How to unlock the Ready to Launch achievement in Rare Replay - Definitive Guide

OK, here is everything you need to know to do this achievement.

Ultra Combos can only be performed when your opponent has a flashing red health bar, you have a flashing yellow meter and you are at least one hit into a combo. Their second health bar is red, and it will flash when at 15-20%. Your yellow meter will fill fastest when you're taunting or blocking. You need to perform one move before you initiate the ULTRA combo.

Here's a walkthrough with Sabrewulf since I learned how to play that character while trying another person's lousy advice.

Go to Arcade mode with 2 controllers. Choose Sabrewulf for player one. Once in arcade mode, you have 99 seconds to deplete your opponent's life to a flashing red bar. At this point, use the combo cn_left, cn_right + cn_X with Sabrewulf. This is his taunt, it will fill his meter until it's yellow and flashing.

Once the conditions are set, use the combo cn_left, cn_right + cn_Y, this will initiate a combo that looks like a cartwheel. Quickly enter the Ultra Combo NOW, (HOLD) cn_left, cn_right + cn_A. If done correctly, it will show a cutscene and you will get an ULTRAAAAAA COOMBOOOOOOO!!

You can practice the sequence cn_left, cn_right + cn_Y, (HOLD) cn_left, cn_right + cn_A while depleting your opponent's health bar. If entered correctly, Sabrewulf should do a cartwheel, then do a yelp/howl or something.

Congrats on your achievement.

It should be noted that the Ultra Combo isnt back, foward A. It's CHARGE back, foward A. Had no luck with this at all until I saw the correct move in a FAQ. Once you start the cartwheel you should already be holding back to prepare the Ultra input as merely tapping it does nothing.

Round of applause for the comments. I did one after 6 tries, but then after reading the comments I did the other 4 in 5 tries. Thanks very much!

Thank you to the comments telling me I had to hold down left for a bit. This should really be added into the actual solution so people who are bad at fighting games like myself will be able to do it easier

Just so you know, you don't seem to need to have sabrewolf flashing yellow. I still got the ultra combo with just the opponent health bar flashing red.

It is absolutely fascinating to me what has gone on here lol.

I couldn't get an ultra combo at all, until someone in the comments mentioned you have to hold back before hitting forward + A.

So did the solution writer just accidentally succeed at doing the ultra combos? That's the only thing I can think of. Honestly, I think anyone that doesn't say "Make sure to hold back before pushing forward + A" is probably accidentally succeeding at doing ultras. How else can we explain that they did ultra combos when they have no idea about that little detail?

Anyway, thanks to the comment writers!!

I don't mean to be passive aggressive to the solution writer. =p

I can confirm that you dont need a flashing yellow bar. You dont need anything but the opponents health flashing red and also thank you to those who pointed out to hold back left then forward a. This was giving me a headache lol

(+1) from me. It took a little bit to get used to the button combos but nothing a six pack and I couldn't handle after awhile.

Yeah, I'm definitely keeping this at a thumbs down until it's edited to say that you need to HOLD back before doing forward A and that you don't need to have a full yellow bar, just flashing red. Seriously, wasting people's time.

Definitely needs an update, holding cn_left is required to get this, would not have done it were it not for the comments.

You need to add to your solution that it's not simply pressing back, but charging (slightly holding) back that makes the combo work. I'll thumbs up when you edit it

Absolutely no need for a yellow flashing bar. Glad you edited in the hold back part.

Doesn't work. Only does cartwheel

Took a couple attempts to get the timing but worked perfect thanks. Only takes a slight hold back (left) before finishing combo, still fairly quick

Just try again, sometimes the timing can be a little tricky. Just make sure you drain her life, then you fill your own yellow meter up before you start the combo.

Back, Forward + cn_Y should give you the cartwheel, and BEFORE sabrewulf has finished the cartwheel, you must enter back, forward + cn_A.

That should do the trick, if you accidentally kill her and it doesn't work, try again a little faster or slower. If you try to put in the combo too fast, it won't work.

To re-iterate what Code Jefe said the key is to hold back during the ultra input not just tap it. I was also having trouble doing this with Sabrewulf but by pressing cn_left, cn_right + cn_Y to do the cartwheel combo then holding cn_left for a short time instead of just tapping it followed by cn_right + cn_A I was able to pull it off.

CreepyB4by's solution isn't 100% correct. After reading the comments for it, I managed to get it just right every time.

To begin, start arcade, select Sabrewulf and then bring in a second player on a second controller.

To make life easier for future use a few notes.

1. You only need to have the health bar of your opponent to flashing red, you do NOT need to charge the power bar by taunting.

2. The actual move to get the combo is cn_left, cn_right+cn_Y. While the cartwheel animation is going hold and charge cn_left then when the cartwheel ends cn_right+cn_A

I found it easiest to use cn_RB and cn_RT in the first round to take him down quickly then in the second round just use cn_X until his health starts to flash. Then perform the Ultra combo input and job done!

It probably got few votes because it's exactly the same as my guide. The bigger question is why has the top voted guide got any at all as that is wrong

Go into options and change "Quick kick" to cn_RB(I only suggest that because it is how I have it setup)

Go into Arcade with a second controller and select Sabrewolf, since his combo is far easier than anyone else's.

When the opponent's health is flashing red quickly hit:
cn_left cn_right + cn_Y, hold cn_left, hit cn_RB, cn_right+cn_RB

That will do the Ultra every time

The condition for an Ultra Combo is a red glimming life bar and a combo opener. I have chosen Jagos Double Kick as opener. The Input for this Kick: cn_right+FK
During this Kick you have to input his Ultra Combo.
Legend: FK = Fierce Kick, QK = Quick Kick
Jagos Ultra Combo has the following Input: cn_downrightcn_downcn_downleft + QK
So the full combination = cn_right+FK, cn_downrightcn_downcn_downleft + QK

Useful hint from Sambaweb: FK and QK are the buttonscn_RT and cn_A in standard configuration

For the people like me who are terrible at fighting games, grab a second controller and head into Tournament/Arcade mode. Once in a match, block with the second character by backing up, and punch or kick while moving forward with the main character. Once the bar under your health is filled and flashing red, bring the second character down to his second (red) life bar. You can then continue with the combo that Dragoner28 has provided.

Note: it will not activate until the second characters health is around 1/4 left, leaving you with limited opportunities before finishing the round. Rinse and repeat.

This will also count towards the "Expiration Date" achievement as it will count as "No Mercy Finisher".

All solutions are very good but if like me, you got only 1 controller, you can do it easy in tournament mode. Opponant won't move. Also got the 5 Fatality achievements while doing this.
