Rare Replay

Alongside the full games, each pre-N64 game in Rare Replay has five standalone 'snapshot' challenges available to attempt; this concept is taken a stage further by a set of six 'playlists,' collecting together five achievements that share a particular theme. To complete each playlist, you'll need to complete each set of snapshots in sequence without failing more than twice across the whole set.

For this achievement, you'll need to complete the 'Escape Artist' playlist, for which each snapshot requires you to escape from some form of maze. The snapshots are as follows:

1. Atic Atac: No Wand Left Behind
You've assembled the Key of ACG, but lost your wand! Escape the castle.

You have no weapon here, so take some care and make sure to pick up food as you come across it - you won't need to visit any room more than once. You start the snapshot in the bottom-left room of the attic and have to make your way to the ACG door and exit. The following steps provide the quickest route:

1. R, R, U, U.
2. Fall through the trapdoor.
3. L, U.
4. Fall through the trapdoor.
5. R, R, R, U.
6. Finally exit through the ACG door.

2. Sabre Wulf: Going Under
You've assembled the ACG amulet! Make it to the Underwurld without losing four lives.

The snapshot sees you with four lives to reach the exit from your starting position - so you have some scope for deaths without failing. To reach the exit, you'll need to go down, following the path until you reach the screen with six exits, then leave here to the lower-left, go left again and down to another area with six exits. From here, go straight down and follow the path until you reach a cave entrance, then enter the cave to find the exit.

3. Battletoads: Slippery Toad
Reach the end of the Arctic Caverns within 60 seconds.

The main challenge with this snapshot comes from the icy surface, combined with the deadly spikes that litter the area. You'll need to take a path downwards against the right-most wall, all the way to the left and then up and to the right, jumping over enemies as they appear. Finally, drop down the pit to the right, either using the platform that descends when stood on or just by falling, to land on the platform to the right at the bottom of the pit and complete the snapshot. 60 seconds is fairly generous here, so you can affords to take a little care as you manoeuvre through the cavern.

4. Snake, Rattle 'n' Roll: Dramatic Exit
Make your way down the perilous path and reach the exit within 30 seconds.

This snapshot sees you navigating a narrow, though fortunately straight, pathway and while 30 seconds may not seem like a long time, this is actually quite generous and you can afford to progress carefully. Make use of your snake's shadow and take care not to overshoot your jumps. Also, notice that in a few places there are obstacles that will eject from the side of the wall and attempt to push your snake off the platform - take care not to land in front of these. At the end of the platform, you'll need to jump (or fall) forward then turn mid-fall to land in the exit below the platform.

5. Digger T. Rock: Legend of the Lost City: Untouchable

You being this snapshot standing on the pillar that triggers the exit to open; as a result, you have just over 60 seconds to complete this snapshot (indicated by the counter in the lower-left of the screen), as the exit will close after this time. Your main challenge here will be avoiding the cavemen who roam the cavern and there are a couple of approaches. Either way, you need to start by climbing the ladders to the left of your starting point, then heading right from the top, avoiding (or attacking) the two cavemen as you go.

Now, you can continue by jumping to the left across the lower platforms, then down to the right, using a ladder for the longer fall. Now you just need to continue to the right and you'll find the exit. As you go, there are several more enemies to avoid along this route.

Alternatively, once you've avoided the first two cavemen, drop to the platform below them, move to the left-hand edge here and drop a ladder. From the bottom of this ladder, drop another ladder, descend this and drop a third from the bottom of this. You can now drop to the ground from the bottom of this third ladder and the exit is nearby to the right, over one final caveman.
