Gold Rush

You earned 70 Gold Medals in Story missions.

How to unlock the Gold Rush achievement in Red Dead Redemption 2 - Definitive Guide

This guide is split into sections; Introduction, Tips & Tricks, General Tips for recurring objectives (Accuracy, time etc.), New Save method, REPLAY method and finally Video walkthrough.

Introduction.
There are a total of 104 Gold Medals you can achieve just from story missions. (NOT strangers)
You are able to replay missions from any chapter by pressing start cn_start and selecting "PROGRESS". From here head into "STORY", it's the first tile you open up to, here you can select any chapter and replay any mission.

Tips, Tricks and information.
You MUST achieve all objectives in ONE playthrough. You can't play a mission and complete 1 objective and replay it again for another. You also can't transfer gold medals to another save. If you get 35 medals in one save, then create a new save, you must get greater than 35 medals for your achievement tracker to continue to make progress.

You can’t get a “FAIL” or “DEAD” screen if your objectives include overall time, headshots, or accuracy. If you do you must restart the mission from the beginning
Pausing the game WON'T effect time.

General Tips for recurring objectives(Accuracy & Time):

New Save Method

Make sure to save your game after EVERY mission! The autosave feature can be very buggy/frozen, count023 said they lost 14 medals because of this broken feature.

You could use a money exploit near the start of the game or grind side missions for money so you can buy better guns, chewing tobacco and other tonics, better equipment and a better horse early on. Create a save before every mission, and reload the save if you fail the mission/objectives.

REPLAY Method

The replay method is useful once you complete the game, as you should have a couple of gold medals under your belt already. Your current gear carries over to the replay mission, so you can stock up on ammo and tonics before replaying a mission. If you open the video walkthrough section you will find that I have rated each mission based on how difficult I found them. You can simply look at the easiest missions and choose to replay them. (I need to emphasise that these ratings are based on how I personally found each mission.)

You can't carry over completed objectives from one playthrough to the next, you must complete all the objectives in one playthrough.

Video Walkthroughs (provided by GtaSeriesVideos)

I have added a star rating next to each mission which displays the mission difficulty in my opinion. This is based on the rating I got on each mission, how many replays it took me and whether I needed a guide. A "★☆☆☆☆" rating says that a mission is the most difficult. A "★★★★★" rating means I completed it with ease. Again, this rating doesn't mean the missions will be easy/hard for YOU, but it's a useful tag to give you an idea of my playthrough.

Objectives may include spoilers, proceed with caution.

Thanks for noting the missions along with requirements for a gold medal.

Especially they have to be done in one playthrough, it cannot be done through multiple like in GTA V (time constraints in one, then accuracy in another).

Positive upvote from me.

Just a theory, that I'm pretty sure is correct, but I've noticed that if I die and reload checkpoints, things like the 80% accuracy and headshot count do not get checked off. It is safe to assume that the mission must be done flawlessly in order to get the medal. This is shaping up to be a pretty unforgiving achievement.

I would like to add that they are not checking off because I am not getting the requirements. I will hit every single shot, and get more than enough headshots, and still fail to have them ticked off. Sort of frustrating.

Just a quick tip that I just figured out is that while in mission you can tap left on the dpad to bring up the mission click on that and rb along to the checklist so you can see the list of things as your doing it

Some great feedback and extra tips here guys!
I’ll add them to the solution ASAP

This is my least favourite achievement Rockstar seems to add to most of their games, and it looks as though I’m not alone. Any experiences, tips, issues, exploits etc.. feel free to share here!

You can also abandon the mission from pressing left on the dpad as well 👍

Every guide I have found says there are 104 missions, but on the social club it adds up to 105. It's specifically chapter 4, guides say there is 14 missions in the chapter but social club says there are 15. I am up to that point now and don't want to miss any missions. Anyone have any ideas?

Reptars advice is definitely the way to go for difficult missions. If it’s an easy mission with simple requirements then it’s easy to replay but when it’s a tougher mission you definitely want to reload saves to get it on your main run.

Like for ones where you need deadeye kills. You’re probably not getting all 10+ kills in one deadeye meter and when u have no tonics to refill you have to rely on building it up again but there probably won’t be enough enemies to recharge it to then get more kills with it so you’ll be screwed on that challenge.

It’s so stupid that it gives you so little when replaying missions I don’t understand how it even makes sense.

What are the chances R* decides to reverse their decision on the "all in one playthrough" rule? I feel like that's a real slap in the face, especially because replaying gives you like no gear whatsoever.

That being said, if you use the saving method, Chapter 3 and 4 in their entirety are super doable with some persistence. I think the most try anything took me was 3 or 4.

Some advice for these tricky time limits and headshots, USE AND ABUSE DEAD LIKE CRAZY! BUY TONICS AND USE THEM CONSTANTLY. I completed a Chapter 3 Mission that required 20 headshots, sidearms only, AND had to be done in 4 and a half minutes in just a few attempts by spamming dead eye.

If you a fail your first try and it may seem impossible, don't give up. Every failure is further familiarization with the mission making it easier and easier each time.

A quick update. I tried replaying a chapter 5 mission, and STILL had level 3 in all stats. So can confirm this game is going to try and FUCK you if you try to replay ANY mission. DON'T DO IT! IT'S NOT WORTH IT. SAVE SCUMMING BEFORE EVERY MISSION IS THE WAY TO GO!

what if you complelte a mission and choose to replay straight away when it asks, does it still take everything from you?

@Mike the owl,
Yes, each attempt has to be a clear 100% for ALL objectives which can be very very very tedious

Also, another question which might sound stupid. One of the mission requirements that keeps popping up: Complete the mission without taking any health items. Does this include Deadeye potions?

By ISC82 on 08 Nov 2018 02:04
Exactly the same problem as the above. I'm not replaying 80% of this game if I can't even work out what counts as "accuracy".

Note: I redid the first mission on a new game and still had the same issue as ISC82, so it's not related to the replay feature.

Quite concerning as it’s a recurring problem for people.
Potentially a bug in the first mission? Any problems with missions after the 1st at all?

Some obvious points to make;
-shooting an enemies hat, gun or anything that doesn’t directly “hit” an enemy will effect accuracy negatively.
-Dont shoot anything BUT enemies that appear as red blips on your radar
-Using your lasso and missing an enemy will negatively effect your accuracy

Other than these ‘tips’ my only suggestion would be to try another mission sadly. There are 105 missions and you only need 70 medals. It’s a shame to miss out on what should be an easy mission for a gold medal but you won’t be able to work around a bug until it’s patched or until you find what you’re directly doing wrong.
Feel free to record your gameplay, or write down every shot you take and send it to me so we can conclude together if it’s a bug or not.

I swear some of these are bugged, even if you hit 100% headshots (not hatshots) you will sometimes still fail the 70% or 85% accuracy challenge, same goes for not taking health items - just dead eye tabacco or not using any items all mission long, it will still fail for some reason. I even counted the time for some missions, complete it within 4 minutes, the requirement is 6 minutes but it still says you failed. Piece of crap.

I wasn't expecting a stat lock and everything in one go on top of that. That's just unneccessary.

I mean, the same achievement in GTA 5 didn't have any of those and it's still sitting at a whopping 0.08% Global Unlock percentage. Kinda doubt that this achievement will ever go above 0.01%, unless they change it.

So the objectives void for total mission time if restarting checkpoint, but restarts will not void section-specific timed objectives?

Because I just got gold on a mission that had a 5min30sec section-specific objective after reloading like 20 times.

Just found out that you can turn the kill-cam off in the settings > camera menu.
Maybe we can save a few precious seconds during missions by turning it off.
Also, still unsure if using dead-eye affects the mission timer.

Is there some kind of bug concerning the requirements? I've not gotten several gold medals because the box "Don't use any healing item" was not checked, however, I'm absolutely certain that I didn't use a healing item during the mission!?

Certain Dead Eye tonics also impact Health or Health Core, that also prevents it. Chewing Tabacco is always safe, it's all I use to be sure. :)

@Gabwe You can't die or fail if the objectives are: Headshots, Accuracy, Time (Overall) or Using Health Items

By BLACKandBIG on 12 Nov 2018 19:27
Thanks for the answers guys, but this is also what I thought. However, yesterday, I completed missions without dying and absolutely not taking any item at all, and still failed the no use health items objective... :/

Once you get used to this game this achievement doesn't seem so daunting. Make sure you always have a nice stock of chewing tobacco or snake oil. Don't bother killing anyone without using dead eye once you get the ability to place shots manually. Shooting a corpse counts as a miss I believe so I usually just went 1 head shot at a time.

