How to unlock the Legend of the West achievement in Rango - Definitive Guide

Jenkins Cousins' Homestead:
* Mining Site 1 - The game forces you to look at this site early in level 1. Don't cross the skeleton bridge until you've mined this site.
* Mining Site 2 - After you cross the first skeleton bridge, hop down to the right and look right to find a cactus and this site.
* Mining Site 3 - After crouching and crossing under a skeleton, turn 180 degrees to and look for a pile of boxes on the right. Smash them to reveal this site.
* Mining Site 4 - After you wall-climb for the first time, drop down and face the narrow balance bridge. Turn 180 degrees and smash the stack of boxes to reveal this site.
* Fish Bowl 1 - After crossing your first balance-bridge you'll run smack into this one. Destroy it.
* Mining Site 5 - After you take out the enemies that surround you (after a short cutscene), find this site on the left side of the room (from where you entered).
* Fish Bowl 2 - This is in the same area as Mining Site 5, but it's in the back of the room.
* Fish Bowl 3 - After you slide down another skeleton you'll fight a few enemies and trigger a cutscene. Defeat the enemies and look to the left from where you entered to find this bowl.
* Mining Site 6 - Find this site in the middle of the area after the one where you found Fish Bowl 3.
* Fish Bowl 4 - This is in the back of the area where you found Mining Site 6.
* Mining Site 7 - After your first golf shot, cross the bridge and head right to find this site
* Mining Site 8 - After fighting spiky rolly-pollies on the conveyor belt you'll scale a small wall with wire mesh on it. When you get up top, look right to find this site before you pound the trapdoor.
* Fish Bowl 5 - Find this bowl in the back left of the area where you encounter your first jack-in-the-box.

Water Train:
* Mining Site 1 - After dropping down inside the train for the first time, look in the middle of the first car on the right by the salesman.
* Fish Bowl 1 - The first time you're wall-climbing the side of a traincar (under the mariachi band) using blue beams take the lower beam pretty far to the right to find this bowl.
* Fish Bowl 2 - A little later, after fighting through a few indoor cars with zipper doors, you'll see you're about to climb the side of a traincar again. In the indoor car right at that point, this bowl is by the entrance.
* Mining Site 2 - After the Golden Bullet sequence, on top of the first part of the next car, you'll find this site.
* Mining Site 3 - Soon after MIning Site 2 you'll be on a traincar with a poundable trapdoor. Before pounding it head to the back of the car to find this site.
* Fish Bowl 3 - After lowering the crate and exiting through the top square hold of a traincar, head backwards down the train and drop down a different square blue hole to find this bowl.
* Mining Site 4 - You'll soon come to a wire mesh wall-climbing section. Rather than going around, scale all the way down to the floor of the open traincar to find this site.

The Forbidden Mine:
* Mining Site 1 - Right at the start. Jump the first gap and look in a nook up and to the right.
* Fish Bowl 1 - Shortly after Mining Site 1, right after you jump the second gap.
* Fish Bowl 2 - Before activating the second electricity switch, after you fight a large number of enemies. Look in the suspended open crate.
* Mining Site 2 - A little while later you'll balance-walk across a piece of a newly-exploded wooden bridge and fight three enemies on the other side. After passing through the steam jets and before you move the mining cart, look into an alcove on the left.
* Mining Site 3 - After Golden Bullet segment you'll fight a large group of enemies. Look in a cave in the wall of this area.
* Fish Bowl 3 - After defeating the large charging rabbit, cross the bridge, go around the corner, slide down the rail, hop the two gaps and look behind the boxes.
* Mining Site 4 - After rail grinding most of the way down the mineshaft you'll wall-climb down and go around the base of the wooden tower you just descended to find this site.
* Mining Site 5 - After a quick cutscene look left and smash the boxes to find this site.
* Mining Site 6 - In same area as Mining Site 5. Defeat all the enemies and destroy all the boxes to find this site.
* Mining Site 7 - You'll come to another open area after rail grinding and platforming a little more and passing the salesman. It'll be very dark. As soon as you get to this area, turn to your left a ways to find this site.
* Fish Bowl 4 - In the dark open area with the high-jumping rabbits (same area as Mining Site 7) go up onto the walkway where rabbits were throwing dynamite at you and look in the broken water tower.
* Mining Site 8 - In the same area as Fish Bowl 4. Go all the way to the back right of this area (from where you entered) to find this site.

