How to unlock the Testing Times achievement in Rare Replay - Definitive Guide

In order to be able to obtain platinum medals you must first get 2 gold medals in all the main Carrier missions as well as 1 Gold on every Bonus mission.

Once that's done you'll unlock the time trials for the carrier missions, get gold in all of these and you will be able to start earning platinum medals.

Make sure to end the level immediately as the time will be saved for the time trials

If you have gotten gold in every level but the secret offworld missions aren't showing make sure to check if you have found all CP's you'll know if there is one left as the level will have a green ring in the mission select.

As for the medal itself, I found the very first level, Simian Acres to be the easiest.
The target time for this mission is 14 secs.

As soon as the level starts just drive through all the necessary buildings, aslong as you destroy all buildings without stopping or turning around you'll get it easily.

So there's a chance you can get a platinum medal while doing the time trials if you're fast enough and save having to redo another level again.
After unlocking platinum mode I went into the first level to see what the time for platinum was and noticed that the little ticker rolling across the bottom of the screen showed that I already had 2 platinum medals. Took me a while to find them but I eventually discovered they were for the Mercury and Mars levels. Started the race on Mercury and the achievement popped straight away.

It sounds ridiculous because these planet levels are quite tough but they also have pretty long time limits so the platinums aren't TOO horrendous with a bit of luck. The couple of race ones (Mercury and Neptune) in particular aren't especially difficult platinums.

I honestly can't say, when I unlocked the time trials I already had gold in both since I ended the level immediately after clearing the path.

I just unlocked the time trials and have gold on everything but diamond sands and agent towers. What's the best way to drive the backlash? I hate that vehicle :/

After many, many attempts at using the backlash, I finally realized it's best to hit the brake button right before you try to make him slide. Certain levels became much easier after I figured that out.

Beeton Tracks was the easiest I found to platinum.

Skyfall is probably the quickest one to get with it only taking a few seconds

Props to Martel18 method for Diamond Sands. Other than a personal goof up got it on the second try with that method.

Was an N64 player on this title, and I found that the J-Bomb introduction level was easiest to platinum. Hit every building/tower in the center and you'll be well under the time goal. I got mine to 24 seconds, with 30 being the goal.

Super easy level to get platinum on is Echo Marches. Ignore the train section & the boat section. Just play the level first to familiarise yourself with which buildings you need to destroy and then just destroy those. (Also, you only need to destroy part of the white buildings) Good luck! smile

This may seem like a no brainer, but for anyone else wondering...the first completed attempt of a main mission counts, re-entering the mission to collect RDUs, destroy buildings, etc does not count against the your time. Just try to complete the main objective on your first attempt as quickly as you can. If you're too slow on your first completion, you'll have to wait to retry it until you get to the time trial phase at the end of game.

For anyone stuck on Backlash! I give you a huge advice. For the building on the concrete Just drive over the rocks into the building. Do not even slide

Si0ul, for Diamond sands, drive into the corner of the buildings then ride the train track at an angle and just keep driving against them until they blow up. Usually you'll one hit the next building.

As for Towers, drive straight and you can easily do a solid drift into the first building, try to do the same for the second one, for the third building you'll see a white bump just before it, hit it and you'll get some air and one shot the building. Drift into the fourth building as best as you can, fifth one has another white bump under the corner closest to the road. Just run into that corner until it gets destroyed and then you'll get air and take out the rest of it. The last two buildings try drifting from the streets.

Just follow the video. clap

Just a tip for those, like me, that didn't know better. When you are playing through the regular, main campaign, make sure to end levels once you clear the path instead of just letting time run out. You can end levels by getting out of your vehicle and getting into the Blast Corps semi-truck. This will record the time you ended the level at for later when you unlock Time Trial mode.

I didn't know this and just let time run out while I zoomed around destroying buildings and collecting RDUs. Then when I unlocked Time Trial mode I had to redo almost every level. If you end the level, you should have golds for most of the levels and won't have to redo really annoying levels like Ebony Coast, Diamond Sands, and Oyster Harbor.

Also, remember that in Time Trial mode the carrier doesn't actually need to make it all the way to the end, just all the buildings need to be cleared. That means you can do things like, not fill in all the holes in the road on Oyster Harbor. As long as the buildings are destroyed before the carrier blows up, you'll beat the level. I had to redo Oyster Harbor and only filled in the first 3 holes to buy me some extra time.

Finally, if you struggle with Simian Acres when you are trying to get your platinum, try some other levels. Other people have recommended some of the race ones, the J-Bomb level, and Skyfall as alternatives.

I personally did it on Skyfall after a couple of attempts after watching a video. On Skyfall you want to hit one of the silos on the end without boosting and then use all your boost to run through the other three in under four seconds.

Good luck!

By design this will basically be the last achievement you get in this game. You will need 2 Gold medals on all 21 main missions (1 for completing the level and 100%ing it's objectives, as well as one near the end of the game for speed on completing the level) as well as Gold medal on all 36 side missions.

SPOILERS!!! Be aware this guide will cover some mission related secrets and spoilers as those are necessary in order to earn this achievement.

Some tips along the way: Always end the mission by jumping into the Yellow Truck and always finish it as fast as possible (as you will have to go back later on and improve some times if you don't). Also to get a Mario Kart style speed boost at the beginning of each level accelerate when you hear the last beep as the light turns green.

Below is the list of missions as well as the time needed to get a Gold on each one. You have to get a Gold on all 57 missions before you have the ability to earn ANY Platinum medals! I found the easiest level to get platinum on for me was Beeton Tracks.

Once you've unlocked and earned gold medals on every stage, you'll unlock time attack mode for the carrier stages as well as the bonus stages. Now, earn gold medals for your time attack time and you'll unlock the ability to attempt to earn a platinum medal from a yet-faster completion of each stage.

This achievement requires you to achieve a platinum medal in any one stage. You can choose any stage that you wish, but I'd particularly recommend attempting this on Simian Acres - while the time threshold is tight, the stage's layout is straightforward. A video guide for this stage is below:

If you're interested in attempting to earn platinum medals in the other stages, refer to the video included under "Pedal to the Medal" for a video guide with platinum times demonstrated for every stage in the game. You may also find this helpful for the initial step of earning gold medals in all stages.