Most of the missions with overall time constraints are very difficult. For chapter 2, 3, and 4 I only had two or three silver medals each chapter, with the rest being gold. Chapter 5 got me four silver medals and chapter 6 got me around the same. Epilogue 1 takes little effort for full gold.

Sorry if I missed this, do objectives carry over on each replay? If I play one mission but miss 1 or 2 objectives can I continue to replay the mission going for ONLY those objectives and still get gold?
0
0
By ResinousHashish on 25 Nov 2018 02:12
@ResinousHashish Sadly no, you must complete all objectives in one play/replay-through. This is one of the things that makes this achievement particularly difficult.

If you create a new story, do your old Golds carry over or nah? I've been replaying missions but when enemies don't drop tobacco or dead eye items, 15 headshots or horseback kills are real tough. Such a shitty achievement anyway... 60 hour story they said, only to spend 55 hours in dead eye cause regular gunplay is trash.

Gold's don't carry over to new playthroughs. For instance, playthrough number 1 you get 35 medals, the tracker will stay on 50% and only go up if you get gold's on that same playthrough or by replaying missions and getting golds. If you start a new playthrough you would have to get 36 medals then it'll start moving again. I think ch. 1-2 can easily get at least 15 medals on replays though with a video guide.

As a tiny roadmap, would getting some gold bars, a bunch of items and a horse in Saints Denis work out? Then do all missions from chapter 2 and onwards?

How realistic is the legendary thingy satchel early on? Having 99 tobacco is easier than 3 or 5 and restocking every 30 minutes.

By Sera Di Siah on 26 Nov 2018 14:55
@Sera Di Siah, that's exactly what I did!
As soon as I was able too I did the gold bar exploit and got around 10grand. I didn't bother with the satchel since I thought the time it would take to craft it I could've done an entire chapter lol. So far I need to stock up every 3 missions or so, which isn't too bad. I'm on Chapter 6 at the minute and honestly I'm not "struggling" at all. My golden rule so far is to give a mission 2 attempts then move on, I'm about 85% done and I've had no stress at all.

God, beating CupHead on Expert was less frustrating than this. Basically anything that requires more than 5 headshots is prettymuch hopeless if you are trying to get gold after finishing the game. Im at 60% (need 28 more Golds) and very close to just giving up.

My best advice if you complete the game and want to reply for gold after, DONT! You are better off starting a new game.

@ROM3L, I agree. I made a new save and got bronze in 1 mission (The one where you return the German guy to his family) and I've never had so much trouble with a mission so simple before in my life. The replay horse is useless.

@jcupmaine brilliant guide, specifically with the difficulties, making it easier to know which missions to just avoid.

Not sure if this will help anyone else, but I knocked up a spreadsheet so I can keep an eye on how many missions I've done, which in turn makes me worry less about missions I skip. Just download it, then stick a "1" in the "Gold" or "Not Gold" column and the sheet will do the rest.

Does anyone know if the medals in the online story count for this achievement as well?

By the JeffreyTM on 01 Dec 2018 04:46
You need to add that you have to manually save to keep the challenge. Autosave doesn't seem to work reliably anymore. I lost 14 medals i earned over the last day or so because the game crashed and the autosave loaded up without those 14.

@count023, Really sorry to hear this. I assume it doesn’t Auto Save right after the replay, but rather any other progress in your current save (Whcih is ridiculously broken).. I will add this to the solution, thanks for the update. Hopefully you’re able to make progress soon!

I needed 72 gold and got this in Epilogue 1. One gold was the Special Edition bank heist in Chapter 4, so that may not count. Chapter 6 sucked and I was so close, I kinda gave up until the epilogue.

Here's a list of all my GOLDS so far with how difficult I thought it was to get, a guide for the tricky parts, and whether I did it on a replay.

NOTES:

-Make sure you have lots of chewing tobacco and/or snake oil before the missions that have headshot/accuracy objectives so you can replenish your dead eye. I say snake oil and chewing tobacco because these are not health items and most missions require you to not use health items.
-Skip cutscenes for missions that have an overall time objective
-This is a do as I say not what I do tip lol but count your headshots/kills. I could probably save a lot of time if I start doing this.
-If you're not sure if you completed an objective DURING a mission REPLAY, after a checkpoint you can press left on the d-pad and check the mission objectives to see if you got a checkmark. I don't know if this takes up time though so be careful.

Chapter 4
VERY EASY CHAPTER. I GOT GOLD ON EVERY MISSION IN THIS CHAPTER SO I'LL JUST LIST THE TRICKY PARTS:
Urban Pleasures - Very easy until you have to shoot the dynamite. I made the mistake of trying to tag it when I should have been trying to shoot it. You can continuously try to shoot it and your Dead Eye won't stop. You actually unlock the ability to continuously shoot during Dead Eye (without tagging/painting) during this scene.
Country Pursuits - Do exactly what you see in the video for when you have to save Jules.
Banking, the Old American Art - When you have to crack the safe, wait for the manager to yell out the number and for your fellow gang member to tell you what it is before you rotate to it. SLOWLY rotate to the number when he tells you what it is. Go bit by bit (rotate a little, stop, rotate a little, stop) because you don't want to pass the number and "screw up".

Chapter 5
Welcome to the New World - Replay, EASY, I made the mistake of not counting my headshots, so... count your headshots haha. You don't want to have to do this mission more than once because you'll have to do the whole walking in the sun part again. But then again... every mission in this game has a lengthy sequence of nothingness before the action starts lol
A Kind and Benevolent Despot - MEDIUM, I'd say watch the video for this one so you know what do to save Javier in time. Make sure to loot guards when sneaking with Dutch to collect Dead Eye items for this and future missions. There is chewing tobacco on a barrel in the sugar room.
Savagery Unleashed - EASY, don't rush when sneaking with the guy. When you get to the hangman and hanging people, try to get, in the same Dead Eye sequence, the hangman, followed by the ropes of the three hanging people to easily beat the 4 second time limit.
Hell Hath No Fury - REPLAY. HARD because of the 4 boats objective. Basically, send one of your friends on the left and one on the right. Then, snipe the people on two boats on the right, then do two boats on the left. One of the boats on the left will explode from cannon fire. THIS BOATS DOES NOT COUNT TOWARDS THE OBJECTIVE. So do one of the other boats. If you're fast enough you might even have time to do another boat on the right.
Dear Uncle Tacitus - SUPER EASY, skip all cinematics and when you're riding the horse, go in cinematic mode when the game tells you to and mash A, your horse will know where to go. Go in the room in the southwest of the first floor and inspect the letter on the table. Wait for the guy to walk pass you and then walk right out the front door and escape on a horse. Done and done.
That’s Murfee Country - MEDIUM, the Murfee's are tough and can run at you and kill you instantly with their machetes if you're not careful. Make sure to not let Charles steal too many kills because you need lots of headshots. The horse ride back can also be tricky. I collided with someone and failed so be careful.