Land of Giants:
* Fish Bowl 1 - As soon as you start, before you do anything, turn around and hop up into the air duct. To left, destroy all the boxes, and find this fish.
* Mining Site 1 - After the Golden Bullet Sequence but before you climb up, drop down off the red book and go around the corner to find this site.
* Fish Bowl 2 - In exactly the same place as Mining Site 1.
* Mining Site 2 - This can be see during the mini cutscene after you defeat the high-jumping rabbits on the ledge. Climb up the books and climb up left to find this site.
* Mining Site 3 - After finding the salesman for the first time you'll drop down and get attacked by enemies. You landed on this site.
* Fish Bowl 3 - After fighting a big charging rabbit you'll find a breakable trapdoor. Before busting it, destroy all the crates on the right to find this bowl.
* Mining Site 4 - In exactly the same place as Fish Bowl 3.
* Fish Bowl 4 - After climing onto and off the cuckoo clock you'll go up into a small area and you'll get attacked. After the mini cutscene, turn around and go back towards the hold you came up through and you'll see this bowl.
* Mining Site 5 - In exactly the same place as Fish Bowl 4.
* Fish Bowl 5 - After crossing over the ceiling fan and fighting more enemies you'll rail grind and activate a singing fish plaque. Drop down off the right side of that ledge to find this bowl.
* Mining Site 6 - After the third Golden Bullet segment you'll turn off the electrified staples and scale them. Jump up and over the box with the blue edge to find this site.
* Mining Site 7 - You'll go back into the wall after navigating through some darts and find a poundable trapdoor. Before using it head left and smash all the crates to find this site.
* Fish Bowl 6 - Right after Mining Site 7 you'll re-enter the room and get attacked. Before moving on from that platform, go back to where you exited the wall and look at the person. You'll see this bowl on a ledge across a small gap.
* Mining Site 8 - In exactly the same place as Fish Bowl 6.

Rodent Clan:
* Mining Site 1 - In the first open area you come to. Defeat all the enemies, including the high-jumping and charging rabbits. This site is in a corner diagonally opposite the campfire.

* Mining Site 4 - Soon after you get Mining Site 3, turn left as you exit the train cars. You'll see barrels, a spitting plant, and this site.
* Fish Bowl 1 - After the second open area with lots of enemies you'll cross over an electrified fence. Drop down from the fence, turn around, and find this bowl under a slanted wooden awning.

* Mining Site 6 - In the same area as Mining Site 5.
* Mining Site 7 - In the same area as Mining Sites 5 and 6.
* Fish Bowl 2 - After you balance-walk across a thin wire and Rango complains, an enemy will spawn to your right. Defeat him then look down off the back edge of the platform to find this bowl. This is in the area near the Golden Bullet.
* Mining Site 8 - After some rail-grinding you'll find the salesman. Scale the wall next to him and look left to find this site.
* Fish Bowl 3 - Don't leave the area where you got Mining Site 8. Move the green box to the switch, then move it near the large pillar in the middle and use it to double-jump to the fish bowl.
* Mining Site 9 - Lower the next drawbridge, defeat the enemies, and find this site at the back of that little area.

* Mining Site 14 - Near Mining Site 13, but closer to the dumpster full of cactus.
* Fish Bowl 5 - In the same area as Mining Sites 11-14. Look inside the traincar.
* Fish Bowl 6 - Climb up above where you found Mining Site 13 and go in that little shack to find this bowl.

The Return of Rattlesnake Jake:
# Fish Bowl 1 - At the very start, defeat all the enemies. Head up along the left side of the street and find this fishbowl on a ledge on the right side of the "Cantina" (as you're facing it).
# Fish Bowl 2 - Drop down the yellow pipe in the road and continue until you have to jump from mesh wire on the right to mesh wire in the left. Rather than going up, go down and find this bowl next to a large #8 billiard ball.
# Mining Site 1 - You'll come to a poundable trapdoor. Before busting it, mine the site to the left of the door, next to the huge "Dead End" sign.
# Mining Site 2 - After you re-emerge from the underground via the pipe, find this site on the right side of the area between two buildings (as you're facing the cliff).
# Fish Bowl 3 - After leaving the second open area you'll navigate some collapsing rock pillars. Drop down from the one that had the rabbit chucking dynamite at you and destroy all the boxes to find this bowl.
# Mining Site 3 - After some more navigating across collapsing pillars and some wall-climbing, you'll drop out of a big pipe. Turn around immediately to find this site.

Zombie Invasion:
# Mining Site 1 - To the left of the door where you can exit the first puzzle room.
# Fish Bowl 1 - Next to the big red switch in the room after the first puzzle room.
# Fish Bowl 2 - In the first open area where you fight lots of zombies, find this bowl behind the burning building separated from all the others.
# Mining Site 2 - After rail-grinding and wall-climbing, jump to the left to find a zombie and this site.
# Mining Site 3 - After crossing a few collapsing pillars and rail-grinding a little more you'll find the salesman. Look left and destroy all the boxes to find this site.
# Mining Site 4 - After battling two large spiky rolly-pollies, slide down a short rail, come to the next area, and look on a ledge to the left to find this site.
# Mining Site 5 - Cross over three collapsing pillars, find the salesman, and go up to the left to find this site.
# Fish Bowl 3 - In the open area after you cross over a burning building, look between the two buildings across the street from the "Cantina".

