To get an Awesome requires you to have 10,000 points from a single continuous drift without hitting anything. Doing so will double the score and net you with 20,000+ points with the words "Awesome" on screen. Achievement will pop immediately.
Recommend using a Super XR at ~350PI on Smuggler's Run. The latter half of the track is perfect for string together turns. I pulled off 15,000 points without even trying.
