How to unlock the Those Who Fight Furthest achievement in Rare Replay - Definitive Guide

Even on Easy, the AI can be pretty unforgiving, but you can basically skip every fight except Gargos if you have 2 controllers.

1. Start arcade and add player 2. While selecting characters, BOTH players need to hold cn_down and press cn_B which will select the sky stage.
2. Defeat player 2 and don't continue. This will resume the single player arcade.
3. Each fight up until Gargos will take place on the sky stage.
4. To win, all you have to do is knock your opponent off the stage. I found this easiest by using Sabrewulf and spamming his cn_leftcn_rightcn_B attack. I was usually able to ring out on the first or second attempt. Most of my fights were over in 3 seconds or less!
5. For Gargos, you're on the normal stage and he's quite difficult, even on easy.
6. The best strategy I found was to use Jago (if you lose, you can resume on Gargos with any character) and do a jump fierce kick, followed by a low fierce kick. (Fierce kick is cn_RT). This seemed to connect most of the time and the low kick knocks him down so you can reposition to attack again.
7. Once Gargos is in danger, you'll need to uppercut him off the stage. This is the trickiest part, but if you were spamming the kicks, you should have plenty of health. For Jago, this is cn_rightcn_downcn_downrightcn_RB. Honestly, I just mashed the quarter circle and bumper until I hit him. Only took a couple tries to connect. The whole process took me 3 attempts.
* You might also have luck continuing as Sabrewulf and continuing to spam the same attack, since it already ends in an uppercut.

Hope this was helpful! Tried to make it as easy to follow as possible :)

To add, if on the character bio screen you enter the code cn_back cn_X cn_A cn_RSl (that's press left on the right thumb stick) cn_A cn_back you unlock all the settings in the options menu. From there, turn cheap juggles on and blocking off. With that I was able to win with Sabrewulf after a couple of tries once I got the towards-away-rt combo down. For the record, credit for this goes to: http://www.xboxachievements.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6644298...

Thanks so much! I tried to do the final fight with Jago, but could not get much done lol I changed back to Sabrewulf and took him out on the second try. Great thing about Sabrewulf combo used all along is it has a finishing uppercut also, so need to change up moves.

I'm actually gonna add that to the solution, since it is valid. I couldn't pull it off with Sabrewulf, but I had good success with Jago, so that's why I included that! :)

Sabrewulf the entire way. Whipped gargos' ass the 2nd round and just half circle and spammed the RB button until he got launched off the level. Good solution!

I'm terrible at these fighting games, and this actually allowed me to finish this achieve. Thank you!

You must have been pretty lucky I ASK NO ONE, Gargos just blocks most of my attacks with sabrewulf. Some times I can get his health bar down once but not more than that.

Ok, just did it. As Sabrewulf, had much better luck on Gargos spamming cn_leftcn_rightcn_Y and the occasional cn_leftcn_rightcn_B. He didn't really block the Y attacks.

Gargos seemed to block Sabrewulf's cartwheel attack for me almost every time, but the Jago strategy worked great for me! Thank you!

First try with green health still. Piece of piss. Cartwheel attack all the way then finish with a uppercut. Thanks very much for the tips!

I also put on the cheap juggling and no block as in the comment by xxxicenturymatt above.

Yes, definitely easier without blocking.

Also had to put on no blocking, otherwise the game is bullshit.

The cn_leftcn_right cn_B combo doesn't knock opponents off the edge for me

Ugh I have always hated fighting games and I can't even touch the ice dude with Sabrewulf. These achievements are going to make me pull my effing hair out

This guide is great! Unfortunately for me i couldnt do it with sabrewulf, so i followed ozbrithians guide below this one, went with maya, blocking off etc etc and smashed it in one, if you press down and rt she does an uppercut sort of move, easily beat gargarse this way

I followed this solution up to step 5 with no problems.