Chapter 6
Icarus and Friends - EASY, FIRST TRY
Visiting Hours - EASY if you know the trick: When John is freed, immediately run back to the boat. John and Sadie will follow you. You might have to serpentine to dodge the bullets flying at you.
Do Not Seek Absolution – I - EASY, first try
Do Not Seek Absolution – II - EASY, first try
The Course of True Love – V - MEDIUM, the fistfight might give you trouble. When the train starts to slow down and enemies aren't really chasing you anymore, you can run to the front of the train to drive it before the game tells you to to save time.
Just a Social Call - MEDIUM, I must've failed this mission every way imaginable: used a health item, got killed by gunfire, got killed by exploding lantern, somehow ran too far ahead and "lost" Dutch and Micah. Luckily, this is a quick mission compared to others. Get yourself a pump-action shotgun or better with lots of ammo and blast your way to the horses as you don't have to worry about accuracy. Watch a video for the path you have to take.
A Rage Unleashed - SUPER EASY, make sure to accept to help Rain Falls at the end of this mission so you don't miss a missable mission.
Honor, Amongst Thieves - MEDIUM, get to the cliff with Captain Monroe as fast as possible. When it's time to chase the stagecoach, take the path down the left side of the cliff and quickly approach the stagecoach from the right, BUT NOT TOO FAST because you might go too far ahead and the drivers will see you. To jump on the stagecoach when you're beside it, you don't have to hold any buttons or anything, the game will just tell you to press X. The vaccine is at the back left of the coach. When you retrieve it, jump out the back, get back on your horse and ride like heck to Captain Monroe.
The Delights of Van Horn - QUICK and EASY, just be good with the sniper (which I'm not, took me a few tries, but I'm still rating it easy)
Goodbye, Dear Friend - HARD, Make sure you max your Dead Eye and Dead Eye core BEFORE the mission because you won't be able to during the mission. Watch the video for the 45 second objective. Snipe enemies from right to left in the town square.
Favored Sons - EASY, first try. I think enemies spawn indefinitely when you're escaping with Dutch so make sure you get all your head shots in before you make it to the end.
The Bridge to Nowhere - EASY, first try. Instead of climbing down the ladder, jump over the railing and hope you land on the floor beneath you. This will save you some time when planting the dynamite. If you think you're taking too long on either objective I believe you can restart the checkpoints. If the train hits you while you're on the cart I think that means you should try again.
Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow – II - QUICK and EASY
The Fine Art of Conversation - HARD, your pump-action shotgun is your best friend here. Make sure to kill an enemy's horse when you're escaping. When Monroe's horse is shot and you have to go on foot, go kill the enemies in the forest where the red glow on your mini map is, then go back to the road to kill the enemies there. I did not bother with cover. Just play it quick and safe if you can and run up right to the enemies and blast them away. A stagecoach will also arrive, throw dynamite at it as it stops to kill everyone on board and save you time. Time is of the essence here so you have to be quick, plus you can't use health items.
My Last Boy - EASY, first try
Our Best Selves - EASY, second try
Red Dead Redemption - MEDIUM because of a sniping part and a time-based objective at the beginning. Watch the video for those. This is a long mission and there is a fistfight that you can still die from at the end so be careful.

EPILOGUE PART 1
The Wheel - REPLAY, SUPER EASY
Simple Pleasures - SUPER EASY

ARCHEOLOGY FOR BEGINNERS - NOTE, I think you can restart the one and only checkpoint with objectives in this mission if you screw up. I did not get gold but I restarted the checkpoint several times and I still got the time-based objective. I did not get the stealth-based objective because no matter what I did, the guy sitting at the campfire was alerted as soon as I stepped into the yellow area, and this would happen every single time on two different attempts of this mission. My game must've been glitched or something.

I just replayed "We Loved Once and True III" and failed in between the mission. I loaded the checkpoint right before the chase started. I completed the mission and got the gold medal.
I am wondering why I got it. Aren't we supposed to fulfill every task in the same playthrough of a mission without failing or starting a checkpoint? Did Rockstar change the requirements with the last patch or was it a mere accident?

Or did I get anything wrong and we are allowed to load checkpoints? I am quite confused :-D

@VirusTk GaMBit, The requirements for that mission only have 2 mission challenges; To return Jamie in 2 minutes and to peacefully convince the Chelonians to let you take him.

Failing the mission at that specific point won’t harm your ability to peacefully take him away- That’s why that requirement wasn’t effected when restarting.
The 2 minutes to return Jamie was a single timed event within the mission, not a requirement which asks to complete the entire mission in a certain time limit, and as far as the checkpoint was concerned you hadn’t started the timed chase.. I suppose that’s why it let you finish the mission and get gold :)

When I mention “Finish a mission in a single playthrough”, you are still allowed checkpoints for SOME missions which have very specific requirements- Like returning Jamie, or peacefully taking him~ this mission luckily have the specific conditions, and you got a great checkpoint that didn’t touch the requirements.

I hope this helps :D

Also @jcupmaine the Chapter 6 Mission Visiting Hours should be rated as 5 stars. There is a trick that makes it very easy to get gold on this mission. When you get to the front gate of the prison, just turn around and run back to the boat. John and Sadie will follow you automatically. Don't bother shooting any enemies on your way to the boat. This guarantees you will meet the time requirements. To fulfil the 80% accuracy requirement, just use dead eye to snipe the two guards from the watchtower at the start. Then shoot the guys on the shore when you are escaping in the boat.

You need to add that redoing already golded medals doesnt add to the counter as they have already been golded. So losing medals doesnt matter since the game has already made a note of it. Loading earlier saves where missions werent golded and golding them again does nothing.

I want to mention a small hint to make things easier on the mission "The New South". If you get hit by the Anderson guy, just let yourself be killed and load up the checkpoint. It will put you just before the fight is about to start and it will still reward you with the gold medal if you manage to get him knocked out without being hit by him. Also, don't block his punches. That's counted as a hit by him, too.

It's still a tough fight, but it makes the mission overall pretty doable on a replay. The time-related task is super easy, as is catching a fish.

If that's already mentioned somewhere above, I apologize. Didn't read all the comments.

There is a fine, helpful trick for "The new South":

Just skip the checkpoint before the fight, it will still check off the first two objectives! I tested it yesterday and it works. You can find it here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBeAclx6ZhA

I managed to get 70 Gold medals via replay, so it is absolutely doable.

@N1klas1997, this issue is quite common, even with other titles on Xbox One, I'm trying to find a conclusive solution for this problem so I can add it to this guide.
For now try this (if you have the game on disk);
-Uninstall the game
-Go to network settings on the dashboard
-select "go offline"
-Re-install the game
- load up your game save and manually save it again ,in a new slot
-Close the game, re-connect to Xbox Live and it might have caught up with your progress.
Let me know if this works. I'm trying to find a solution for the digital version too

I downvoted as your guide is based on a new playthrough instead of replaying missions. Also, some of the videos need timestamps added to the URL, as many show stuff that are prerequisites for the missions such as the three-part missions. Some of these videos have 11 minutes of riding a horse to the mission start, which is unnecessary.

Thanks for respectfully responding to fair criticism. Too many solution writers just cry.

I continued to use your guide as I skipped past your intro and only noticed it from the videos. The solution has helped a bit and it will help others, so don’t apologise. It’s a well written guide but there is a different solution posted below and uses a replay method. Upvoting that one and downvoting yours is to push the other one up, but it’s not me voting on the quality of the guide. The most effective guide should be at the top, and yours would mean a new playthrough, which isn’t time effective. I can see why you would want to use better gear and tobacco but that may not be the best solution.

It is valid to downvote guides which are not the quickest way. Moderators can confirm that. I would prefer to see the other guide at the top.

I hope I see more of your guides around TA though, you do a good job and respect the comments.

For chapter 3 "The New South".
Maybe someone wrote it here before, but I can confirm that you can shot Anders Anderson when you mess up the fight, reload the checkpoint and still can get a gold medal.
I had so much trouble with that one as it seems kinda glitched or luck based.
After MANY tries the following worked for me.
Let him come close, grab him (Y), throw him on ground (press left stick), immediatly dismiss him (X), then kick him (B) till he's K.O. All other methods didn't work for me, even this one took a few tries.

If you're willing to put up with the walking and talking, you can do the Skip Checkpoint cheese on your replay of Country Pursuits for the most difficult objective
-Return Jules to the skiff within 1 minute 40 seconds

Don't hop out and just let him drown. After you start back up, pop into dead eye and shoot the gator 5 times for an easy gold.

Seems like something that might get patched in a future update. Someone please DM me if it does and I'll delete this comment--I don't want people to waste time in this mission's first 15 minutes of walking and talking.

Since honor means nothing during mission replay, when you're robbing the passengers in Pouring Forth Oil – IV, you can use deadeye to kill 3 of them them. The game's scripting refills your deadeye gauge at the baggage car (so you can do 4 headshots there while you kill all the train guards before Sean fires a shot). Now you're up to 7 kills in deadeye.

There's a cigar in the baggage car to refill your deadeye for the remaining 3 kills.

A really helpful hint on timed missions is that your time freezes when you have the cinematic camera active. It really helped me with Friends in Very Low Places.

Peaches 518 - can you confirm this? I find it hard to believe without disrespect. That would totally void the whole idea of time based missions as you could just sit in cinematic mode during all “get from point ‘a’ to point ‘b’ in X time”??

Yes. I first found it mentioned in this thread: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/200179-red-dead-redempt..., but it's popped up quite a bit elsewhere if you look at threads where people talk about getting gold.

I assume it's not intentional, so it doesn't really matter if it just "voids the whole idea of time based missions".

Great guide, very helpful. Just got the cheev. Woof. This was a tough one. I don't actually think that the cinematic camera stops the clock, but on a couple missions where it prompts you to put on the cinematic camera, like friends in very low places, it acts as a kind of unofficial gold medal requirement. I did that mssion 3 times - 2, perfectly, then got silver. Tried again and did cinematic while trelawny did his thing and boom - gold.

