You can see Merchants both on the game map, or out and about visiting stations. While looking at a nearby merchant press
to hail the merchant and then either buy or sell something.Note: If you struggle to catch up to a merchant then you can head to the station you think they're travelling to and wait, or look for a mission involving mining, or defending miners, as these usually have merchants in the area.
Note: Shooting a merchant will cause them to attack and you will lose any chance of trading with them.

When you're ready and still in your first system, fly at full speed, but not at warp, and use your pulse scanner
to find local targets etc. You should be able to find lone friendly (blue) targets floating around, these are usually your merchants, known as 'Traders' in-game.Simply approach the trader and press
when prompted to 'hail' him. Now make a simple transaction of buying or selling and the achievement will pop.

You'll encounter many merchants (they're called Traders) in Rebel Galaxy. Trading with them is a smart move as they will always sell something to you at very low prices or buy something from you at very high prices. Target them then initiate dialogue to get the trade option. The trader will pick something randomly from their hold to sell to you and something randomly from yours to buy. You can use this to exploit trade, by jettisoning (hit Options then 
/
) every cheap thing you have and keeping that 1 thing you want to sell at a great price (the trader has only 1 thing to pick so picks that), then tractor-beaming everything back when you're done.