Against Gargos still with Sabrewulf, I used back forward RT to weaken him. Once his health was flashing red, I used my ultra combo: back forward Y for the cartwheel attack, and as soon as he starts doing that animation hold back, then press forward A for the ultra. Easy.

If you still follow these comments Exe I would definitely put the no blocking and cheap juggling into your guide as others in the comments have stated. It's a well written guide but i got up to Gargos and realised I could have used that and struggled on him for about 20min

So how do you activate the cheats? I press the combo during the bio section, i hear the announcer make a noise, but no options are available.

Excellent guide. A little tip for using Saberwulf's 'LEFT-RIGHT-Y' combo is to use the analogue stick, rather than the D-Pad. You'll find you can attack much faster and Gargos won't even get a chance to swing a punch. Got it the first time once I'd switched.

Stuck it out with Sabrewulf for the full sequence of fights, ended up having more trouble beating Tusk than Gargos strangely enough. The Left-Right-RT combo is pretty much exclusively what i used to beat every fight, with a few retries in there for good measure, mainly owing to lack of skill / timing

I beat Gargos with Sabrewulf.

Forward, back, B and then switching it up to
Forward, back, Y along with a
jump kick in and there put him down pretty easily.

For those having trouble getting the sky stage, because it took me a friggin while. What worked for me was just having Player 2 select their character with Down+B, then have player 1 do the same.

Nothing about holding buttons, or at the same time. Just make sure Player 2 does it before Player 1.

The left right RT combo with Sabrewulf got me through the game. And using down + RT as closely as possible to the enemy when they get knocked down. I absolutely suck at fighting games and I was able to run through all the fights in about 30-45 minutes total, so if you're struggling with this, just keep practicing and find your rhythm and you'll eventually get there

Real talk. For the people out there that spent their childhood being bullied by your older brother on a fighting game. This is for you…

I used to always just spam buttons and hope for the best back in the day and that’s what I adopted here. I used everything I read in the comments and posts etc. and this is what I can up with.

Use this post to get to the final boss and then buckle in. I used the wolf and essentially just went to town wiggling my left stick, left to right non stop, I did not stop wiggling until he was DEAD. In combination with the wiggle I just constantly spammed the Y BUTTON and RT. This is my pure luck approach if anyone is struggling like me.

I had lots of runs where I just got destroyed doing this, lots of runs where I got insanely close, one run where he had 1hp and laughed in my face :( but eventually I got into a flurry of luck where during my wiggles I was blocking everything and hitting him with absolutely everything, this button mashing involves now and again doing a backflip which is what you need to finish him off completely which again by sheer luck and mashing I hit him off and won.

Hope this helps another terrible fighting game player out there like me! Best of luck!

Ok so here is a solution for people who SUCK at fighting games. It worked for me should work for you. It's just super dooper cheap.

Set game to easy.
Set game speed to slow. (dunno if this helps but it's what I did).
Arcade as Maya.

Divekick by jumping forward plus FK (Right Trigger). Enemy may or may not block and may or may not counter but keep trying.

When you get next to enemy do Down plus FK. This does a launching kick similar to Mortal Kombat's uppercuts. This will knock the enemy down when they land. When they get back up have another Down+FK waiting for him.

The only enemies who gave me trouble were Tusk and the final boss. With those guys I had to bait them into attacking, blocked it, and did the divekick while he recovered.

If you have trouble remember you have infinite continues so keep trying. And don't worry about being pathetically cheap. Who will ever know?

MrPawl added:

Great tip, worked really well. Only will add after you kick do another jump forward so you are right next to them when they get up. Found it a lot more consistent then walking forward.

If you don't like this solution please tell me why in the comments.

This worked perfectly combined with MrPawl's suggestion. I almost think the game starts to feel bad for you because even using the trick with Maya I lost a few fights but on the third try, even on the boss, it was a cakewalk.

Mate, this worked PERFECTLY! Tried it with sbrewulf and spamming, just was not working, but this worked first time esepcially with the blocking turned off and cheap juggles turned on lol
