How to unlock the A Pirate's Life achievement in Rebel Galaxy - Definitive Guide

A little way into the game, but still in your first system, you'll start to encounter blue targets known as 'traders', mostly at warp with you.

All you need to do is press cn_Y while near them (even in warp) to hail them. Then choose to intimidate him to drop his cargo.

If you can't find any traders at warp, try using pulse to find some friendly blue targets, they'll most likely be merchant traders. They can sometimes be found near space stations.

HI there,

I just started playing a few days ago and have been trying your guide but for some reason all the traders would rather die. I have failed to make them dump cargo more than 40 times. I have neutral ratings across the board.

Am I doing something wrong?

The only reason they may refuse to drop their cargo is because they feel they can best you in a fight. Upgrade your ship more and try again. Also try to find smaller trading vessels smile

Difficulty: Easy

You can see Merchants both on the game map, or out and about visiting stations. While looking at a nearby merchant press cn_T to hail the merchant and then threaten them to drop their cargo.
This doesn't always work and you will have to fight them if they refuse.
In my experience, the bigger and more powerful your ship, the more likely they are to pay up.

Note: If you struggle to catch up to a merchant then you can head to the station you think they're travelling to and wait, or look for a mission involving mining, or defending miners, as these usually have merchants in the area.

Note: Shooting a merchant will cause them to attack if you inflict significant damage.

I got this soon after getting Skull and Crossbones, in which you become neutral to the Red Devil cartel. I stopped at a distress signal where the Red Devils were attacking a lone merchant ship. I hailed them and told them to dump cargo, and it popped.

To pirate a merchant, simply hail them then ask them to surrender their cargo. If they agree, then the trophy is yours but if they don't then combat ensues though blowing them up doesn't count. Pirating a ship like this doesn't suddenly make you a pirate or ruin the game. The way the faction system works is based on points accrued and a single act of pirate merely deducts a few points from the Citizenry faction so you can effectively play part-time pirate. providing you do stuff to keep the rep neutral e.g. do missions or rescue traders in distress. This also means playing a pirate is viable for the story. There's also an incentive to play as a pirate because pirate stations offer unique ships like the Hellion and openly trade on contraband, plus every system has at least 2-3 pirate stations.

In the dialogue with the merchant (ship with the Trader marker), you can select the option "Drop the cargo...!" This lowers Citizenry's reputation. The merchant can refuse and become hostile - in this case, the robbery will not be counted. Or he may agree and drop the load - then they will give you a trophy. The probability of a positive outcome is random, it seems to depend on the coolness of the player’s ship.

It’s easier to do it towards the end or middle of the game, when you already have a good ship with serious guns, by flying to one of the initial systems and shaking up the traders there.

After purchasing a dreadnought and installing the entire Mk6, any merchant is susceptible to robbery.
