 3: "Dec 1878 Buy Walter Pajonk's company" shows up as an optional task
• Chapter 4: "Dec 1881 Buy General Donovan's company" is a required task

Personally I would wait until Chapter 4 but if you already finished that one then set up a free game with one AI or do it in scenarios. Or, if you are lucky, you can find a save from a previous game that's close.

Once you are ready to buy someone out, do the following:

1. Buy 100% of the target competitor's company (issue bonds if necessary)
2. Save the game
3. Select "merge"
4. Reload save
5. Repeat from step 3

I would turn on achievement tracking so you can see your progress go up. Sometimes it takes up to a minute to register, but it works. Should be able to get this in about 10 minutes.
