The way the game measures difficulty and therefore scales the enemies with you, is measured by the ranks of your modules, rather than the size of your ship hull so the game spawns tougher enemies if you had a MK3 shield than if you had a Destroyer hull. However the game also has fixed difficulty jumps so don't expect to sail through the game with MK1 modules, as the game will expect a certain level of upgrades at certain story points and systems. Also, success in combat is largely determined by your modules and their ranks, rather than your ship hull. While bigger ships offer more broadsides and turrets and offer more hull strength (your armour), you trade off speed and agility. Which ship you buy is entirely up to you and your playstyle, since the focus is on your modules. For this trophy simply buy your first new ship.