Nowhere & Back:
# Mining Site 1 - As soon as you get to the snowy area, find the ledge on the left and go down to find this site.
# Fish Bowl 1 - Towards the end of the snowy area, after you drop down and pass a cheeseburger on your right, go all the way to the left to find this bowl.
# Mining Site 2 - After you put the first block into the puzzle in the 8-bit world, take the new bridge and double-jump to the first hold. Then go left and drop down twice to land on this site.
# Mining Site 3 - After you put the third block into the puzzle in the 8-bit world, take the new bridge but go all the way across to find this site.
# Fish Bowl 2 - Soon after you get Mining Site 3 the bridges behind you will collapse and you will sprint. When you jump the large gap and start climbing the wall, go left around the corner to find this bowl.

Alien Showdown:
* Fish Bowl 1 - After a while you'll fight five alien rabbits then step out onta an eight-sided platform that flashes blue in the middle. Pan the camera around to the right to find a fish bowl in the distance. Shoot it.
* Fish Bowl 2 - Soon after Fish Bowl 1 you'll be traveling on a similar platform and you'll arrive at a group of enemies who shot you on the way there. Don't pound this platform yet. Look around to find this bowl on a yellow, lower ledge attached to the center structure of the room. Shoot it.
* Mining Site 1 - After you rescue Beans' father, mine the area he was in his cell.
* Mining Site 2 - In the exact same place as Mining Site 1.
* Mining Site 3 - After wall-climbing a bit you'll drop right down onto this one.

Great guide, I am having one problem through. Finished the game three times on hard, each time collecting everything that is there to collect, but the chievo won't pop, and I don't know what I am doing wrong, any idea? I do it all in one sitting, not missing one thing, not restarting a tale, nor replaying tales, still won't pop.

Yes you can beat the game then go back as long as you do not change the difficulty. I am not sure if it will mess with the achievement but why chance it the game is cake.

Yeah going back into any level to get the collectibles works, just as long as you don't start a new game.

I can confirm that switching difficulty does not impact the achievement. I have played it through on Hard, then Continue story on easy by playing through level 1 for grinding and I have received the achievement midway towards the 200,000 stars.

Great guide, one thing you might want to do is edit is Nowhere and Back, Fish Bowl 2, you have written "Soon after you get Mining Site 1 the bridges behind you will collapse and you will sprint." You meant to write Mining Site 3, not 1. Just thought i'd mention it since it could maybe confuse somebody. Nevertheless, great guide, thanks! +1 from me

Great solution, thumbs up.

Just wanted to add that if you finish all the levels in hard mode, you can then replay any level that you still need collectibles in on easy and also finish purchases in easy mode. The achievement will pop after you buy the last upgrade.

Just an addition to the two solutions above.

You also need to buy all the upgrades for this achievement to pop.

After I had completed the game on Hard and collecting everything I needed, my achievement did not pop.

I replayed levels until I had enough Stars to purchase the remaining upgrades and when I did, I got the achievement.

I hope this helps a poor soul who worried like I did.

Haha, how bitter! Just 2 days before you made this tip I had a minor fit; after a good amount of time I came to this point, ocmpleted everything but no achivment pop, and then in my desperate confusion I managed to delete all my progress!
I just restarted now to finish it off, I will bear this in mind for sure this time!

For this trophy you must beat the game on hard mode, get all of the mining spots/goldfish bowls located in each stage and buy all the upgrades from Wounded Bird. If you need help finding any of the ones you are missing, there is a collectibles guide (HERE). You do not have to get all the collectibles in one playthrough as you can return to any stage you are missing something in to get it after you complete the game. You will need to replay levels to get enough sheriff stars in order to buy all the upgrades though. Once you complete the game on hard mode and obtained all of the mining spots, goldfish bowls & upgrades, you will also get all the unlocks and the trophy! Also, see here for a video Guide if text isn't your thing (credit to MonsterAchievements for this): LINK

It may be called hard mode but it is incredibly easy and the only chance you will die is from falling while platforming. To make it even easier you can spend Sheriff Stars on upgrades that increase Rango's health and his weapon performance. You can buy upgrades from a salesman who is found throughout each level.

To collect all of the collectibles please use the guide found HERE.  (Credit to NiteJokester) You may have enough Sheriff Stars by the end of the game to buy all of the upgrades, if not please see the "Red, White & Blue Sevens" achievement for a good Sheriff Star boosting method. As soon as you buy all of the upgrades this will unlock but you have to have completed the game and collected all of the collectibles as well.

Play the game on hard right away. Then practice collecting on an easy level. Once you collect everything and upgrade it, you will receive a trophy.