Yeah, I was thinking about that the other day and came back in to say the same thing. If it's treating sections like that like a cut scene, it'd explain both why it happens and why the time limit is so tight when they're usually not that hard.

Thanks to @jcupmaine for the guide. I just want to echo a couple of posts that stated you should start each mission with full chewing tobacco and snake oil, as they DO NOT count against the "no health items" objective. I've done multiple missions like this and can definitely confirm. I also would echo a post earlier that said to just go ahead and pull up a site that has all the objectives listed out for you as you play the actual campaign. I went from getting no golds to a gold almost every time. I used PowerPyx's RDR2 website for this: http://www.powerpyx.com/red-dead-redemption-2-gold-medals-gu.... I also would encourage a manual save before each mission in order to allow for tracking back. Learning from your mistakes with all the guns, best horses, and an inventory full of items is much better than what replaying the missions provides you with.

I just got this and did it pretty much entirely in replay mode (started with 4-5 golds from regular play). It was time consuming and having a terrible horse makes quite a few of the missions seem impossible (and some of them may well be tbh), but I didn't really struggle on too many of the ones I did. One major issue I see people having with doing it via replays is the terrible low level dead eye you get. That's true, but if you minimise your use of it it's honestly not bad enough to make the missions requirements undoable. Aim at someone first, nudge the right stick up and pop into dead eye just as it hits the head, then shoot once and immediately come out. Make sure to cock/reload your gun outside of dead eye and never cover any significant distance whilst scoped in dead eye.

@Breedhate68, I know where you're coming from - I replayed so many missions and ended up shouting "WHAT!?" because I know I did the mission criteria.

The only thing I can suggest is skipping that mission, there might be a bug I haven't picked up on yet, if you decide to keep retrying it just be careful of every shot. Restart the mission from start if you get a "Fail" or "Dead" screen, generally re-read the solution as the tips I've found helpful are in there. Good luck!

Yes, I did it all via replay. It is entirely possible. Just takes a lot of time, skill and a bit of luck.

Here is my full list of golds:

C1: Outlaws from the west, Enter pursued by memory, Eastward bound, The aftermath of genesis

C2: All missions except The Sheep and the Goats, An american pastoral scene and I even missed a missable mission here, only on 17/18 total progress, think it's one of the pouring forth oil missions?

C3: All missions except Sodom? Back to Gomorrah, The new south, American distillation, A short walk in a pretty town, The fine joys of tobacco

C4: The joys of civilisation, Urban pleasures, The gilded cage, No no and thrice no, Fatherhood and other dreams 2, Help a brother out, Brothers and sisters one and all, American fathers 2

C5: Welcome to the new world, A kind and benevolent despot

C6: all missions except Our best selves, My last boy, Favoured sons, The king's son, Red dead redemption

E1: All missions except Jim milton rides again

E2: Bare knuckle friendships, A new jerusalem, A really big bastard, A new future imagined, Home improvement for beginners, Trying again

I did all the 70 medals in replay mode. Either I am just a fucking pro, or you guys are terrible. Sorry for my attitude, but I was reading comments here before even trying it myself and I was terrified that I had to start a second playthrough, and that was the reason was keeping me from starting it. It took me 3 days to get the achievement (around 18 hours overall), and it wasn't even that bad as people like to say. You can use your upgraded weapons in replay (not in every mission, but in most of them) , plus if you need more dead eye, you can loot bodies for chewing tobacco. This achievement more than DOABLE

In the Fatherhood for idiots if you trouble with time, abandon the mission when you make the turn towards the farm at the end of the mission. Then retry checkpoint and you'll respawn next to the lavender field while the timer gets reset. Easy gold.

Also for a new Jerusalem, you can change the tap settings to hold in controller settings. Then hold A everytime it's white and release it when it's grayed out.

Hope this help you with 2 easy golds.

Just got this today, it really is more than doable after the update that lets you carry over stats, weapons, items and horse. Only thing I'd say is to look around for other lists to see what people consider to be an easy mission. There were "easy" missions listed here that I had to give up on, and there were medium level missions that I got on the first try.

Can’t express enough how helpful this video was for “A New South.”
Most people struggle with the fight, but I believe my game was glitched because the only one I couldn’t get was the taking him in in 5 minutes 30 seconds. I followed the GTA series video exactly and it would still not check off despite that being a very long time in comparison to other time requirements. Thanks for the great find from the person way up above!

I would say the best strategy would be to aim for 4 star and 5 star missions in this guide, as well as any additional ones from EggplantMan69’s guide down below. Doing this I had 65/70 going into Epilogue 1 and 2 with 13 potential missions to get gold on. These ones are also much easier and shorter and usually allow you to replay checkpoints based on the requirements. I wouldn’t spend more than 3 attempts at a mission before moving on to something else considering how many are possible to complete. Just takes a good amount of patience

So the motherhood clip. Its 15 min long but the obective is to complete in 1 minute 30 seconds. Makes me wonder whether the cut scenes count towards the time. Many people say they do, others say they don't. But every time I watch the cutscenes I fail the time limit. So, I think this clip guide is a bit misleading because it shows all cutscenes without legit confirmation of whether or not they count towards the timer. Either way, I don't blame clip creators or guide editors. I blame Rockstar's lazy incompetence.

This achievement in its own right would not be the worse. Getting headshots/accuracy/not using items is easily doable with proper management. The time objectives though, this is what causes this achievement to burn in hell. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put such ridiculous time restraints in this game must have been smoking crack. You can do a mission perfectly and still not get the time requirement. R* does know this isn't a platformer or racing game don't they?

Only time itself slows down when you're in Deadeye, not the mission timer. If you have trouble with a time objective, stop using so much Deadeye.

Some of the difficulty ratings are way off from my experience. A lot of the timed objectives are very very frustrating and this guide has them rated easy and then has the combat heavy, and most fun, missions as more difficult when the combat is relatively simple and manageable. I'd recommend looking elsewhere for more up to date info on which missions to spend your time on.

By Zarda1 on 18 May 2022 17:42
Hey Zarda1, as you explain, experience plays a lot into my ratings. I do find combat missions in general, among most games, more difficult than strategical/time based challenges.

I do emphasise a few times in this walkthrough that the ratings I've given are based entirely on my experience.

That said, your feedback is useful as I could mention my playstyle in my solution. I hope it was helpful in some ways regardless :)

Epilogue missions DO NOT COUNT unless you finish a chapter based mission on goldrank afterwards.

I started tracking this with 84%. 70 times .84 equals 58.8.
I finished 59 missions in Chapters 1-6 and 6 in Epilogue 1 and . wich sum up to 64 (wich should equal 91%.)
It remained stuck at 84%. Once I got more chapter missions in, the procentage went up again and by the amount of the epilogue percentages.

I have been struggling with accuracy based ones. 2nd mission first chapter. Kill all wolves with no damage and 80% accuracy. All shots hit bit not registering for some reason

For the life of me I cannot do any mission with accuracy and timing. I follow the guides perfectly and always get headshots and nothing but silver.

I finally got this. My strategy was doing the shortest and easiest missions first, then doing the missions without time requirements because most of them are tedious as hell. Headshot and accuracy requirements are super easy, just use dead eye and quickly drink a snake oil when it's empty. (Don't let your core drain.) Do these and you'll eventually get the achivement. It will still drive you mad though :)

For this, as well as the walkthrough, it would be immensely helpful to know who you get the missions from. Most of the time I need to start the mission before I know which one it is. This makes it harder to find out which character gives you a timed or optional mission and which character might give you a mission that advances you to the next chapter.

Also... it is absolutely impossible to get Angelo Bronte, a Man of Honour done in 10:40. I did everything perfectly and am 30 seconds slower.

Your current gear carries over to the replay mission, so you can stock up on ammo and tonics before replaying a mission
Fairly sure that's not true. If you have all the 'gear' at the end of the game, and replay early missions, all your fully upgraded guns are gone and you're given weak default weapons. Maybe that's not what's meant by 'gear' though - they mean your satchel, bandolier, holsters, belts, and trinkets, etc?
Either way, it's definitely easier to go for Gold Rush during a playthrough and restarting/reloading the mission if you fail, not via Mission Replay. This way you've already got an idea of what to do when you retry and you have much better 'gear' (equipment/weaponry). Just be aware of which missions to simply accept a silver or bronze on - the first being 'Who the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall?' in Ch.1 (no damage is pretty much random/luck).

Sorry again, but wanted to add to my previous comment without just editing so that you see it in case you add it to your guide because it's an important tip.

