How to unlock the Life in the Fast Lane achievement in Rare Replay - Definitive Guide
Place your thumb underneath your shirt and use it to slide back and forth between the A and B buttons rapidly. Nothing else worked for me. Hope that helps!

The snapshots provide 'bite-sized' challenge in a predefined scenario in the game, accessible via the snapshots section of the Rare Replay interface. You cannot use the rewind feature when attempting these.
There are five snapshots to complete, which are as follows:
1. Button Masher
Win the drag race! Alternate between the and buttons to accelerate.
In this snapshot, you have to complete a drag race lasting for about 10 seconds, coming in first place. Your car's speed is determined by how rapidly you can alternately press the and buttons - and you'll need to do so very rapidly to win the race. Different people have very differing experiences of this snapshot - some find it very easy, others very difficult. If you find this hard, completing the snapshot will require you to find a technique that works for you. Here are a few methods to try:
- Place your controller on a fixed surface, using this to stabilize it while you press and with two different fingers.
- Roll a pencil (or other long, thin cylinder) backwards and forwards across the two buttons.
- Place a piece of fabric over the buttons (to smooth the movement across them) and rub your thumb or a finger rapidly backwards and forwards across the two buttons.
If you find yourself tiring after a few attempts, take a break and allow yourself to recover before trying again (clearing any built-up lactic acid from your arm).
2. Cruise Control II
It's a snapshot sequel! Finish the race with an average speed of 75mph or more.
The requirement here is along the same lines as that for the similarly-named snapshot for R.C. Pro-Am, with your average speed needing to be at least 75mph by the end of the race. Your car's speed on straights will easily be around 85mph+, so taking your corners tightly and avoiding crashes should be sufficient to meet the snapshot's requirement. Running across the on-track chevrons for a brief speed boost will help things further/
3. A Quick Buck
Grab at least five cash pick-ups in 60 seconds! Use your unlimited buckshot to clear a path.
There are a few ways of approaching this snapshot, where you need to collect at least five cash pick-ups (of either denomination) from the track within 60 seconds. First, note that if you turn around at the start, you'll find four pick-ups in a row just before the line. Collecting these has the downside that many of the pick-ups going forward from the line will then be collected by other racers, but they'll still miss some, which you can then collect. You can also use your gun here, as successful hits on your opponents will cause them to drop cash, which you can the collect. Alternatively, just race as usual (without turning around at the start), and you'll likely find yourself able to collect five pick-ups fairly quickly anyway.
4. Going Turbo
Use the track's turbo boosts to finish five laps in 95 seconds or less.
You have 95 seconds to finish five laps - this works out at 19 seconds per lap (use that to give split times to aim for), which is a rather tight requirement. To beat this time, you'll need to practice the track so that you know its shape and, importantly, where the chevrons are placed for speed boosts. Getting as many of these boosts as possible is vital, and you can only afford to miss a small number over the five laps if you're going to be fast enough.
5. Velocity
Your sabotaged R.C. car mustn't drop below 50mph! Finish in the top three.
Clearly inspired by the film Speed, you need to ensure that your speed remains at or above 50mph throughout the race, while not finishing last. The are two main things that might cause you to fail here - crashing into the track's boundaries and being hit by the bombs that are dropped from a plane onto the track in two sections. The first set of bombs can be avoided quite easily by weaving between them, but the second set are more challenging to avoid as you'll be crossing an icy area of the track at the time. The most reliable way to pass this second section is to trigger your car's nitro to cross the ice, placing your car ahead of the bombs as they fall.
