How to unlock the A Tommy Gun! achievement in Rango - Definitive Guide
You can easily get this one on the first level. Wait till you get introduced to the jack-in-a-box power-up thing. You will see a meter go down at your health location on screen, shoot 10 enemies during this time and the achievement unlocks.
Once you have the power up you want just shoot all the enemies until the achievement pops. It is easier if you use the strafe mode (left trigger) as this allows you to keep your cross hairs targeted on the enemies instead of constantly turning round. I should also note that I had fully upgraded my Blaster in the shop before attempting this achievement.
This solution will also work for the Spreadshot and Launcher achievements so you might want to go for them all at once by just dying and re-spawning into this area.
You will get the different power-ups from various jack-in-the-boxes scattered around the various stages. Usually they are located where you will need to fight a large number of enemies. The power-up only lasts for a certain amount of time before it disappears, but you are able to extend how long it lasts by buying upgrades for them through the Wounded Bird. In order to get the trophy, you must kill 10 enemies during ONE power-up's duration (it's not cumulative). For this reason, it's best that you have at least one upgrade for the power-up in order to give yourself enough time to kill 10. Once you kill 10 with the required power-up, the trophy will pop!
During certain fights there will be a Jack-in-the-box box which contains one of the three power ups (Launcher, Tommy Gun and the Spreadshot). You will randomly get one of these weapons from the box for a short period of time. Melee (press ) the box to activate it. All you have to do is kill 10 enemies with the weapon in the allotted time for the respective achievement to unlock. To make it easier purchase the upgrades to make the timer last longer. Holding down the instead of tapping it may make this achievement easier especially for the Tommy Gun.