If you plan to go for golds as you play through, SAVE BEFORE EVERY MISSION. If you attempt and fail, you can just quickly reload and try again. That's what I've been doing. Sure it will lengthen the time it takes to beat the game, but it will vastly lower my game time in the end game, as I will not have to reload missions later with lesser abilities!

Since there are about 34 missions of leeway, I think it would be extremely helpful if we could all decide on which of the missions we should be skipping the gold medals for.

So far I have gold on everything in Ch.1 and Ch.2., but decided to skip these combat missions:
Ch.1: Old Friends, Who the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall?
Ch.2: Paying a Social Call, Blessed are the Meek?, An American Pastoral Scene (by far the hardest time trial so far)

Some of the time objective ones are set far too strict and near impossible. Some that have accuracy and other objectives don't tick off at the end when you know you landed all shots and didn't restart checkpoints. Some missions are more time-consuming than others and not worth doing several runs. Some have to be skipped if you already beat the mission and no longer have a fighting chance with the nerfed equipment, horse, and stats in replay mode.

Lots of reasons to be skipping missions, if anyone else can advise which missions to not bother with, would be greatly appreciated!

If you ever have to restart a checkpoint in a mission for whatever reason, dying, failing and objective, etc, the following challenges are void no matter what:

-Headshots
-Accuracy
-Total Mission Time (Not sure if void, but I think the timer keeps going so it makes this impossible)
-No Use of Health Items

If you get a "Failed" screen, if you want to be able to complete the objectives you must restart the entire mission. From what I can tell, simply holding X in that subscreen is enough.

After reading the advice here I decided to go back and see if I can gold all of chapter 1 and 2 before I go any further but the very first mission, Outlaws from the West is killing me. I have replayed it four times now and it is just not giving me the 80% accuracy when I never missed a shot in three of those attempts. Even in the one that I did miss a single shot on the man in the top window, I went for body shots on the remaining men and that was easily three clips. Anyone else having issues replaying these missions? I don't want to waste my time and definitely do not want to start again as I have just been mainly free-roaming, hunting, doing side missions and completing all of the very tedious gambling challenges.

*PS. I know that a hit is indicated by a red reticle.

If anyone’s having trouble getting the Gold on ‘A New South’ having to beat Anders Anderson without getting hit I made a clip here to help those who wanna beat him without getting hit.
Plus if you do get hit you can instantly restart checkpoint and it won’t effect the run for Gold. I found him to be the most frustrating lol!

M I K 3 ID v playing Red Dead Redemption 2

As you’re walking towards him instantly go for the grapple using Y, then try put him to the ground by clicking the left stick. Then dismiss by pressing X. Then try shimmy behind him and press B to choke hold him. Won’t work the first time so Choke hold him press dismiss with X then press B immediately after and then Arthur will auto choke him out. Took me 20 or so tries as sometime putting him to the ground would make him glitch but with a bit of trail and error is doable :)

Anyone managed to pull this off using reply? I'm almost finished doing my 100% playthrough, I dont want to re-play the entire game to be honest. Just do story missions. If no one can confirm they did it using replay, i'll start a new save.

@LuckyConquerer2, Really happy with your response, thank you for taking the time to talk. I think it’s important for people to know that they can disagree and still get along just fine laugh

Yeah I hadn’t noticed the other solution(s), I must admit. I’ll give It a read through now. As I mentioned; I do appreciate people putting the time into these guides. Also seeing my mistake earlier and knowing that there IS another solution opens my eyes a bit more compared to when I wrote my first reply.

I misunderstood at first, I assumed that you expected my solution to contain every method possible for someone to choose from. I understand now that you were actually saying the issue is that the most readily available guide (this) isn’t necessarily the most efficient. (Although, the efficiency of your playthrough is down to what you personally have left to replay-should you choose that route, and other factors that might make either solution more/less efficient) If a different solution outweighs mine in upvotes then I respect that the majority of people prefer that to be at the top~ you’re completely right. Thanks again.

@P33Man - I'm quite confused as to what you mean, sorry.

The solution says that you can't carry gold medals across saves, so you can't get 30 medals in save A, start a new save in slot B and have the same 30 medals already done.

If you mean that you can't keep replaying the same mission to keep getting gold medals on 1 easy mission - then you're correct. I'll consider adding it but I'm not sure if it's necessary since the description indicates medals are earned across mission(S) (plural)

Sorry if this doesn't help, feel free to explain further and I'll definitively consider your feedback and adding it to the solution. Thank you

This achievement requires a lot of gold. I did 77 gold medals, and obviously got the achievement. No solution was 100% effective for me. I took some tips from different solutions. The real difficulty from each mission is very variable from person to person. Many missions marked as easy was hard for me and many missions marked as medium or difficult was easy for me. Keep in mind, the most important thing is NEVER do the missions through REPLAY MISSON option.

Just exactly before start each mission I made a manual save, so, played the mission. On the end of mission, If I did not win gold, I tried again loading my manual save. All my 77 gold medals was made this way.

The REPLAY MISSION option sucks! You don't carry your stuff (items, tonics, etc), your weapons (with your ammo types and upgrades), your player stats upgrades and your horse stats upgrades. This turns the process for get gold medals very hard.

In the earlier chapters where you have the lower level auto-paint dead eye targeting it actually helps to NOT have the aim assist activated as headshot and accuracy goals can suffer: The auto-aim tends to put the target on the enemy’s chest, meaning you have to move the crosshair upwards, tagging the target 2-3 times more than is required. Sometimes this will kill the enemy before the headshot. Prime example of this is Blessed are The Meek, which is extremely hard to Gold with auto-targeting at its highest level.

Did this in replay. Used a combination of these guides above, and youtube vid searches. I also used videos by a guy named Platinum Chaser. He gives solid commentary on the objectives I found. A lot of the times, in the comments of videos people offer solid advice on a lot of missions that isn't obvious. Eg: Headshotting civilians for accuracy and headshots, visiting stores to get horse stim or other items. I had only 28 golds when I finished the game and did the rest in replay. It's more about route taking for timed objectives and being efficient with dead eye a lot of the time. Even the fighting missions became really easy when I realized you just counter punch almost all the time and those sequences become a cakewalk. Also this spreadsheet helped with some tips for me.

i recently got the golds done. it was a pain in the arse. all I can say to you guys is this.. stick with one gun. I chose the bolt action rifle, absolutely master it so u can aim up and get your headshot without even using deadeye.

the first chapter, only the train robbery mission is practically impossible on retries, the rest are doable. all of guarma is easy peasy golds all the way.

2 and 3 are mostly easy, but you need to be really dependant on one weapon, being comfortable is very important as allot of theese missions you need to be gettng 1 kill a second, every second until the fight ends. and it's easily doable when your a beast with one gun, i preferred lancaster repeater and bolt action, depending on range to me they both kinda felt the same as each other, the bolt action being a little slower and more precise.

getting trinkets doesn't carry into retries, and by the time u get the best 2 trinks in chapter 6 the missions get insanely difficult with tight time limits and stuff so using dead eye too much is instant fail. u need to be aiming, dead eye, kill as quickly as possible -1 second, and moving to the next.

chapter 4 is easy all the way through if you master one gun and tryhard every mission saving before hand. still the first mission, catching the urchin before he gets to market is just ridiculous.

chapter 6 starts easy progressively gets savage as fuck, epilogue 1 i blasted through as i already had it by chapter 6 ending, epilogue 2 looked hard but some easy ones. building the house was easy, just hold a the whole mission, and gold.

High and Low Finance doesn't count towards the 70 so don't waste your time attempting to get a Gold. You need the special edition for that mission so, don't worry about it.

This guide was generally accurate with it's difficulty, Blessed Are The Meek was one of the easier missions though.

I got all of my 70 before the last two missions in Chapter 6. 66 of my golds were on replays, I was able to use my horse, current equipment and stats that I had at the end when replaying.

If you are using cinematic camera to get through traveling faster be careful when you use it. I've had multiple missions where an AI, usually Charles would crash into a rock and kill their horse causing a mission fail. (My Last Son) I had to replay 5 times due to Charles.

Only Missions I couldn't get a gold on up to this point I'm going to list, and why.
Chap 1
Old Friends. Which is a huge waste of time and shouldn't be attempted. 12 tries.
Who the hell is Leviticus Cornwall? I fell off the train three times on replay and gave up.

Chap 2
An American Pastoral Scene, Micah's AI wastes time or will headshot the guard on shotgun. 10 tries.

Chap 3
The New South. I didn't attempt this on Replay, Looked far to long.
A Short Walk in a Pretty Town. I can't beat the time/ I get killed staying in the street to get the headshots needed.
Chap 4
Angelo Bronte, a man of Honor. Cop AI will spot me no matter how I attempt to leave the graveyard. 4 tries.

Chap 5
Paradise Mercifully Departed. No matter how fast I run I can't get the captain to the boat fast enough. 7 tries.

Chap 6
Visting Hours The Ride back to camp eats to much of my time. Abandoned after two tries.
Archeology for Beginners . Soldiers will stand up from campfire and stare at the relics for no reason, making stealth impossible. 3 tries.
The Bridge to Nowhere Controls don't function well for the train escape, I can't do this portion of the mission.

People shoulnt get scared and create a new save, getting this achievement replaying missions it's very doable. I only had 5 medals when i finished the game, and then I got all gold medals in chapter 1-4 expcepting 2 missions (the one you race against Dutch and the one of the giant caiman).

They were pretty easy, things become harder from guarma. After those just picked the easiest from the rest of the chapters. The key (for me) was using schofield revolver(if wasnt avaible just the pistol), I barely needed deadeye because it has a pretty fast aiming and precise, nearly same as varmint rifle.
About the horse I had some trouble, but not that hard once you learn how go fast without wasting stamina and its not required for many missions.

BTW. Aparently realoading a checkpoint counts as you're using healt items, dont know if it's a new bug or just for me...

Sorry for comment spam but I also have some advice to make this easier when playing through the game that you may want to include.

This may seem like it would break the pace of game play and seem tedious, but rather than going back and doing these all after you've beat the game, I HIGHLY recommend finding the requirements online, then beating them as you go. The reason for this is because when you replay a mission NOTHING YOU HAVE CARRIES OVER. If you're thinking "I'll get a jump on these when I have higher levels and better guns", you are going to make these actually harder for yourself. I attempted to replay a few missions and in fact had WORSE equipment than when I did them naturally. You are given basically the bare minimum of guns for that point in the game, a slow horse, and low levels. (This may be different for the later levels, but going back to beat Chapter 1 and 2 missions was a pain). Hope that helps

I actually have some to add to that. First off, if you use the save method, pretty much every mission in chapter 1-4 is relatively obtainable with some trial and error. I didn't start saving until Chapter 3, but I have every gold medal from chapter 3 and 4.

If you are going back to missions, I would advise against anything that has a tight time limit, with headshots, BEFORE you have rank 2 dead eye. If you don't have a time limit the headshots aren't too bad. The guide teaches you a technique called the "sharpshooter" technique. If you autolock with L Trigger, then slightly bump the R Stick up you should have a perfectly lined up headshot when you snap to them almost every time. It's tough to master but once you get it down you can easily pop headshots without dead eye.

Now, that all being said. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY advise against going for gold in ALMOST all of Chapter 5. Some missions aren't too difficult, but the vast majority of them are EXTREMELY difficult. This is because, without spoilers, you have extremely limited equipment to get these tight challenges. It is also very difficult to save before these missions because after the third mission of the chapter you are basically forced to complete the rest of the entire chapter in a row. You have to do 5 missions in a row no breaks.

That being said there are some really easy Chapter 5 Golds.

Here are the Chapter 5 Missions you should definitely just say screw it on and not waste your time:

Savagery Unleashed
Hell Hath No Fury
Paradise Mercifully Departed

The rest of Chapter 5 can either be saved before, or is very easy and you have relatively good odds even if you replay the mission. Just read the challenges beforehand and plan accordingly.

@count023 I think someone in another solution did manage to pull this off. It is possible but depending on how many medals you have left to get it really might be worth creating a save exclusively for this achievement - It 100% is saving me time, since my load-out is so OP. I have a full weapon wheel, lots of food items, lots of tonics, a race horse and I'm a high level in stats.
I might make a section in this solution for people who would rather do the replay option.

I just got the achievement. I got 52 medals from using mission replay. I would say that the decision on whether to start a new game for gold medals depends on how many golds you got on your run through the story. I finished the story with 18 golds. I got the remaining 52 golds through replays and it was damn tough. I would recommend starting a new game if you have fewer than 20 golds. Some missions are pretty much impossible to get gold on when replaying. I highly recommend saving before attempting these missions and getting them during your story run. A few examples are:

Pouring Forth Oil IV - Extremely difficult to get 10 dead eye kills with no dead eye tonics. Easy on first run as you can stock up on chewing tobacco and snake oil.

American Distillation - The horse race is almost impossible to win with the default horse you are given when replaying missions, With a fast horse, it's easy.

The Course of True Love – II - Same as above, it's too hard with the starting horse on mission replay.

The Joys of Civilization - Gold is impossible on replay as you have no stamina tonics.

Just a Social Call - I managed to get the gold from replay but it was very difficult. It is much easier with a shotgun. In mission replay you are forced to use a litchfield repeater and cattleman revolver. You can't change weapons when replaying this mission.

American Venom - Extremely difficult to Gold on replay as you have no dead eye tonics. You need tonics to have a chance at the 85% accuracy objective.

@LuckyConquerer2, I understand why you would downvote from that perspective, but this guide was my way of unlocking it, which isn't by using the replay option, so why would I write up a solution based on a method I didn't use? This guide is a single option that I found easy to use and knew others could follow. I wouldn't write up every single option someone can take- This is A solution.
I understand that some people did/would use the replay feature, but if you're already committed to using that method then why would you read my solution that's based on a different approach? There are lots of different paths you can take to getting the achievement and I fully support any alternative method, and advise you to write it up and upload that method. But I don't think any solution should be downvoted because it doesn't tell you every possible method you can choose.

Just my thoughts. I understand why you would feel like downvoting as there is no other solution available to read, but sadly I can't write up a solution I haven't done myself.
I appreciate your post, apologies for the solution not helping. Take it easy rock

I would like to shout a huge thank you to SkinnyBin for sharing his spreadsheet. It helped me a lot to decide which mission to try next and also to keep track of those that I already had done.

I took the liberty of doing my own version of his spreadsheet with different colors for each difficulty based on my experience on Replay Mode; achievement progress % and comments with tips for most of the missions that I tried/got gold. Unfortunately the comments are in Portuguese, not English, because I did it to help brazilian friends, but Google Translate can help those who are willing to read the comments.

If you are having any trouble with a couple of these, "the sheep and the goats" in chapter 2 and "urban pleasures" in chapter 4 were pretty easy on replay. For "the sheep and the goats", you can buy a bunch of chewing tobacco at the general store before buying the rifle with John. Also after the main fight is over, you can stick around and farm headshots if you did not get them all.

This list is a great guide and helped me so much. Replay is definitely doable!

These are really easy in replay. While on my horse in free roam I would equip the guns I liked most. When I would replay a mission almost 99% of the time I had my fully upgraded guns on me. My Arabian horse was also with me everytime. Just thought I would point that out since most people think when you replay missions you're just bare bones.

Another thing I would like to point out is that I did have the 100% completion and both animal achievements before I started going for gold medals. Not sure if it made a difference having my good guns during replay but I thought I would add that.

Few TIPS for those who missed the opportunity to complete this on the FIRST PLAYTHROUGH or don't want to spoil it by endless restarts.
*I've completed almost all missions (60+) after finishing the game.

My Gold Medals: https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/member/BLACKandBIG/game...
*Need to log in to see

My Settings:
Lock-On Mode: Wide
Aim Assist Strength: Maximum

TIPS

1) It sounds much harder than it actually is. I've never had any situation restarting a mission because of lack of Dead Eye or Stamina.
2) You can check objectives status by pressing Left (D-Pad), choosing mission and scrolling right. You also can Restart Checkpoint or Quit from there by holding X.
3) There are more than 70 "Easy" missions. I had ~ 5 more left after 70th.
4) You can't die or fail if the objectives are: Headshots, Accuracy, Time (Overall) or Using Health Items
5) If your Dead Eye ends, you can try looting Chewing Tobacco from enemies.
6) Always abuse Auto-Aim. Press LT and then flick RS a little bit up for headshots. If there are no Headshots required or you've already done them, shoot the bodies to increase your accuracy.
7) I think that Talisman Bonuses work in Replay, so they can make life a little bit easier
8) Upgrade and clean all your weapons as they are the same in Replay (not Always)
9) Sometimes missions that looks easy are much harder than hard looking ones
10) As you've already finished campaign, you know which missions were easy for you. Start this achevement by clearing from the Easiest ones.
11) If you stuck on a mission, search a video guide on YouTube.
12) If you need Tips for any mission that I've completed ask in comments. I'll try to help.
13) Good Luck! I've had much more restarts because of missing it

Will definitely vote this up, great tips! I will start on this achievement on a later date, can't get the motivation to start on this right now. I'm not the biggest fan of it :p

Thank you for pointing out number 4 on your list. I have tried looking this up but could never find anything. +1 for me.

When replaying a mission, there is no option to "Restart Mission" only "Restart Checkpoint," do you know if that voids any of the criteria? In other words, if I mess up something, can I restart the checkpoint or do I need to abandon the mission and reload it.

Also, my experience is that when you use snake oil ( to fill up your dead eye ) it also counts as health item taken? Many times I completed a mission without using health items FOR SURE! and it didn't count as completed wich frustrates me a lot. Did you had the same experience?

@chalon9 If there are objectives from my number 4, you should abandon mission, even if you failed in the beginning.

@Lassiedelikker Can't confirm that as I always use Chewing Tobacco. As I remember, Snake Oil doesn't restore health, mb you restarted from checkpoint and failed your objective?

I've seen videos where people get a popup that tells when they have achieved a requirement like 10 headshots so they can start just shooting for center mass to make things like 80% accuracy much easier but I don't get this popup or can I find the option for it. Is it an option in settings that I'm missing or something? It would really help having this

@Whiteout55 "2) You can check objectives status by pressing Left (D-Pad), choosing mission and scrolling right". I've never seen popups or options to enable them in game. I think it was video editing

how did you get the accuracy challenges to register in the first two chapter 1 missions? ive done both and basically never missed a shot (did one runthrough where i headshot _everyone_ at the Sadler Ranch) and it just doesn't unlock.

@count023 "4) You can't die or fail if the objectives are: Headshots, Accuracy, Time (Overall) or Using Health Items" or restart from checkpoint manually. I can't help more, if you sure that you don't miss your shots. Sorry:(

This is not really a guide but just some missions that that you can kinda "cheese" to help people trying to do this in replay. If anyone knows more let me know in the comments. Also, I would recommend checking out Platinum Chasers videos on YouTube if you need help on any mission. His guides really helped me out.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwV1Qvy2j4P8C0w8iV4kJ...

In the Chapter 2 mission "A Strange Kindness" go to Rhodes before Dewberry Creek. On the table to the right side of the Fence should be a thing of chewing tobacco you can take. Then go and loot Trelawny's house. Go back to the Fence and sell what you can. Then head to the general store in town and sell what you can. Buy however many deadeye and horse stamina tonics you can.

You can also kind of do the same in the Chapter 3 missions “Magicians for Sport” and “Advertising the New American Art II.” When you get to (or make a detour to) Trelawny's place, head directly over to the same table next to the Fence and there should be chewing tobacco to help you on top of the snake oil in the end table drawer inside Trelawny's home.

In the Chapter 2 mission “The Sheep and the Goats” after hitching my horse I went behind the sheriff's office, robbed the pig farmer and killed one pig (you can try for more but I did not want to risk alerting the law) hiding behind the shed. Brought its body to the butcher's and sold it, along with the meat I already apparently had on me. Then went inside the General Store and brought some chewing tobacco.

Also on this mission, search the saddlebags of the horse the herders were riding to check if they have any dead eye consumables. Finally, there is a loottable chest under an abandoned cart you ride by on the way back to Valentine that has some dead eye stuff.

Map of where above loottable chest is located:
External image

In the Chapter 3 mission “The New South” if you die while trying to knock out Anders Anderson without getting hit you can just retry the mission and start from right before the fight without any of the objectives being affected.

In the Chapter 3 mission “An Honest Mistake”, headshot the guy who walks into the barn for an easy one but then loot his body. He might have chewing tobacco on him which can be a big help. First time I tried this mission he did not, but he had some on my successful second attempt.

In the Chapter 4 mission “American Fathers II” after dealing with Danbury and leaving his office do not get involved in the gunfight. Instead just run to where Eagle Flies is waiting. This makes it so all you have to worry killing the horse back riders without missing a shot to keep within the 80% accuracy.

In the Chapter 6 mission “Delights of Van Horn” after the opening cutscene climb on top of the cart in front of you and then on to the awning of the house. Head into the open window. On your right is a bottle of snake oil on the cabinet, a health tonic inside. Then on your left from the window open all the drawers in that cabinet to find another snake oil and health item.

After the ambush in town (you have to get the 5 headshots in this section btw), do not get on the wagon. Go up the side stairs of the building to the right of the bar. Go through the door at the end of the hallway and head left for another snake oil tonic on top of a dresser.

In Epilogue - Part 1 during "Fatherhood, for Idiots" when you get more then halfway back to Pronghorn Ranch you can abandon the quest from the left d-pad menu. Then you start closer to the Ranch and it does not affect the time requirement.

My final gold medal breakdown by section to give an idea of which ones might be easier. I would say I did about 60-70% of the gold medals in replay. It might seem impossible at first, I thought the same. On Saturday, when I started going for this again I only had 43 gold medals. I then got 27 between then and Thursday night. You just have to get on a roll and nail down shooting without relying on Dead Eye as much.

To unlock the Gold Rush trophy in Red Dead Redemption 2 you will need to earn a Gold medal on 70 of the game's 104 missions which are split across 6 main story chapters and 2 epilogue chapters.

When you play through a mission for the first time, the Gold medal requirements won't be displayed, so unless you are extremely lucky you will inevitably have to replay quite a few missions once you have completed the game.

You can replay missions by pausing the game > Progress > Story and selecting the mission you wish to replay. To earn the Gold medal, you must complete all of the medal requirement in one playthrough of the mission. You can't, for example, do headshots in one playthrough and then replay again to complete the mission without losing health.

The Gold medal requirements for each of Red Dead Redemption 2's missions can be found below:

Chapter 1 Gold Medal Requirement:

Chapter 2 Gold Medal Requirement:

Chapter 3 Gold Medal Requirement:

Chapter 4 Gold Medal Requirement:

Chapter 5 Gold Medal Requirement:

Chapter 6 Gold Medal Requirement:

Epilogue - Part 1 Gold Medal Requirement:

Epilogue - Part 2 Gold Medal Requirement:

There is a total of 104 Gold Medals you can achieve. You can replay missions by going to => Progress => Story, there you can select any chapter you want and replay it. You can see what medal you previously got in the chapter by looking at the medal next to it. See below for some info by ilRASli:
Some information you need to know before starting:

- You can restart the last checkpoint or abandon the mission by going: => => hold , you will have the option to cancel the mission or restart the last checkpoint.

- You can track the challenges you complete during the mission by going: => => =>

- Don’t restart the last checkpoint on a mission with healing, accuracy, timing challenges, if you do, you will fail and you will have to replay the whole mission again.

- Dead Eye & Stamina tonics are not healing items and can be used.

As of the latest patch, your gear will carry over to mission replays, making them much easier than at launch of the game, and meaning you can play through the game normally without worrying about getting gold medals on the first run. You still have the choice whether to retry missions immediately after you complete them for the first time while they are still fresh in your mind or to work through them post story.
Unlike in GTA V you can't get the Gold Medal by replaying the mission multiple times and getting different objectives in each run. In this case you have to earn everything in the same playthrough. For missions that have objectives such as "Complete the mission in X", "Get X headshots", "Compete with X% accuracy", you can't fail the main objective or die because it will lock out the objectives. If this happens you have to leave to free roam and replay the mission from the pause menu again.

Under each story related trophy is a mission list with their difficulty rated from 1 to 5 based on different guides.

For more information on each mission you can check the following links:

- Spreadsheet with info on every mission: LINK. This spreadsheet has a list of every mission in the game, the objective for each mission and a few tips for some missions (credit: to Akrioz).

I went through it with a basic character, without tonics and with an unleveled horse, starting missions from progress.
Some tips for those who decide to receive the trophy in the same way:
1) Epilogue 1 is the biggest freebie.
2) Restarting from a checkpoint is considered a treatment, imposes penalties on accuracy and does not roll back the total time for completing the task.
3) If there are no conditions from point 2, then you can safely use control points. For example, the mission Archeology for Beginners
We find out where the camp is, restart from the checkpoint, pick up the relics on the nth attempt in 1:30 (but don’t get burned!), restart again, appear on a convenient side of the camp so as not to be noticed, return to the quest giver. - We get gold.
Or for example, “Fatherhood for the stupidest” from epilogue 1, where you need to get to the ranch in 30 seconds. If we realize that we don’t have time, then we restart from the checkpoint, and it will be almost at the ranch itself and in the end we will reach it in 5 seconds.
4) A check mark on the condition in the style: remain unnoticed or pass with accuracy xx% are fulfilled only with the end of the mission. So even after all the shootings, you shouldn’t shoot in the air, otherwise you’ll reduce your accuracy.
5) A playlist with a walkthrough for gold , but a pumped up character. However, it still helps.
You can view translations for missions here by setting the site settings to English.
6) If you feel like you want to shoot up your stupid partner who is slowing down at speedruns, then it’s better to put the gamepad aside for an hour. This is perhaps the most important advice. First of all, the game should bring pleasure, and if you approach the trophy in a good mood, then you will enjoy it.

PS
“-” means skipping the mission in this chapter
“+” - we go through exactly this mission in the chapter

Many missions are impossible to complete for Gold or are very long and difficult where it is easy to fail the conditions for obtaining gold in the mission

And yes, of course, this is not 100% information, perhaps some missions from the list will be difficult to take
I think that you still completed some missions in the game for gold besides the missions from my list, so you can skip some
But as a rule, these are the easiest missions

In missions where there is a point “take n-number of headshots” you cannot roll back to the checkpoint, headshots simply do not count, it’s easier to start the mission from the very beginning

I would like to summarize and add some details. At this time (December 2022), although I won’t say exactly at what point, the trophy has become much easier due to some changes. When replaying, the hero’s characteristics are not reset, they remain at the same level to which he was pumped, but:
- no bonuses from amulets and talismans,
- no equipment bonuses for tests,
- no large bags purchased.
Nevertheless, all tonics are present from the current progress, albeit in the quantities that the basic bag allowed.
It's almost the same story with a horse. Starting from task 2 of chapter 1, replays will include the mount that was available at the time of replay, with stamina/health/trust at the level to which they managed to increase. The only downside is the lack of unique saddles, which (probably) have already been purchased from the hunter.
All equipped weapons are also saved, you can call your horse and choose your favorite one. True, in the first chapter, due to the lack of magazines, there is no ammunition, but this situation is solved by switching the type of ammunition - on all weapons, basic ammunition immediately appears out of thin air in the amount that the character had before replaying.
Now about the repetitions themselves. If you want to run a checkpoint, you don’t need to die, click , select the current task and hold “Leave”, after which there will be a choice of repeating from CT and canceling the task. Also, if you failed one of the conditions and did not receive gold, and at the moment of returning to your current progress, you opened the task report to find out what exactly failed, do not press redo from this menu. Such a launch will be considered as the first playthrough and the task itself will not be displayed in the menu, which eliminates the possibility of restarting or exiting before the final completion and the absence of a list of requirements, respectively.
It is likely that the ammo and tonics used in replays are infinite and only have a limited amount in the current replay. I constantly used several pieces of chewing tobacco and after about 20 repeated missions in the current progress, their number remained unchanged.

There are 104 gold medals in total, you need to get 70.
Any mission after completion can be replayed from the main menu.

To receive gold, ALL conditions must be completed in one go.

During the first playthrough, the conditions for obtaining are not displayed; they can only be viewed later from the main menu when selecting a mission (Options - Progress - Plot - Chapter, press the square to display the list of tasks).

The necessary conditions are in the topic on the forum .

Before starting a mission, I recommend saving in a separate slot, completing the mission, and then rolling back to the old save and replaying, knowing all the conditions, since there are missions where you need to arrive at the desired point within a certain time, and for us a standard horse is a fatality, also with with a keen eye

After completing the mission and receiving a medal, you can hold down Options on the gamepad and see what conditions are needed for gold and immediately replay it.

Before accepting/starting any mission:
  • eat 1 piece of big game meat with ingredients. This will give you a boost to each stat for a day.
  • Drink the coolest tonic.
  • Inject the horse with harsh tranquilizers.
Read the mission conditions and try to complete them. If you clearly haven’t completed something before the end of the mission, just throw molotov at your feet and the choice “Replay” “Checkpoint” will appear. When you select "Replay" you start from the very beginning and everything is already upgraded.

I recommend not to suffer through particularly difficult missions; you can easily get 15-16 gold medals in the epilogue - the missions in it are very simple, even if you don’t complete it on the first try.

The trophy dropped to 73 medals! Maybe someone will be interested (this is just my guess)
As the game progressed, I always checked my results and the percentage of achievements completed in the social club.
Suddenly I complete the task and the achievement doesn’t drop, and in the social club it wasn’t noted that I completed this task at all (then I completed 2 more easy tasks for gold, but they weren’t displayed on the site either!
I realized something was wrong and decided to restart Sonya and log in again. Immediately everything was updated on the site, it showed that 98% was already completed (although it was already 72), I completed the next task for gold and was given an achievement!
And I decided to reboot the console because when I entered the game there was an update and I decided not to wait for the complete installation and went into the game (and usually with such actions the online is blocked and I thought the achievements were somehow tied to synchronization with the site) this, of course, could be complete nonsense that I wrote, unfortunately I can’t check this, but maybe it will help someone

If a mission has a requirement for accuracy, then keep in mind that in Dead Eye mode you are not credited with accuracy for hits or misses.

Since you don’t need to complete all 104 missions for gold (thanks to the rockstars), it makes sense to replay the simpler ones (there are missions with only one condition). Unfortunately, all tasks in the mission must be completed at once. That is, you cannot complete one task and then replay the mission by completing the remaining ones.

When galloping, I can advise pressing , the character will calm the horse, and periodically this action will give a small boost to your horse’s stamina. This will help when you need to get from A to B in a certain time

If a mission has a point on accuracy and “do not use items that restore health” and you die during this mission, start again. The fact is that if you start from a checkpoint, then these points will simply be lost and they will not be counted towards you.
Tested by me personally, he died in a mission with a point about healing, did not use it even once, but died and started from the checkpoint, in the end this point was not counted towards me.

I strongly recommend that you listen to the tips of the gentlemen who posted above!! Complete the mission the first time. I experienced grief in a mission with a German. There's one of the extras. conditions is to gallop from point “A” to point “B” in 1 minute 40 seconds. But I didn’t know that when you re-pass, everything is given as default. So, on this basic horse, with unpumped energy, you need to choose a super short horizontal distance between these very points and because of this the mission becomes a little less than impossible. I wasted 15 attempts for gold. I sat with a timer.

If the mission states not to use items that restore health, then you can easily use tonics to completely restore your dead eye and stamina. Some missions can be completed for gold even with a check point, but this is only if the mission is not entirely timed, and it does not require a keen eye, or it is not prohibited to use health restoration items (one of the striking examples is the Archeology mission for beginners ( if you want gold, it is even recommended to go from the checkpoint, as it becomes three times easier)). I got the trophy Toli at 69 or 70 gold. But I hardcoreed almost everything for gold, so I got the trophy another 65 percent of the main story. Those missions where you need to complete something for a while, and your fellow characters do not allow you to move quickly, you can use the jump, thereby saving precious seconds. Here are my vivid examples of such missions where the jump really saved. American Pastoral https://youtu.be/RC-s10zfB3k and Angelo Bronte a man of honor https://youtu.be/3m7R5iCzCng . This is a real life hack.

UPD#2 : very convenient during the mission (alas, only relevant when repeating) to check if you have made the conditions without waiting for the end of the mission and the coveted medal - click and select the current task, if there is a checkmark next to the condition, it means we have completed it, we finish the game until the end, if we missed something, load the desired save, repeat until victory
I’ll also add why it’s better to look at the mission conditions in advance.
Firstly, the conditions are not so simple in some missions, for example, they ask you not to take damage at all, and also to aim 10 headshots and maintain 70% accuracy, with tonics for a good eye this doesn’t seem to be difficult, BUT:
Secondly , when you replay a mission, Dead Eye will not be upgraded, you are given a standard horse, a standard weapon and you have little or no tonics.
So go for it the first time, almost all conditions do not contain spoilers.
UPD: Also, I would recommend saving before each task; if you see that you did not meet the conditions, then simply reboot and start again. Since starting from a checkpoint is counted as using a healer, and also does not reset the time counter and knocks down the accuracy indicator. This method is especially relevant for missions where there are conditions for time, accuracy, headshots in any combination.
In chapters 1-4 I didn’t look at the conditions, as a result you need to finish about 20 missions, which you could take simply by knowing what to do. I already read the conditions in chapters 5-6, now I can finish off a maximum of 1-2 missions.
